5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely well constructed - It's exactly what you think it is.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } All metal construction, very beefy. Fits 4" ducting perfectly. I only have a 5 ft run of duct and then it's outside, so I used this on my gas dryer to catch the extra lint from going outside, without the secondary vent fan that it usually goes with. It vents under my porch, and otherwise I end up cleaning up the lint outside from time to time (gotta be a better way!). Until this came along! I was skeptical at first, because the mesh screen doesn't seem any finer than the built-in one inside the dryer, but after almost a month of use, I have not seen any lint outside. You probably don't have to clean it every time like the product says, but it would be good to get in that habit. The only knock on this product is that you WILL have to seal some of the cracks around the door yourself (if you have a gas dryer). Since it's all metal contruction, there are small cracks in some spots where air can leak into your house (only dangerous with the fumes from a gas dryer). I just used some aluminum foil tape anywhere that air was leaking, same stuff you use to tape around the ductwork. Then I used some door/window weatherstripping around the door of this lint catcher, and now itt's completely sealed up, and works like a charm. The door fits very snugly (as you'd want it to)- there is a small lip that prevents the door from coming out unless you want it to.All in all, extremely satisfying purchase. I think the best part is, this is so sturdy, that if something needed to be fixed on it, and you were somewhat handy, you could do it. Screen replacement is all I can think of right now, but you know what I mean. It's not some cheap plastic piece of crap that once it's broke, it's broke. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.
5.0 out of 5 stars I appreciate and am amazed at what I find after my dryer had filtered ...
Wow. Although you must have skills to install, I appreciate and am amazed at what I find after my dryer had filtered what it can. My DIY husband is the mastermind installer and has the following tips:This is a very well built unit, nicely constructed with a solid feel. Luckily for me I had access from behind the dryer through the garage wall so could cut a larger hole in without having to patch in the laundry room- I cannot imagine trying to get this installed into the main wall and making the fitting work without access from the back- there will be a ton of drywall patching to follow. If you're good with drywall then go for it, but for most DIY'ers it will be a chore. The main box has to line up exactly to the exhaust pipe so if your hole is even slightly off the face will be angled- not pretty! Once I cut open the wall I found the exhaust wasn't straight up the wall where I expected so I would have had a very ugly install. I cut out a very straight and square opening in the front wall and then went to work in the garage, widening the hole to make necessary adjustments. It took some work and extra bracing added behind the unit (I used paint stir sticks cross between the studs- yes it looks like a hack but holds it square!) and the unit finally lined up perfectly to the opening. I couldn't get screws to hold it and be hidden so opted for a quick fix.Much longer install than I planned but the unit works great and catches extra lint consistently which would have gone back into the extended dryer vent and created a major fire concern (the whole reason I had to take on this project to begin with!). So very happy with the whole project and more importantly my wife is too!
4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps My Yard Clean and Removes a Fire Hazard
I constructed a new longer dryer vent path out to the front of the house, so I needed a new inline fan for that extra oomph. As I didn't want lint clogging the fan, or cluttering up my front yard, I purchased this lint trap. I had seen it used on the TV show Holmes Inspection (available on Netflix) and thought it a great idea. My previous system of venting into an external water trap in my 3 season porch had resulted in an horrible accumulation of lint all over the place, not to mention the fire hazard of flexible ductwork filled with lint. So, I'm happy to report that this does a very good job of stopping lint from progressing through my ductwork. After 5 months enough lint has reached the outside vent fill my hand (not much). To get it offset from the wall, and give room for the fan which I placed immediately above it, I mounted this on doubled blocks of 2x6 that I rounded off a bit and painted white before attaching with deck screws to my wall. Then I put screws right through the corners of this trap. It isn't going anywhere. I had a bit of trouble getting a decent seal to the 4 inch flexible ducting from my dryer, and it does whistle a tiny bit, but it looks OK and is functional. My one real issue (and I don't know if this is solvable) is that to clean the trap, I have to jerk the cover out of the box, and this action invariably brings a spray of dryer debris (little bits of hardened paper, etc.) which I have to wipe off my washer--which is immediately below this trap. As others have pointed out, the cover does not fit quite square in the box, but this might just be to allow the cover to come out at all. It doesn't appear to leak hot moist air into the room, which would be an actual problem.I'm quite happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone willing to listen to my epic story of installing a 30 foot dryer vent.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best lint catcher
I have a dryer that loses way too much lint into the vent hose. So I have to vacuum out the hose every couple of weeks. We have bought several different vent line lint traps. Each melted or fell apart after being attached for more than a month. I blame the steam my dryer uses. We found this one and decided to try it because it was mostly made of metal. I am soo glad we did. This thing works great. It is still in perfect condition after months of use. I love it. And it is soo much easier to use than the other ones that we tried.
Very nice product

The thickness of the metal is very good. It is very easy to pull out with the handle design and I love the fact that it is easy to clean.
