My son started showing interest in playing music, and we wanted to get him something that was a step up from the more 'kiddie' one he had.This keyboard is light weight and easy to use. I wanted a portable keyboard to practice my chorus pieces, so I can practice wherever I want in the house. I already have a full piano keyboard--this is just for learning my part, dueting with another part, staying on key, etc. It's perfect for my needs. It has a more robust piano sound than I expected (I don't use its other instrument sounds, pre-programmed songs or rhythms). It has outlets for headphones and for a DC 9.5V adapter, which doesn't come with the keyboard. I think I'll get an adapter, because I don't know how long the 6 AA batteries last. (The keyboard does turn itself off after 5 minutes or so of disuse, which helps battery life.)This keyboard is not ideal for actually learning piano, because it has just 2 1/2 octaves, and there's no music stand. Maybe okay for kids learning by ear--it's certainly much more than a toy. I'm happy to say that even though the keys are smaller than on a normal piano, they are not too small for me--an average woman--but they might be too small for a man with large handsI am withholding one star because the keyboard REALLY could use a carrying case!

I got this as a birthday gift for my 8 year old son and he loves it. He has been using it for about 3 months now and he's still enjoying it a lot. It's light weight and compact, he carries it around everywhere he goes. The cable had to be ordered separately and is a good idea to purchase.
