5.0 out of 5 stars Works with ESP32
Hooked it up to an ESP32 - works no problem! Yes, there was some reading and video watching I had to do to get the pins right (couldn't get it to work with ESP32-C6, but S2 worked perfectly! I probably had to spend a bit more time with the C6 - just was lazy). So, as far as display itself - crisp and works as expected from an E-Ink display.
5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly as advertised
Nothing unexpected, worked with my ESP32-WROOM-32D and platformio. When using the Eink library, use GxEPD2_420_GDEY042T81 as the eink driver. So the device initialization will look like this:// Pin Definitions for E-Ink Display#define EPD_CS 5#define EPD_DC 17#define EPD_RST 16#define EPD_BUSY 4GxEPD2_BW<GxEPD2_420_GDEY042T81, GxEPD2_420_GDEY042T81::HEIGHT> display(GxEPD2_420_GDEY042T81(EPD_CS, EPD_DC, EPD_RST, EPD_BUSY));
4.0 out of 5 stars Works as described
It works. Connecting the SPI interface with the supplied Dupont connectors requires care. One wrong pin and you could fry something. I triple checked everything. For people who can count above 2 this may not be a problem. Connected properly it works. Load up the Waveshare apis, use the right one and you're set.
5.0 out of 5 stars Working great with an ESP32
Came with a pigtail adapter so connecting the GPIO was super easy. Display is sharp and nicer than expected, refresh time feels faster than the other displays I read reviews on.
1.0 out of 5 stars A huge waste of time
Agree with others, these are awful. Highly unreliable, with even the default code only works part of the time. You really need to find a good combination of hardware to work with these, and they all seem to have a short life. I've been using these for years and stupidly kept buying new ones to either replace the failing old ones, or trying to get the new ones to work. I regret going do this rabbit hole. A huge waste of time, due to the limited options out there.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is truly low power
My current project when I Changed from 1602 to e-paper last two or more days on a charge.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bought 2 to make dynamic picture frames
These work great. I hooked them up to adrduino minis (3v) to create dynamic picture frames. Runs off of 2AA batteries. Picture frame updates every 3 minutes. So far both are still running on the original batteries (2 months).
2.0 out of 5 stars A massive time waster
Terrible, confusing documentation. Not even sure which Good Display panel this. They claim it uses a UC8196 driver but their source code use instructions that only appear UC8296 driver. Managed to get it working with B/W. Still cant figure out how to get grayscale. The documentation/source code on their website is like for multiple models and its hard to tell which model you have. Back of my board says its a REV v2.1 but when I look at the V2 source code its calling instructions which don't even exist in the driver IC. The V1 version works but doesn't have any grayscale. The source code is also bugged (out of bounds memory accesses), data lengths that dont match up with the driver documentation.Avoid unless you enjoy wasting your weekend trial and erroring.
Eink screen
Works well with Raspberry Pi Zero (1&2). Makes a neat little display to make map road book for trips.Partial screen update/refresh was surprisingly clean and quick.
Me encanta!!!
great screen, easy to use.
it came quickly, very safely packed and with instructions.the product itselfVERY Impressive screen. Super low power to update, an none at all to maintain the image :D (not as fast update as the little ones, but such a nice size for lots of info at longer updates.perfect for my weather display -it was easy to find examples for using it with the arduino ide (i had it going on a mega2560, esp8266 and i have it on the esp32, showing weather updates from the web, and my local sensors for a couple of months now without issues) - each with different libraries .
