![Hawkins: The Complete TV-Movie Collection [DVD]](https://images.bolo.ae/I/71X0u3aw+qL._SL1000_.jpg)
Description:
A decade before TV saw another silver-haired, slow-drawling Southern shyster with a knack for sleuthing out the truth, M-G-M welcomed back two titanic talents, TV producer Norman Felton and screen legend Jimmy Stewart, for Hawkins. Stewart played Billy Jim Hawkins in rotation with the Shaft TV movies (Talk about Country Mouse and City Mouse!), solving crimes alongside his cousin RJ (Strother Martin) and a bevy of sensational costars. Bonnie Bedelia plays a troubled young woman accused of familicide, Cameron Mitchell plays a tinseltown spouse facing murder charges, Julie Harris plays an accused mercy killer, William Windom plays a parent with a vendetta, Lew Ayres and James Best play folk caught up in a deadly Civil War re-enactment, James Luisi plays a football pro caught up in foul play, Teresa Wright plays an ex-amour of Bill Jim's, and Paul Burke and Pernell Roberts play a senator and aide caught up in a slaying.

This Hawkins TV-Movie Collection is a must have for those who enjoy similar genres. After watching this collection several times, in my opinion this might be Jimmy Stewart at his best. So enjoyable to watch, we pick up new things every time we rewatch episodes. Wonderful character acting and cinematography.High recommend this DVD collection.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great old TV show - should have ran for several seasons
Jimmy Stewart and the actors playing his family/staff have a lot of fun in these “Perry Mason”-like courtroom mysteries.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, underrated, almost forgotten series
James Stewart stars as Billy Jim Hawkins, a West Virginia, high-powered lawyer, in this 1973 series which had exactly nine episodes, coming in at 1 hour 15 minutes each. Stewart, in his second TV series, works hard at being a character, and he is well-aided by a supporting cast (Mayf Nutter, James Hampton, Strother Martin) and a bomber cast of 1960's and 1970's actors - William Windom, Tyne Daly, Paul Burke, Sheree North, Cameron Mitchell, Bonnie Bedelia, Kenneth Mars (pre-Inspector Kemp on Young Frankenstein), Julie Harris, Sam Elliott, Jeannette Nolan, among others. It naturally will remind some of Matlock, the Andy Griffith attorney series of the 1980s and 1990s and producer David Karp said in an interview that Griffith was once approached, but the deal somehow fell through.I personally love the gripping, action-packed theme song by Jerry Goldsmith, but, somehow, it doesn't quite fit the saga of a laid-back West Virginia lawyer. No matter, this is well worth the price (no subtitling or special features), thanks to well-written scripts and good direction.
4.0 out of 5 stars Jimmy Stewart Nostalgia
I bought these DVDs on the strength of Jimmy Stewart nostalgia and was not disappointed by his performance. I gave a rating of 4 stars because of what I considered poor direction during the courtroom scenes in which Stewart comes off as an early days Mattlock on one of his bad days. The best episode of the eight is the one that is set in Hawkins home town, the rest have him flying off to all parts of the country. I have a pretty large library now of DVDs but I am not going to add this set to it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Complete Hawkins TV Movies Finally on DVD
It's great to see this excellent TV movie series with James Stewart finally on DVD. This 4-DVD set includes all eight episodes from 1973-1974:1. Death and the Maiden (AKA Hawkins on Murder)2. Murder in Movieland3. Die Die, Darling4. A Life for a Life5. Blood Feud6. Murder in the Slave Trade7. Murder on the Thirteenth Floor8. Candidate for MurderThe Internet Movie Database lists nine episodes but "Death and the Maiden" and "Hawkins on Murder" are actually the same episode which aired on March 13, 1973.Stewart's character Billy Jim Hawkins is similar to the role he played in the 1959 film "Anatomy of a Murder." His character reminds me of Andy Griffith's Ben Matlock character from the "Matlock" series (1986-1995). If anyone enjoys "Matlock," I think they would also enjoy watching "Hawkins."
3.0 out of 5 stars Anatomy of a Lawyer
In 1959 James Stewart made a movie called "Anatomy of a Murder". Almost 15 years later he was on TV playing a down-home country lawyer."Hawkins" was part of the rotating mystery movie franchise that was aired during the early 1970"s.This DVD has all 8 TV movie episodes.Quality is good.Guest stars include:Cameron Mitchell (The High Chaparral)Pernell Roberts (Bonanza)Paul Burke (Naked City)to name a few. This is fairly entertaining but was not a hit and only lasted one season. This could be because it rotated with a series called "Shaft" which had been a big hit on the big screen in 1971. But being TV the violence had to be toned down for the TV version of "Shaft".This also lasted only one season.I think the reason being was that people who tuned in each week for "Shaft" got a gentler murder mystery while those who tuned into "Hawkins" got a tough New York city detective. But years later a show very similar in vain to "Hawkins" called "Matlock" was a hit for Andy Griffith and ran for 8 seasons.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Quality of the entertainment, the hardware and packaging is all good. We had never heard of this old series until I bought it last month. Excellent writers, directing, production, and actors. Stewart does a great job with his part. Supporting actors are very good too. I recommend this.
5.0 out of 5 stars USED WAS GREAT
I had not seen this before and am enjoying it now. The used quality is great.

Spannende Anwaltserie
Endlich habe ich diese Dvd gefunden.Suche schon seit Jahren danach.
Golden memories
Great nostalgic drama
Not good
