Phoenix Systems (2104-B) V-5 Reverse Brake Bleeder, Light Duty One Person, Fits all makes and models

Description:

  • Patented Reverse Bleeding removes more trapped air than any other brake bleeder by simply pushing Brake Fluid fluid from the bottom up.
  • Reverse bleeding is the only method capable of bleeding tough ABS units without a scan tool.
  • Allows you to refill and bleed a completely dry brake or clutch system. Perform Reverse, Vacuum, Pressure and Bench bleeding all with the same tool.
  • The V-5 is considered a Light Duty tool for intermittent use. Compatible with DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluid. (most vehicles use DOT 3 or 4).
  • Is the easiest one-person bleeder you will ever use. No more asking your family or friends to help you finish a brake job.

  • If you do mechanic work, you probably already know something about bleeding brakes. And one thing you’ve definitely learned over the years is that brake bleeding can be a cumbersome and time-consuming process – particularly for certain vehicles and especially for ABS. Which is why you may be surprised to find out there’s a tool that can make bleeding brakes fast and easy – and oh, we should also mention: extremely simple. It’s called the Phoenix V-5 Light Duty DIY Reverse Brake Bleeder, and we’re certain it’ll change the way you think about brake bleeding. With the Phoenix V-5, one man can bleed the brakes on any vehicle in 10 minutes or less – even if it’s a tough ABS job (you won’t need a scan tool or special clips). Tip: Our Patented Reverse Bleed Technology is what makes this tool so unique. The Phoenix V-5 Reverse Brake Bleeder is a revolutionary tool based on an incredibly obvious concept: Air wants to go up. That’s it. Traditional brake bleeding tools and techniques fight this principle. At Phoenix, we harness it, so you can quickly remove all the air from the whole braking system. Reverse bleeding: It’s an idea so simply and obviously right that most people ask, Why didn’t anyone think of that before?

Bled a clutch in about 3 minutes. No mess, no issues. I did put Teflon tape on the bleeder screw and there were absolutely no issues. Just follow the instructions. Used minimal fluid and NO MESS!!! If you’re on the fence about this, just do it. The only thing disappointing is how long I waited to actually buy this thing.

I used it on a 2017 nissan sentra. Works good if you are by yourself. No need for an extra person. Yes it does leak some at the bleeder valve while pumping. Yes you want to hold the hose while pumping fluid. Overall for the price it worked great and got me out of a bind. I definitely recommend it. The little spilled fluid to clean up was a mild inconvenience

4.0 out of 5 stars Easier than having someone pumping the brake pedal.

My Subaru needed new calipers. It's not that hard a job, but whenever you have to break open a sealed system, you are asking for trouble. Anticipating trouble, I purchased this tool. The concept is pretty good: instead of forcing the air in the direction it doesn't want to go, you push it the other way: Up. My only complaint was that as the system got close to being air-free, pumping the tool got a lot harder. I also had the hose pop off of the bleeder once, and so had to hang on to that as well as the tool to do the job. Those are relatively minor difficulties, though and I am pretty sure more practice would solve them. The tool comes with everything you will need, including a nice brake fluid resistant poster of the instructions to hang on the wall. Quality of the tool is pretty good, I was unable to break it while in use and it works as advertised. Was certainly WAY easier than having another person in the car pumping the brake pedal. It's not the most expensive or highest quality tool for this purpose, but if you only need it now and then, it's a good value.

I bought this for bleeding a system that had run dry and had air in the abs so a fair bit of bleeding was needed: bleed, cycle abs, then bleed again. This tool is a great idea and actually exceeded my expectations at first. First caliper was a breeze, only took a few moments. However, by the time I got to the 4th caliper on round 1 the plunger on the tool was starting to bind up pretty bad- it wouldn't cycle in its own so I had to pull it back manually every time, sometimes with considerable difficulty. Shortly after that started, the boot that fits over the bleeder screw started popping off every time and spraying fluid everywhere unless I held it on with one hand and worked the pump with the other (the kit includes 2 different sized boots, I used the smaller one). Starting to get pretty awkward here.....After cycling the abs pump I started on the second round of bleeding. By the second caliper the plunger was getting very difficult to pull back manually and I was so focused on that that I didn't immediately notice that the tool started pulling air in through the discharge fitting and was injecting it into my brakes along with the fluid. The fitting was tightened securely but it was still letting air in. Great. At this point I gave up on the tool and got some speed bleeders at NAPA and re-bled the system thanks to the air the tool had injected, wish I had just done this in the first place. The most likely explanation I can figure is that the materials used in the tool (which is rather cheaply made) are not compatible with brake fluid. It's hard to believe, but it's the only way I can think of to explain my experience. The plunger clearly was binding up because of swollen seals, and the bleeder screw boot started popping off because the material swelled and loosened up considerably-it was very difficult to put on at first, would barely stay on by the time I gave up. I'm dumbfounded that one would make a brake bleeder that was incompatible with brake fluid, but there you have it....It's a real shame that a great idea here was ruined by shoddy construction.

