I bought the clear and dark vanilla and to be honest to me the dark doesn't smell at all of vanilla and the taste was unbearable.I don't cook with vanilla, but this my sound crazy to people but, I swear it works. I love to fish and I'm always pestered to death by nats and mosquitoes. I was told a long time ago that nats and mosquitoes hate the smell of vanilla. I have spent hundreds of dollars on mosquitoe spray that never really works and then smell like the spray afterwards. I bought a spray bottle just for this.So I tried the vanilla out a few days ago and it truly works mosquitoes and nats hate the smell of vanilla. Another thing I like about it is you can spray your face and not worry about chemicals getting into your eyes and mouth. Ater I spayed myself I sat in my chair on the lake I was at and sat and watched as a swarm of mosquitoes came about a foot away from face and not a 1 came up to my face. I was truly amazed of how good it worked.So I just ordered 2 more bottles of clear vanilla so I want run out so fast. So if you don't a lot of fishing this is the ideal thing to use

Given the price of food these days, I figured I'd give this a try as my daughter loves baking (and has gone through several smaller bottles of vanilla) and you definitely get a lot for your money.As stated by several other reviewers, it does have a slight cinnamon/coconut flavor to it. Fortunately, both my wife and daughter love the way it tastes and they feel it improved the flavor of several baked goods. I felt it added to the chocolate chip cookies she made and made the flavor of the chocolate stand out more. But when she tried it in my mom's buttercream icing recipe, it didn't taste the same. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the taste I grew up with, so it's hard for me to adjust. On the plus side, having the clear vanilla made for a whiter frosting.Well worth the purchase. We will definitely purchase again, but you get so much, it probably won't be for a while.

This is NOT real vanilla extract but is a vanilla flavored liquid with a strange weak taste. Like most Mexican vanilla "extracts" this is not the real deal. Not buying again.

This is a mixed product of natural and artificial vanilla (it says it on the bottle labelled as vanillin) which will be artificially created but is the same molecule as natural vanilla--just the source is different. The flavor is good and almost as intense as pure natural vanilla generated from vanilla beans in a solvent such as rum, ethanol, propylene glycol, etc. It is good value for money and the clear one works well for desserts that require a white end product. I prefer Tolteca, sold on Bolo, a bit better but the price on this one and for general cooking this is better value for money.

Pure Mexican Vanilla not only can be used for cooking. Here is a secret that you will thank me for. I use it to repel mosquitos and gnats. If you are out in the yard, patio, or in the outdoors, and are bugged by pesty mosquitos and gnats, pour some "Mexican Pure Vanilla" in your hands and wipe the exposed areas of your body and kids (faces, arms, necks, legs...) down with it. Like magic mosquitos and gnats are no longer bothering you. It works as a natural repellent, and it smell great. I put it in a misting spray bottle for better management.

Doesn't smell anything like vanilla extract
This extract has a very strange chemically smell. I've used vanilla extract for many years and it's never smelled like thisI sent a message to the supplier but got no reply. This will be returned.
