Excellent Primer for Furniture Restoration – Smooth Finish and Easy Application
I recently used the Rust-Oleum Corporation 271009 Advanced Synthetic Shellac Primer to restore several pieces of wood furniture, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The primer applied smoothly, providing excellent coverage and effectively sealing the surfaces. It dried quickly, which allowed me to proceed with painting sooner than expected.One of the standout features is its low odor, making it comfortable to use indoors. Cleanup was a breeze with just soap and water, saving me time and effort. The primer adhered well to various surfaces, including MDF and previously finished wood, creating a solid base for the topcoat.Overall, this product exceeded my expectations and made the restoration process much more manageable. This is the stuff you want.
This stuff is great for sealing MDF and other porous composite building materials on things like cabinets to keep moisture from making it swell up. I recommend 2 coats for seamless coverage, whether brushing or rolling it on. I don't recommend spraying because the clean up of a shellac paint in a spray gun is a bit problematic in my opinion, but if you are ok with that cleanup process then go for it. BIN primer is my go-to first step because it is high quality, easy to apply, a great value, and works every time.
Works wonders
This primer is the best! I've used other primers in the past that did not cover water stains or knots. Used this right over the old stained paint, repainted and voila! Stain free. Perfect!
Best primer I have used
After using Kilz for a stained piece of trim wood, the stain resurfaced in short order. I heard about this BIN primer and tried it. It covered the old stain and hasn't reappeared at all. Very happy with the results. Barely any odor to the primer and it went on smoothly and dried quickly.
DIY Must Have
I recently purchased a new house and at 59 caught the DIY bug, so I have been tackling projects around the house. With contractor costs so high, learning from YouTube and doing it myself is both rewarding and cost effective. This product worked exactly as expected, was reasonably priced, and became an essential part of my DIY process. Highly recommend.

I had an issue with the product and the seller made it right. TYThe product is good. Pro-tip: Use a chip brush for application, this stuff is thick.

This is the best! My husband and I are painting all of the trim in our house and this shellac primer has been heaven sent! We don’t have to sand everything down which I am SO thankful for. We flipped houses in the past and used other products, but nothing holds up like this. It’s very watery but you have to remember, it’s to help the paint adhere to the surface, not for coverage. We tried the quart size and have since bought multiple gallons of it.
