Get superior guitar tone in a small package using this 5-Watt 1x8 Guitar Combo Tube Amplifier with Celestion Speaker from Monoprice! As the title indicates, this guitar amplifier features a 5-watt tube power amplifier and a Celestion brand speaker. It uses a ECC83/12AX7 preamplification tube and a 6V6GT power tube for the amplifier section, plus a Celestion Super 8 GBA-15 speaker. The amplifier handles frequencies between 80Hz and 10kHz, with hum and noise -75dB below the rated power and 0.5% total harmonic distortion. It includes a Low input and a High input, with the former attenuating the signal by approximately 50% and the latter being easier to overdrive. 5.0 out of 5 stars What a smokin' deal!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I had been sitting on the fence about this amp for nearly 8 months now, reading every review, both positive and negative, humming and hawing, looking at the Fender 57' Champ, back and forth...well I pulled the trigger! Thanks to the review that mentioned missing out on this little guy would be a tragedy.Arrived within 24hrs. No dents in the boxes was well packaged protected within a box-in-a-box with 1" foam corners. It's super sturdy, heavy (top heavy), and built well. Same model/build as pictured. Power cable is indeed attached, and has a velcro strap attached to the inside to keep the plug cable wrapped up. 2 tubes, open back, w/ a heat vent thingie that looks cool. Overall it is really vintage looking IMO.Compared to my Fender Mustang 1v2, this thing is better-built hands down. Has chrome hardware and rubber feet. Tolex is a light cream and well applied. I see no flaws in the tolex application. There was some stringy glue inside the back of the amp, that just pulled off the inside/front. Looks like it was leftover from the inside is not bare wood, but has a black tolex-like material applied to the speaker front and sides/back which was a surprise. I expected bare MDF board inside...nope. Attention to detail IMO. The handle feels weird but looks good and vintage. The instruction booklet is good and explains how to use the tube amp. Read it! Plugin guitars BEFORE turning it on, and allow to warm up for 10-15min. I did all this and so far no major meltdowns. It sounds really, really clean on the 1w setting with no gain. Love it! I can adjust my guitar via the volume/tone/switch now. Never seemed like they did much thru my solid-state, but so with the tube. Pretty amazeballs IMO. Love the 1w setting for practice and getting the tone dialed in. So much fun and warmer than my solid-state hands down.In 5w this thing gets LOUD! I noticed the tone control can introduce some hum, but nothing freakishly annoying, but at that 5w say set at 5 volume, this amp is too loud for my apartment building (I live in SF). Would be interesting to try an 8ohm speaker out, which may be my next project.Overall I think this thing is pretty awesome. Like anything on the internet folks got lots of opinions, but I would not hesitate to jump on one of these cool tube amps before they are gone. I got the extended warranty for $20 for 3 years thru Asurion. $151.86 for a tube amp with this build quality? Insane. Sure if you are a gear snob, pay 10x the price for a Fender Champ 57' but my bet is it wouldn't be 10x better, maybe 2x? I dunno. If you have never used a tube amp, I highly recommend giving this a shot.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love this little 5 watt gem!
Watched many reviews for this amp against similar amps, with and without pedals. This thing always held its own against higher priced units. For $190 its a wonderful value. Mine came in flawless condition. I powered it up to ensure it worked. It does. I wasn't supposed to get this amp till Friday so got it quick. Thanks to Bolo for their excellent service in all ways. Can't wait to break this amp in and use it to play with friends. Also, this amp has all the allure of the creations from the early years of amp design which are hard to find and expensive. This thing is new but not covered in some blah covering. It also has an attenuation button to reduce the overall volume. Sweet. You have a volume, tone, off and on switch and the attenuation button. So far I'm loving it. Highly recommend. Again, thank you Bolo for your continued excellent performance. Forgot it also has an external cabinet output. Get one!!!
4.0 out of 5 stars Oddly, my favorite amp
I paid Bolo $99 for this amp. Now it's $199. So I took off a star.I can only take off one star though, because I really love this amp. I'm not sure I'd pay $200 for one if I didn't have one, but I definitely would keep mine even if you offered me $200 for it. I love it so much. It's perfectly small. I can carry this amp in one hand and my guitar case in another and walk miles if I need to or go up stairs. I can literally hold my guitar case and this amp with the same hand (it's tricky), and have another free hand for some more gear.It "does the thing" you want a little tube amp to do. It's not going to "get the sound" if you compare it to bigger more complicated amps, but it can definitely "get the feeling" in every case, if you know how to use it.It's very well built, very sturdy. The 5w-1w button is actually really helpful, just reduces volume without changing the tone much. I looked at the circuit and I can't figure out how that button does such a good job, it's stupid simple.I love this amp with my heart, and if I'm honest, I love playing it no less than my vintage 5w amp. In some ways, I love it more.
