I was looking for a replacement for my original part. This one does not have a hole, like my original for my Breville Barista Express, however after research, I have found that that is now recommended. It worked as I hoped.

We ordered this Breville espresso cleaning disc because we lost ours. When it arrived, I saw it didn’t have a tiny hole in the center of the rubber disc like the one we lost that came with the Barista Express BES870XL.Concerned, I read the reviews and saw a number of complaints saying it didn’t work because it didn’t have a hole.I emailed this seller who responded very quickly.The seller informed me that Breville had redesigned this cleaning disc to clean better. Breville found that by eliminating the hole it forces the cleaning solution to truly back flush the unit so all of the spent cleaning solution comes out the into the drip tray as it should.To confirm the sellers answer/story I called Breville and spoke with their Espresso Customer Service Department.Breville Customer Service confirmed that it is a better cleaning method and is compatible with all versions of the Barista Express BES870XL.

As far as I know the cleaning cycle on my espresso machine (Breville BES870XL) worked. The original disc that came with the the machine had a tiny hole in it so water would come out during a cleaning cycle. This one does NOT have a hole and no water comes out, BUT apparently this is normal. The cleaning water discharges to the tray at the bottom of the machine.
