I remember in 1986 Roger Ebert said this was one of the best movies of the year. I like to think that it was one of the 25 best movies of the 80s. In later interviews John Lydon (rotten) said that much of the movie was not true. However, even fiction based on fact, this is a great movie. It is not for everyone. This film explores an underbelly of society that may offend some. I am 70 years old now and I just love this movie and I still listen to the Sex Pistols.

Such a great movie! I actually liked Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb much better than the actual Sid and Nancy- is that a good thing? If you have not seen this movie, it is a tragic love story about punk rock junkies circling the drain. Great soundtrack featuring Joe Strummer, the Circle Jerks, and the Pogues (sans Shane McGowan), and many others including some surprisingly well done songs sung by Gary Oldman himself. The way Alex Cox matched some of the cinematography to the music is absolutely haunting. I saw this at the theater when it first came out and I was blown away to see actors who actually looked the part instead of some totally normal guy or gal with alot of hairspray and fake hair color, which was the norm at the time. I think the movie glosses over alot of the ugliness of Sid and Nancy's relationship and being a junkie in general, and is off on a few things about the scene at that time, but its a movie, and as a movie, it is quite good!

If u love Sid Vicious, u will love this movie!! Gary Oldman, who plays Sid, is a brilliant actor and really does a great job in this movie. He has Sid down to a tee. The whole dark, drug addicted romance between Sid & Nancy is really shown beautifully in this movie. I think this is the best role Gary Oldman ever had. Chloe Webb, who plays Nancy is right on with Nancys attitude and her grating personality. I can't believe she didn't become a star. If u love the Sex Pistols, SidVicious, or drug related movies, this is a movie for you. Gary Oldman is so young, and hot in this movie. I just had to get that one in there. The soundtrack is awsome, Joe Strummer's "Love Kills" is just a killer song.

Man what a package deal! The picture and sound upgrade is amazing! I bought this to replace my laserdisc of it. I've bought a few non Criterion collection versions on DVD. They just didn't cut it. Either the picture was horrid or the sound was horrid. Spend a few extra bucks and spring for this edition. The Extras are great we'll worth watching. Usually with me, I don't buy movies for the extras but I had to check them out. People to watch for when watching just for fun. Slash, Courtney Love, and Siouixsie!

When I first noticed the DVD, I wasn't quite sure what I was in for. I'm the kind of person that judges a movie by its cover (I really shouldn't though). To me Gary Oldman didn't look anything like Sid Vicious, nor did the actress playing Nancy. But there was still a lot of hope, I love Gary Oldman as an actor today. I guess he was the one who kept me interested. Until I started the movie and was completely blown away by his performance as well as the actress who played Nancy. I couldn't believe Gary completely transformed into Sid, as well as playing "My Way" with his own voice! Me personally, I think it sounded better than the true Sid Vicious version of "My Way". ;)Though, I give it a 4/5 stars because I thought she could've been prettier and more enticing to look at. (I'm a jerk for saying that, I know.) I loved most of the romance scenes with the two of them. Its sincere and puts a smile to your face. The end of the movie depressed me, but was done brilliantly.For sure, this is worth buying and watching. I'm glad I found this out of randomly looking for music/indie movies, and will keep it in my Favorites collection. Thanks Gary Oldman, for proving your one of the best actors in the business. :)-Sophia

Great (but sad) tale of Sid Vicious life with Nancy Spungen !! A troublesome look into the life of a heroin addict that I saw in person at Maxx's in KC in 78 !! I actually met Sid for just a couple of moments !! It arrived on time, and in excellent condition. Should you be a fan of old school punk rock it's a must own 💯

Probably the benchmark of the punk rock movie genre is this beautifully lyrical love story of destruction. If you're reading this review, you probably don't need the plot spelled out for you, but for those who need it: Sid was the bassist for the original English punk band, the Sex Pistols, and Nancy was the groupie/girlfriend who sent him spiraling to self-destruction. The film is based on their true romance, and is a heartbreaking and aching portrayal of nihilism and narcissism.Gary Oldman, back when he was a lean and hungry actor at the top of his craft, puts in a stunning tour de force performance as doomed druggie Sid Vicious, while Courtney Love has a pre-fame bit part as groupie Gretchen (a precursor to her real later life with Kurt Cobain, as detailed in Nick Broomfield's "Kurt and Courtney").
