This Samsonite hand scale is portable but not as tiny as one may expect. It weighs 6oz. When the handle retracted and the hook folded to the back, it’s 5-inch in length. The black hand remains at reading position after load is removed, unless being reset manually to 12 o’clock position, a convenient feature for a mechanical scale. The reading is within half pound when compared to the other scale I have. I feel it is sturdier than the smaller digital hand scales sold on Bolo, and saves battery replacement. It also includes a built-in tape measure up to 1 meter or 40-inch max, which is a plus.

Samsonite is an excellent brand and this is a very inexpensive way to give yourself peace of mind while traveling with restrictions on size and weight of luggage. Works easily, the hanger hides away, and there’s even a tape measure built in. Can’t go wrong!

SAMSONITE MANUAL LUGGAGE SCALE, BLACK, ONE SIZE.I bought this for one purpose, to weigh my carry-on luggage. On my last international trip, I checked in at the gate and my carry-on luggage was 5 pounds overweight. I had to either check it or reduce the weight, but 5 pounds is a lot of weight to reduce from your luggage. Luckily, the gate agent didn’t re-weigh my carry-on before boarding so I lucked out.There are lots and lots of luggage scales on Bolo. Most are digital that require a button-size battery. I wanted to avoid one that needed a battery. In doing my research, I came upon a travel magazine article on different luggage scales and the Samsonite was rated one of the most accurate compared to similar priced digital scales.Although this is a very simple scale to use, using it right out of the package will result in an inaccurate reading. You have to set the two (red and black) arms to the 12 o'clock position by turning the black center knob in the middle of the face. The black arm will show the pounds. The red will show the ounces.After setting the two arms to 12 o'clock, I tested its accuracy by individually weighing 2.5-pound, 5-pound, and 10-pound dumbbell / barbell plates. The scale was very accurate.If you are going to buy a luggage scale, be certain to get one with a HOOK. The hook makes weighing luggage or anything similar so much easier.This is small and light enough to carry with you to the airport. I read a report that airport luggage scales can be very inaccurate and read OVER the actual weight. The SAMSONITE SCALE might help if this happens.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:This is probably the best luggage scale you could find on Bolo. It is entirely mechanical and calibrated by Samsonite, so it is very accurate. Being entirely mechanical means no fiddling with finicky electronics and batteries, something I abhor in modern products. It also comes with an extra measuring tape as well. The plastic construction does feel a little bit flimsy, but since you probably won't the luggage scale very often, it's more than good enough.

It's a great scale but much larger than it appears on the item page. Too big to take along on a trip but good for packing at home and no batteries to be dead when using.

Just checked 5 bags at United. The weight on the scale was spot on. We packed 48#s of a 50# limit and they went right on back.One point on weighing is to gradually come up with the weight and not come up hard.

Very convenient and the utility and use is very good
The measuring scale is very convenient and the use procedure is also.very good. With a extra hand which marks the weight ,so you don't have to keep the bag lifted and check the weight... loved it .. and great brand SAMSONITE.

Bought this because I dont want to get caught with electronic scales if the battery fails. Seems to work well as others have said it does seem to overweight by 1 kilo which is fine because you get a nice surprise at the airport when you thought you were over and you are actually under!
