Spent to much on an axe that cant do the work. I finally took it out for comparison against the cold steel camp axe, the gransfors bruk Scandinavian axe, the hults bruk aneby axe. Turns out the akka is the best of the lot, they all are good and perform well, but akka is the lightest and performs like a large medium size axe, like the HB kisa my favorite axe before the Akka, the aneby cut through fastest with fewer strokes and is awsome but is heavy and when your 66 yrs old lighter is better and the akka cuts deep, is more accurate and less fatigue, very impressed, I used it again and it performed just like use, so my order of preference is 1. HB Akka, 2. HB Kisa, 3. Gransfors bruk hunters axe, 4. HB Aneby, 5. Gransfors bruk Scandinavian axe. I have council tool bushcraft axes as well and are excellent. But for size, portability, cutting ability, ease of use the Akka is the best, of course we're talking logs of 10 inches or less, I have my 3lb 36 inch council tool felling axe for the big stuff. Will say that the cold steel for the price and your not into tools will be the one for you, it performed as well a the gransfor bruk Scandinavian axe which is saying something. Hope my opinion helps.
5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Back Country Axe - Beautiful Tool to Add to your Kit!
I performed a lot of research to try to find a good backcountry multi-purpose axe for hunting, off-grid forestry, carving, etc. There are many contenders in this category, but Hults Bruk Akka Foresters Premium Outdoor Axe is just a little bit better and a little bit more in all categories. It's a few inches longer than most for longer swings and deeper cuts, has the curve to the handle for strike surety and shock absorption, and has the deep carving notch in the head for versatility and control while carving. The head is a little bit lighter, but that's the only drawback. So, I finally ordered it. In full transparency, I had to return the first one (100% Hassle-Free with Bolo Prime). There were clear quality control issues, including a warp in the axe head, which, for all you "Forged in Fire" fans out there, clearly indicated issues with the forging.Anyway, when the replacement arrived, it was like a whole different axe. Quality was supreme and the head was pin straight!!! I thought my eyes were playing tricks because the handle seemed thicker, smoother and the head was also thicker (there's a bad joke in there, but I'll leave that alone for now... :-)) so I weighed both. The replacement was 4 ounces heavier, definitely quality checked and beautiful! Tested and it split log-length firewood with one or two strikes, maximum, also razor sharp and carved amazingly. This is a Beautiful Axe to add to any backcountry kit!
5.0 out of 5 stars perfect axe
I love this axe. It's my second Hulks Bruk axe and while a little pricey they're so worth it. I have many other axes I've picked up around garage sales and flea markets but I use the heck out of this. I usually leave it in my truck since it's the perfect size to go under the back seats. I've used it for splitting smaller pieces of wood, mostly pine for camp fires, and it excels at limbing up branches. It's not great for felling because of the size and weight, but I've used it to fell some smaller trees and even one with around 12-14 inch dimeter just to see how it did and while it got the job done I don't recommend doing it hahaI love hiking and will usually bring this and a folding saw because not all the trails around where I live and maintained often and it's nice to be able to buck up smaller trees that fall across the trail. It's lightweight enough that I hardly notice it while hikingIt came shaving sharp and maintained it's edge very well. The build quality is exactly what you'd expect from a name like Hults Bruk, I can't recommend this axe enough
5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality
Very nice axe and sheath. Super sharp
4.0 out of 5 stars Not Perfect
Handle is extremely ruff and needs to be sanded and oiled right off the bat. Is that a big deal.? Absolutely not. But paying this price you would expect it to be finished. It's essentially an unfinished American Oak handle. Edge came highly polished and razor sharp. Very light weight to carry, yet handle is long enough to get good leverage. Handle is also straight as an arrow. Grain is not perfect, but not horrible either. Slight angle but passable for sure. Sheath is extremely nice as well. Over all it's a very beautiful high quality mid sized axe that is great for camping. Mine will live in my truck as part of my Truck load out.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice.
I've not had a chance to use this tool yet. I ordered to do some stock removal on green carving projects. Looking at the sales page I could tell the bit was slender, the head relatively small at just 1 pound and a half. The cutting edge is a little longer than I anticipated, it's also more slender than I thought it would be...and sharp. Literally hair popping sharp and polished to a mirror finish. My wetterlings axe didn't arrive with such nice fit and finish. This is a very nice, well put together axe. Seems a shame to swing such a work of art. Almost.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bushcraft axe perfection
I am incredibly impressed with this axe. Received it two weeks ago, have used it to feel about three dozen trees of varying size, built three lean-tos, chop firewood, and experimented with it for close-in work. It hits the sweet spot in every way: the handle length is the perfect compromise between two-handed use for felling jobs and one handed use for small limbing. The finger notch for carving not only allows tremendous dexterity, but it also allows you to hang the axe on any branch for a moment to keep it off the ground! The head shape is excellent, and the steel seems to hold an edge beautifully. This appears to be the perfect bushcraft axe for me - I know everyone has their own needs and way of using an axe. I'm delighted by the axe.