So, I was very excited to receive this bleeder. Like a kid at Christmas. Finally, it arrived. I didn't read the review that warned to keep your hand on fitting. As I pumped, the fitting popped off and nearly gave me an eye full of brake fluid. They should include a notice to keep your hand on the fitting in the instructions.Next, I hold the fitting on bleeder and start pumping my little heart out. And I'm thinking, "wow, I'm going to have some really strong brakes". As I look a little closer after a few minutes of pumping, I discover the brake fluid is not going in the line but is spilling around the fitting and onto the back of the back plate. WOW!Finally, I achieve a measure of success with the small yellow fitting that inserts into the brake fitting. By now I've learned to apply pressure to the fitting as I am bleeding. Low and behold, the yellow fitting starts to disintegrate from the pressure I'm using to keep it from popping out. It was good for bleeding one brake.Since the system works by pumping fluid into the brake line my hand starts to hurt from the pressure of trying to squeeze the fluid through the line to the master cylinder. I mean it's really hurting, and I still have three lines to bleed. The next line bled a little better, but I had to revert back to the black fitting due to the yellow one being a crumpled mess.Mind you I had drained the master cylinder prior to bleeding the brakes.I finished the driver's side rear and rushed to the master cylinder hoping I had left enough fluid in it where no air was able to enter. Luckily there was fluid in the cylinder.....There is a God!! ...I quickly refilled the front cylinder of the master and decided to call it a day.My brakes were stronger at the end of this process, but it was a lot of work. When I have some time, I may try bleeding the front. Also, I was using this bleeder on manual drum brakes bleeding through the wheel cylinder.Wonder if I can order those little yellow fittings separately? They should include at least 10 in the package.A remider....Keep your hand on the fitting as you pump. It's the only way to keep it from popping off. There's just too much pressure trying bleed through the brake lines as opposed to using the vacuum method.

Didn’t fully solve the problem but did help to get some air out to improve spongy brake pedal

    r. · June 6, 2024

Bought this as a last resort & did indeed help to release some trapped air in the ABS pump back to the brake fluid reservoir on Ford Mondeo MK3 ST TDCi 2006 - however the spongy brake issue is still on going but as stated the car does stop but needs improving so will have another go in due course , it’s just micro bubbles somewhere in the system trapped but hopefully will either work themselves out of the ABS pump back up to the reservoir or to the brake bleed nipple(s) & would recommend this tool as at least got us kind of out of a bad situation from no brakes at all to a spongy brake pedal that does stop the car .

    Great product

Great product. Not available at local part stores in Canada. I used the reverse bleed function it was a life saver. and was able to inject brake fluid from the rear brake drum back to the master cylinder. I tried vacuum bleeding with another product but could not draw fluid back with 25 psi. The rear brake line rusted out and failed this is why I had to do this job. I saw other reviews and was concerned about the plastic construction so I handled it with care. The tube end fittings twisted on and locked well. I inserted the brake fluid slowly to ensure the fluid was going in and i took care of the plastic device . Also the back rubber fitting that fits on the bleed screw fit sung on two size fittings i used it on and it did not leak at all. I had one issue which I think was my fault. The spring mechanism near the nozzle loosened off internally and would not go back in. Fortunately I was able to unscrew the main clear tube and insert the spring with the valve attached. This happened after I injected brake fluid and then closed the bleeder screw and then tried to fill the main clear tube with new oil. I realized you do not have to close the bleeder screw after each fill and only close it once the job is complete. After this i sued it again and it worked perfectly fine. I was able to easily reverse bleed my master cylinder This product saved me so much time and is truly amazing
