Four stars for meeting all requirements. Doesn't _exceed_ expectations, so it doesn't get the fifth star.I admit it, I still consider Coke the best cola soda. (Coke is a citrus-cola phosphate, Pepsi is a vanilla-cola phosphate, in case you've wondered what the actual difference is.) But in recent years I've been drinking diet soda more often, and diluting the syrup more, and in that space I'm less picky about exact flavor. The SodaStream-brand syrup isn't _exciting_, but it's comparable to most store-brand colas and entirely acceptable, especially if a small splash of lemon juice is added.

SodaStream is my go-to for homemade soda—it’s super tasty, and the 4-pack makes it a good deal on price. I order it from Bolo because, let’s be real, shipping disasters happen, and they’re great about returns when something explodes. Shippers love to ignore the "this side up label" and its much easier to return on Bolo than with Soda Stream directly.When it arrives without incident, it’s perfect. When it doesn’t, well, I’m getting pretty good at cleaning up sticky syrup messes. Still worth it for how good this stuff tastes!

I love diet root beer and never encountered a brand I did not like until I tried the Sodastream diet root beer. It has a very strong mint taste that overpowers all the other root beer flavors. I am regretting buying a 4-pack of this flavor without trying it beforehand. Luckily I was able to alter the syrup to make it more palatable by adding imitation vanilla extract and sucralose sweetener. For one bottle of drink mix, I added approximately 3/4 cup of vanilla extract and 12 packets of sweetener. (And I’m sure I’ll try tweaking this recipe further.) I guess by diluting the root beer syrup with cheaper imitation vanilla extract I am reducing the cost per cup of root beer I make. But still I’d rather not have to bother.Also, as a side note for those looking to reduce costs, you can (carefully!!) refill your CO2 canisters with dry ice as a way to save money. I have to go out of my way to get dry ice from a farther grocery store, but it’s definitely worth the bother for the amount of money I save!

I purchased these as an alternate because the Pepsi brand syrup was crazy expensive.SOOO glad I did. The diet root beer tastes so good. Unlike the diet cola, this doesn't have a chemical smell. It smells and tastes like yummy root beer. YUM!If you are in the fence, give it a try! It's worth the buy.
