I have used Ocean Forest in at least 20 bags and see no reason to change. This soil holds water well and is balanced for my organic growing. I use it as part of a living soil with California super soil and don't really have to feed only water.

Most who have used this soil already know, but for those folks who don't know about Ocean Forest, it's a fantastic soil for indoor/outdoor gardening. Most gardeners I know call it a "warm" soil, meaning it has some nutrients already in it. You CAN germinate in it but would probably be better off starting your seeds in something a little less "warm". You can grow lettuce in it from start to finish with no additional nutrients! Most other vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, etc) will likely need some additional nutrients a few weeks in. Here's a BIG bonus, I rarely encounter ANY pests (fungus gnats) from this soil. Also, it combines great with Happy Frog potting soil which is less "warm" and has some great ingredients to help the root system develop/stay healthy. Last but not least for those who read this far, if you're using Ocean Forest indoors you can't go wrong by adding a little extra perlite to the mix...I do about a 1:5 ratio (1 part extra perlite to 5 parts Ocean Forest). I’ve used this several times now and have had good outcome, I do water as needed daily most of the time. But this soil doesn’t hold water very well. I actually added some FF Salamander soil this time n a mix to see if it helps. I would recommend

Ocean Forest has a good reputation because it works.Mine was perfect. Not a single bug to infiltrate my horticultural chamber. There’s a TOTALLY false assertion circulating online about Ocean Forest being “too hot” for young seedlings. The only way that “OF” is going to burn a seedling to death, is if YOU add nitrogen or some other additional fertilizer to it before you even sow your seeds. Resist that urge.Ocean Forest is good for at LEAST two weeks minimum before it needs any type of additional nutrition.