5.0 out of 5 stars Super impressed
Fantastic little amp! I play mostly older stuff like ‘50’s Johnny Cash. This has that sound, great tone straight but add a little reverb & delay and I couldn’t ask for anything more. Super impressed. I also have the 15 wattt version which is also mighty fine but I like the tone of the 5 watt better. 🤠
Fantástico amplificador de válvulas
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Es lo mejor qué hay.
Great little amp
I've had this for three days now, and it's been given a pretty good workout by both me and my son. I play a 335 copy through it, he plays a homemade Tele. First impressions: it's loud, it sounds good, it appears to be well built. It came well packaged in a double box. Outer box had a rip, inner box was fine, amp was unscathed. It doesn't get any simpler than this - a volume and a tone control, and a 1w/5w switch. Controls are good looking white chicken heads with a black pinstripe on them. Red jewel power light looks good. Not a fan of the mirror finish on the control panel. Everything is put together well, the amp covering is kind of a gatorskin sort of texture, fit well, metal corner caps are solid. The handle feels plasticky. The volume and tone controls turn a little too freely for my liking, feel cheap. But there's no crackle or noise when you adjust them. The amp starts to break up nicely when the volume gets around 2 o'clock. It takes pedals well (overdrive and reverb). It has a really good tone, sounds beautiful clean, sounds nasty cranked and with an overdrive pedal added in front. Gets great classic rock tones at reasonable volumes - I don't think there's any way to reproduce Malcolm Young's tone short of a Gretsch double jet and cranked Marshall stack, but this does a very good approximation and won't tick off the neighbours.I run it most often in 1w mode, which sounds like it cuts about 1/3 of the volume from 5w mode, but keeps the same tone. Very useful. There is an extension speaker jack on the back, I've yet to try it.The only criticisms I would have of it are a few things it doesn't have - a headphone out, mp3 input, and reverb would be awesome. Not to knock the amp per se - it's a very basic thing, no bells or whistles, and it fulfils its basic purpose well.Overall, this is an impressive little amp. Dirt cheap, but nicely finished, and with a killer sound.
Good value
Very happy with this amp for the price I paid. It works really well for the 60's style of music I play. For nice full sounding cleans, turn the amp volume up to three quarters aka 3 o'clock (I use the 1 watt setting) and then use the volume on the guitar to bring it down to a manageable level.Since guitar amps can sound a little flat without the help of pedals, I highly recommend using a reverb pedal. An overdrive pedal wouldn't hurt either, since there isn't a lot of natural breakup available at lower volume levels. When I first received this I was probably thinking something along the lines of "sounds pretty good, but is this all it does?". However, over time I've come to really appreciate this little amp. I also own two other small tube amps that I really like (a Vox AC4-TV and a Bugera V5 Infinium) but to my surprise I usually choose the Stage Right over the others. Especially when playing a guitar with single coils or P90s.This amp delivers pure, honest, and clean tube tones and after a year and 4 months I'm still very pleased with how it sounds (but it really does need that reverb pedal to help bring it to life).Bonus pedal tip: To change things up you can use an EQ pedal to scoop out the mids and get some nice Fender-like cleans with this amp.
Bien.
Good simple, no-frills tube amp
Got this amp to get a simple tube platform for an apartment setup to keep the volume down. Sounded decent right out of the box. I've read this or that about comparisons to champ, laney cub, etc. Whatever, sounds good enough for the price to me. Build quality seems on par with other budget amps. Flimsy PCB mounted tube sockets and whatnot, but hey that's what you get in a Blues Jr. Enclosure is some kinda wood composite though, and the slab on the back that covers the tubes is almost like thick cardboard, so don't know how well that will hold up over time. Good amps should last decades, not sure this one will make that benchmark. The tubes absolutely suck, but I figured that would be the case. The output tube failed on me probably 4-5 hours into use. I replaced both tubes with JJs, problem solved. If your amp stops making sound all of a sudden, you probably just blew a tube. All in all, if you don't care about boutique amps, vintage gear or stuff made in China and just want a super cheap basic tube amp for practice or light recording, I can recommend this. But you'll probably have to swap the tubes sooner than later.
