I have twins, 3 months old. When I was in the hospital one was in the room with me and the other in the NICU, my milk had not come in and attempting to nurse was terrible and extremely painful. Because the babies were premies with complications we qualified for donor breast milk, which we did while we were in the hospital. I knew that I would have to supplement my babies for a while, or flat out formula feed, after discussing with the pediatrician a formula I felt good enough to give my babies, we decided on Nutramigen… I have a severe cows milk allergy and it took 20 years to diagnose, I was afraid my children would have the same allergy, although the doctor said most likely not; either way, I wanted them on a hypoallergenic formula. My girl was having a lot of blood in her stool, so the doctor recommended I go off dairy completely or stop nursing - like I said, I have a dairy allergy, so I was already off of it - she assumed I was mistakenly eating it - but I refused to stop nursing her, so I stopped giving her Nutramigen and within a week her bloody stools stopped! My son had major issues… he would cry in pain for upwards of 15 hours a day and would have a horrible time eating, he was on formula only. The doctors all said "colic" and to try colic drops/gas drops/probiotics… I did, I tried everything under the moon and nothing worked. As time went on I grew increasingly angry at the "colic" label…I knew something was wrong. I would nurse but what little I was making was going to his sister because she "needed" it more. And then it happened…blood in his stool. I didn't even know where to begin to look for a different formula but Bolo came through. I found PurAmino and ordered it overnight shipping and started it the next day… within 24hours I noticed a complete difference in my son. First, he went from 15 plus hours of crying to 8 hours or less, and I noticed his coloring changed (not so white). Over the course of a week he was a completely different kid and his crying reduced to 2-3hrs a day (he still gets bad gas). To top it off, my daughter takes the formula with no issues as well. Downside, my insurance refuses to cover formula…it is a very pricey formula but worth every penny!

This formula has kept my son healthy and growing strong since only a few days after birth. We had a very difficult first few months that began after starting him on a regular infant formula at the hospital. Despite noticing a lot of spitup, we were assured that it was normal - and this being our first child, we didn't really know any better. After being discharged from the birth stay, things progressed and worsened, my newborn son started to look withdrawn, his color was bad, he was fussy constantly, and he was projectile vomiting after every bottle. We were rushed back to the hospital at 4 days old and spent a week there trying to determine what was wrong. Come to find out, it was a severe milk allergy. They started us on nutramigen but he was still unable to process that so PurAmino was the next step. I was lucky enough to be in a city where a PurAmino distributor delivered us a sample right away so that we could stop feeding my son the formulas his body couldn't handle. Within a few days, he had a complete turnaround. He was alert, happy, and finally putting weight back on.He is now 16 months old, very smart, and since getting him onto PurAmino, he's been growing at a steady rate. He's now 98% in height and 95% in weight and quickly transitioning onto solids. But, one of the best things about PurAmino is that the taste he grew to love and depend on since birth is one that can stay with him until he is fully weaned from bottles at 2 years of age. As a mom to a child with such a severe allergy to dairy (and soy), I feel comfortable knowing that he can get the nutrition he needs from this formula for a little bit longer than the classic 12 month mark. That lets me sleep better at night... and keeps him growing strong and healthy.I don't know where we would be without PurAmino. It is expensive, but given the options we were facing, I couldn't be more thankful to have had access to this formula. And, for what its worth, I always purchased it from Bolo directly which made the hectic chaotic life with a newborn just a tad simpler too!
