5.0 out of 5 stars Do you speak millimeters? Alexa does so these still work well.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } The price is so right on these! The only difficulty is that the needles are marked in mm and the smaller the needles are, the harder they are to read. I don't speak "mm" but easily found that Alexa is happy to tell me what mm size equates to the American needle size. It is to handy to have every size known to man at such a low price. I rarely use dp's except for the crowns of a hat, or for making bra inserts for cancer patients, so they last quite a while. Too many rounds and the 'points' of the needles become 'rounds' -- but they still are worth the cost.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Purchase
These are an absolutely amazing value.I sized many and they were correct. One person suggested getting small elastic band to keep sizes together. Brilliant idea thank you.I am currently knitting Christmas Stockings and am very happy with their feel in the hand and how well the yarn slips.I am sorry 5 stars was all I could give.
4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the buy
These are a lovely beginner set, and I'm excited to start using them. My only problems to note is the plastic packaging is fragile and when I unpacked the needles about 4 of the sets were already opened up and I dropped them everywhere. Also some of smaller sizes curve/aren't straight. This isn't a deal breaker to me because they conveniently fit the natural curvature of my hand when I'm holding them.To the seller: maybe rubber bands would be better or a plastic that's not so cheap. Even though the needles curving worked out for me, I wonder if they were warped from moisture during production.Hope this helps anyone reading!
5.0 out of 5 stars i think they are fine
I've only really used between 4.0mm-5.0mm needles, and they work. In use, they have bent in a similar fashion to the bent needles in the other reviews; I might include a photo of mine if I can edit this later. I might also try out the smaller gauges later to try knitting sock(s; if i have enough yarn) for fun to see if they are durable, but I anticipate that they will probably break since they are just (thin) sticks of wood. Definitely felt like an over-consumer this time considering I really only use like three sizes, and this came with like ten, so there are now individually wrapped bundles of bamboo sitting in my room somewhere, but at least it was cheap.Other than the gradual bending of the sticks, I haven't really noticed any negative features of the sticks. I mostly use acrylic yarn, so I've mostly attributed any horrifying sounds/friction with the fact that I use acrylic. These have helped me realize that I much prefer double pointed needles over circular needles, so these are probably fine for beginners since I am also one. I did knit a hat with these and it turned out really nice as well <3
5.0 out of 5 stars Great DPNs
These DPNs are very functional to knit with. The material is smooth and yarn slides easily but grips yarn better than metal DPNs. They are also much lighter than metal ones; therefore more comfortable to knit with. The ends are just right: not too pointy and not too round. The sizing is stamped on each needles for easy identification. So far, I have not encountered any rough or splintered spots. Since they are made of wood, the rough spots can be lightly sanded. The thinner sizes are obviously not as sturdy as the thicker ones. They need to be handled a bit more carefully because they can bend and break more easily. I've tested the 2.5mm needles, the smallest size. They seem fairly sturdy in comparison to other wood DPNs that I own.For the price and the craftsmanship, this DPN set is a great deal.
3.0 out of 5 stars missing one key size
Nice price, but does not include all sizes between 2.0 and 10.0 as implied in the description. Specifically missing size 8.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good set
Every needle has its size etched into it. Sturdy, looking forward to using them!
5.0 out of 5 stars Serviceable, good value
There are some very strange review criteria for this item. Sheerness for knitting needles is a silly concept, but durability is not an attribute to be graded. Let me see what I can do to help.First, the size 7 US, is stamped by metric, correctly as 4.5mm. Of the five, there was a splinter on one needle, but it was an easy, routine fix. I scraped it smooth with a fingernail to remove the bit, and the bit of cotton it pulled from my yarn. I then buffed it a little with a bit of wax paper I warmed in my hand. I then knit across my stitches over the direction of the grain, not against it. After that, I didn't notice what had been a defect.Second, these are simple and basic. It makes them great for knitting at the store, in the office, in your truck at the railway cross. The skill needed to use them would be at a minimum, an advanced beginner. Modern patterns use a rating of intermediate. For a child able to knit a scarf in garter stitch, these can be used. Skilled supervision will be needed for the child, but because learning to use double points requires skill building. If you trust the child to use a knife at the table, then double points are equally safe.Third, the ease of holding these double points. They are lighter than metal. They are not cold in your hands. The ability to hold and manipulate while working stitches can be a skill, but, the material used affects how easy that is. It grips cotton well, so it's great for dish cloths if you struggle and loose stitches with metal.Fourth, the needle tips. They are on the sharper end of pointy, but not to the extent of drawing blood in normal use. Stepping or sitting on them might be a problem. They are not the most blunt, which is nice, but they are not graded, so much as the 2.75mm do not have less of a tip than the 8mm. The 4.5mm is for reference. The length of the tip, and the sharpness remain proportionate among all sizes. The dish cloth seen in the pictures above is at 27 stitches each side, and I have to scrunch them together at bit so they stay on. If I was going to make it any bigger, I would transfer the work to a circular needle at this point. It isn't uncomfortable to work, but I am now adjusting my hold to continue. That means the work is the desired size, because these knitting needles are 8".
