5.0 out of 5 stars Durable, and effective. Easy to use and to clean
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I have owned several cleaners. This Triton replaced my second Hayward Tigershark. The Tigershark cleaned well, but the necessary maintenance of changing the internal drive belts is complex, and physically difficult. I began to explore alternatives. I decided to try a cleaner with external belts easy to access for periodic replacement, and without an overhead swing arm. I bought this Dolphin Triton. Pickup is good. Wall climb is good. Cleaning the filter is easy. Operation is simple. I edit this review in season 4 (2023), and on the whole, I am impressed. In the initial review several years ago I did not give this machine 5 stars because (1) Fine material pickup is disappointing. If sand or DE gets into your pool, the Triton will merely stir it. The Triton comes with two sets of filters, one set for fine substances, another for material such as leaves or evergreen needles. After numerous uses I find the fine filters to be ineffective. Ironically, the more often you clean them, the less effective they are, and (2) The impeller jams easily. If your Triton stalls after a few seconds of operation, it is likely that a twig or leaf is the problem. It is easy to access and clear the impeller, but it will jam.In August 2021, I added the Micro Pre-Filter Insert, Maytronics part 9983106, which cost about $60.00. It is a supplemental filter which sits inside the filters which come standard with the unit. I was seeking a solution to poor pickup of fine material. The addition of this supplemental filter greatly improved pickup of all material, to include leaves. In my opinion, if you own this machine, add the Micro Pre-Filter Insert.Early October 2023 update: Season 4 for this machine is ending. I now upgrade my review from 4 to 5 stars for overall performance, ease of maintenance, and durability.Early July 2024 update : Season 5. This machine has been operating at least once a day for a month. It is performing well. A belt slipped last season and I was able to easily reset it. External belts are an advantage of this design.Late June 2025 update : Season 6. This machine keeps on performing. I've cleared the jammed impeller only once this season, an easy 10 minute job. There was an intimidating quantity of organic material settled in the pool this spring, hemlock tree needles and heavy pollen gunk, and the water was opaque green. This cleaner has more than done its part. Again I emphasize that the Micro Pre- Filter insert is a good addition. When I spray the filters clean, the insert has gathered much fine material, which your sand or DE filter would otherwise have to contend with. When this Triton dies, I will buy another as much like it as Maytronics now manufactures.Early July 2025 update: Days after I posted the update above, the Triton died. It is almost as if I guessed it soon would. Suddenly it would travel a few feet, back up slightly, and cease motion. I ran the motor outside the unit ( easy to remove ) to confirm that the problem was the motor, and I tried various things, before ordering a new one, identical. I put the new one into the pool yesterday. It runs great - and at higher speed than the old one ran, which makes me think that the motor on the first one aged before it seized.
1.0 out of 5 stars DOA Triton, return & bad experience with BackyardPoolSuperstore, Amazon saves the day.
Received a DOA unit, the Triton PS Dolphin looks like a nice idea, the plastic, cable & materials are about the same quality as those of my old Dolphin which means they will endure sun and chlorine, albeit loose a little color over time, my last Dolphin worked for 6 years then the motor died and the cable started to have some issues. This new Triton has a larger basket and a convenient top filter load along with a handle that should help getting it out of the water, the bottom of the filter enclosure has a small piece of leather like matherial that should help preventing dirt from going back into the pool when pulling it out of the water, the filter compartment handle is a little stiff, the power supply is also smaller than the old ones and has some additional functions for scheduling the lights on it are much brighter, the Triton has side tracks which should be an improvement as other dolphin models can leave temporary black plastic marks on the gunite, but that's all I can review as my unit couldn't be used at all, it just didn't run .This unit was supposed to be New, but alas it was broken, which makes a person wonder...What is Maytronics QA process?, what about BackyardPoolSuperstore seller practices?.Clearly this was not our fault yet so far we are out of $181.24 + time, gas, energy, etc...(*UPDATE: Bolo saves the day in the end*)At the time of purchase Bolo's Page said NOTHING about a restocking fee, it read:'Price: $849.00 & FREE ReturnsPay $47.17/month for 18 months, interest-free with your Bolo Prime Rewards Visa CardThis item is returnable'If I click on Item is returnable it takes me to an Bolo policy which won't mention anything like that.So the store policy was hidden or didn't have clear access to it and because of this we were abused, if I knew the real policy I would have never ordered a $901 item from BackyardPoolSuperStoreSo...We requested a return the very same day and sent the unit back within less than 24 hours after receiving it,NO warning was given about an additional charge or other options if we continued with the return, how convenient for them.We carefully repackaged the item with every bag, manual, filter, protection, clean & resealed without damage, the return sticker was carefully placed not to mark the box, item was really unused since it just couldn't be used for it's purpose at all, unit will just not run.A few days later BackyardPoolSuperstore refunded $181.24 less than what we paid (including taxes). So for a DOA unit we got back only $719.81 out the of $901.05 that we paid and much dissapointment & trouble.BackyardPoolSuperStore says 'we believe in customer satisfaction'...blah..'making sure your experience with us is not only good, but the best!'...Well I am not satisfied at all, and this is closer to a worst experience for me, they do care about how to make some money from you however, with excesive charges and a one-sided policy IMO.They will try to justify this under an arguable hidden policy, I never saw it since the Bolo page won't mention it, sellers policy should be displayed clearly and the site & seller communications be more upfront about it, why not make it a part of the selling points or maybe a headline?.This unfair practice can inflict damages upon a customer which acts in good faith, their practices can leave you, the customer open to economic and/or moral loss. Please be warned, think before giving them business especially for high price items. Also Maytronics DOA?, really?, much dissapointed.Update...Bolo saves the day!.After all of this happened I was able to reach out Bolo and explain the situation, they got my back and started a process to refund the remaining balance, the total amount will be divided in smaller refunds but the important part is that they stood by the customer and that's why I really love Bolo and also why they are successful. Thanks Bolo!

Yes, a little expensive, but how much does it cost you to have a pool boy cleaning your pool? Even my mom at 80 can throw it in the pool, and take it out
