They were smaller, most were blemished, etc, and my neighbors are fully stocked with tomatoes, so the only thing to do was sauce! This food mill performed flawlessly! It's a good quality, heavy grade piece, well constructed, easy to use, operate and clean, and it made short work of a lot of tomatoes. I am really happy I bought it!

Have always wanted a food mill and finally had a reason to buy one. Works well. A little awkward putting the disks in, and takes up a lot of cabinet space for something that will only be used seasonally, but no big deal.

Finally found a food mill under $50. Plus, this is the only one that I have found that is actually riveted and not just spot welded at the handle and the part that fits over the rim of the pot/bowl. Works great, too.

The media could not be loaded. I'm a beginner when it comes to canning and have never used a food mill before. I got this to make tomato sauce and I think it works great! It was easy to use and easy to clean. You can clean by hand or top rack of dishwasher.A lot of reviews said that it couldnt get all the pulp and liquid through or that seeds made it through, but I didnt have any problems. I did find that once almost everything was through if I did very slow hand cranks that more of what was left of the tomatoes would get under the blade and get the last bit through the screen. I did take all the seeds and skin and put them in cheese cloth just to see how much more liquid i could get out and i got 1/2 cup of liquid. I processed 15lbs of tomatoes.

Like some other reviewers, I've never used a food mill before, so I really don't have anything to compare this to. Still, I found this ExcelSteel mill to be surprisingly hefty and very well-made. I'm using it to process dozens and dozens of large, quartered/cook-softened Yaqui tomatoes (like Romas on steroids) into tomato juice for further processing to sauce or paste. I dump maybe a dozen quarters in at a time, start turning and this thing smashes-down those tomatoes very quickly. I've seen some complaints here about how the tomatoes (or whatever's being processed) build-up on the side and then needed to be scraped-down with a rubber spatula. I'm very puzzled. When my tomatoes built-up on the side, I just followed the instructions and counter-clockwised the turn a couple times and that automatically gathered the build-up and put it to the bottom ready for clockwise-turning. Takes maybe 30 seconds to process those 12 quarters. Absolutely smashes flat those tomatoes, yielding seed-free and skin free juice ready for saucing/pasting. Granted, if I could afford it, I'd probably get an electric mill, but for processing maybe 200 tomatoes (800 quarters) during just one short season per year, this is just fine.Minus one star because:1) I place this over an 11-inch pot to catch the juice. It is a bit unsteady. Instead of using the long handle to stabilize, I used the loop-handle side and span my large-ish hand over it to steady it.2) Took a while to get used to putting-in and then removing the turn-assembly to clear-out the skin/seed debris after each processing. And, processing 50 tomatoes (200 tomato quarters) would require doing that close to 20 during each morning juicing-session. It took some man-handling until I got used to it. I think someone with smaller/not-as-strong hands might find it difficult and frustrating.
