5.0 out of 5 stars It’s worth what you paid
I did an “unscientific” study about the best guitars on the internet using Google and Yamaha won hands down. At first, I read all the reviews on Bolo and was convinced that I needed to pay over $1,000.00 and even up to $3,000.00 for a decent guitar marketed toward intermediate to semi-professional players. I’m neither but I’ve own three guitars and they were junk so I wanted to get a decent guitar (not a toy). So I had two guitars picked out in my Bolo cart, one was $1,500.00 and the other was much more than that. I then asked a professional guitarist that is an international player for over 30 years. He said you can’t buy a guitar through mail order. Price has nothing to do with how a guitar plays. He would not help me decide between the two I selected. I finally decided to do an unscientific study between Fender, Gibson, Martin, Yamaha, Taylor. I used professional websites that rank guitars such as Breakthrough Guitar and Acoustic Vibes Music (among others). I was not convinced and wanted an unbiased and unprofessional opinion so I did more research on reddit, Quora, and YouTube. I basically counted positive and negative opinions and Yamaha won hands down. I was shocked. The two guitars I had selected were Gibson and Taylor. Obviously I bought this guitar (Yamaha FG800). I then brought it to the professional guitar player. He thoroughly looked it over checking the neck, body, frets, strings, etc. and played it. His opinion “It’s a really nice guitar. It’s worth what you paid.”
5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper than a Taylor GS, mini, but so much nicer!
I have tried so many different guitars in my lifetime. I don’t normally think of Yamaha when I think of guitars, however after some severe issues with my Taylor guitars and hearing about them constantly denying warranty work from other YouTube videos; I decided to go with Martin and they played really nice but did not like temperature variations at all, like the Taylor, so for my situation, they did not work. So I thought I would try this one after it was highly recommended by Alamo music out of Texas. I’m glad I gave it a try. It plays as nice as my Taylor did without all the hassles of humidity, etc. stays in tune; looks way more expensive than it was and has a nicer tone, in my opinion, than the Taylor GS mini or my similar styled Martin. Highly recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar, But…
This is a very good guitar for the money, but part of the information in the description is dead wrong! It does NOT have a “Rosewood Fingerboard & Bridge” Both are walnut! Everything else is correct.Because of the interior space needed for the electronics, the guitar does not project well when playing acoustically. This is normal for an A/E and is fine for practice or writing, but not for performance, which is where the electronics come into play, pun intended. DO NOT buy this guitar if you’re looking for an acoustic guitar primarily. Other than this and the fact that there is no guitar strap button for the front, which has become standard on acoustic guitars for some ridiculous reason - even a $5,000 Martin doesn’t have one! I had one added by my luthier when he did the setup - but remember that this will also void the lifetime warranty.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great warm sound for the price
Sounds warm and rich and has volume. Love the sound. Other beginner/intermediate guitars are too bright & tinny and lack volume. I'm not a pro with a pro ear, but prefer the sound of this guitar. It is kind of big for a small person to play tho. I found the action to be "normal", not too high or too low & buzzing. I did change the strings to extra light 10-47 Elixir as original strings were killing my fingers as I was new to playing. Like the neck shape & finish too, easy to grip/reach around with smaller hands and hand slides down it easy. Definitely would recommend.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice guitar Worth to buy
The most favorite items in the dormitory, every day there is time to pick up and practice. It's one of the great self-improvement instruments.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful guitar
For it's price, that was a bargain. Works great, looks beautiful, great sound, materials are first class missing some accessories.
5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Stellar
It sounds good. It plays well. Beginner guitar? Been playing for decades and I like the sound I get out of this.
Nice Guitar
I decided one day to teach myself guitar. I bought this guitar and I really like it. Nice sound. The body is smaller. It is so much easier to hold and learn cords.
Love It
So says tuned
Amazing guitar.
Built is good. Strings needs to be changed. And setup the string height and you are good to rock.
Well worth the money.
It has a slightly smaller body which makes it so much easier for me to play than a dreadnought and it just sounds so good. This particular Yamaha is now my favorite acoustic guitar. It is made in china but is of high quality as befitting Yamaha guitars. And it will only sound better as it gets older.
Not just for beginners
I would say that even pros can use this guitar for writing and performing. Easy to play, sounds great plugged in or not. Well built. Excellent value for the money.
