5.0 out of 5 stars Great album

E. · February 1, 2025

Great album, turnpike troubadours are a modern classic and this first album is excellent

5.0 out of 5 stars Really not a bad track on the entire album

T. · September 5, 2020

If you hate "twang" then stop reading. Now.If you like powerful singing and songwriting, then please continue. Most of these tracks have phrases and larger lyrics that cut like a knife. Consider pretty much anything from "The Funeral" (...a counterfeit James Dean...headed down to Okie City in a slightly stolen car...nothing like family makes you feel so damn alone... ) There are also a few chord progressions sprinkled in (the title track "Diamonds and Gasoline") that make your ears sit up and take notice. The album spans the full range of possibilities from the raucous party anthem ("Shreveport") to the the dark and sad ("Evangeline"). The song progression also seems to have been carefully mapped out, at least to old fossils like me with enough of an attention span to listen. To a WHOLE album. In its entirety. (Yes kids, really. Try it once.)Instrumentally, the standards are there (guitar, bass, drums) but with plenty of sonic elements (fiddle, banjo, harmonica, resonator guitar, and accordion/concertina) to make each song a new exploration in what good country music really is. Those who know the Troubadours also know about the strong pipes of Felker and the solid harmonies that abound. Heaping helpings of those elements pervade this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound

E.B. · September 16, 2024

I wish I would have found this album sooner, it beats the sound of mainstream country music by a mile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs with Intelligence and Passion!

D.E.G. · January 23, 2016

I had never heard this band previously, but this album popped up on my Bolo "Recommendations" list, and after reading the many positive reviews I thought it was worth a try. Man, ordering this CD was one of my best decisions in recent memory; this is a dynamite and dynamic album!Call this band country, or country-rock, or alt-country, or whatever, but this is simply great music. These songs pack a punch with outstanding musicianship (love that fiddle playing!) and soothe the soul with intelligent lyrics. Few groups nowadays can combine lyrical depth with musical prowess, but the Turnpike Troubadours excel at both. At times their sound reminds me of the Drive-By Truckers (or even ex-DBT singer-guitarist Jason Isbell) or groups like Whiskeytown and the Old 97s. They've got that same spirit and positive attitude. Songs with passion and intelligence, and unbridled energy. I'll take that! From the first track to the last, this is really an incredibly impressive album.Perhaps the highest recommendation I can make is that after playing this CD a dozen-plus times, I was so impressed that I ordered another CD by the Turnpike Troubadours. Can't wait to hear that one too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Late for No Depression

a. · February 11, 2024

This is great working-class riffs in the tradition of Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, and The Bottle Rockets. It's a very strong album and worth being more popular. My guess is that came along too late for the initial wave of "alternative country" that defined the late 1990s and early 2000s. Still, listening to these Oklahoma boys jam is a worthwhile use of your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars How do get it in my Zune?

C. · January 11, 2023

I’ve always been told that vinyl records have a great sound, so I was excited to receive this product. I’m sure it does sound great, but how the heck am I supposed to fit this thing in my Microsoft Zune MP3 player? The port on the bottom is WAY too small. I tried folding it up and cracking by it in there. I also tried putting it in the microwave with the Zune to see if the radiation would fuse the two. Nothing I’ve tried has worked. Please help.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl sounds bad!?

J. · May 30, 2022

Album is five stars and I'm sure the seller is too. Just putting 4 so someone will know and notice that the vinyl sounds bad. Could be mine or maybe they were all pressed horribly. Double checked with another record of mine to make sure and it was fine. First song skipped almost the entire way, some random skipping after, and parts of the rest sounded not much different than an mp3 through bad headphones. I don't know know much about records, but if it's noticeable to my ears, it's gotta be awful to someone who actually knows a thing or two about recording and sound.

Excellent album

Brilliant Album

R.P. · October 16, 2023

This second album by the Turnpike Troubadors released in 2010 is a cracker with no dud tracks. The two opening tracks Every Girl and 7&7 set the tone and what follows doesn’t disappoint. Great vocals from Evan Felker and lovely songs. I can’t wait to buy their latest album, A Cat On The Rain, released after a two year hiatus, and which sounds pretty good on first listening.

Wunderbarer Red Dirt Country aus Oklahoma

T. · April 25, 2014

b. · May 2, 2014

Le titre vient du morceau éponyme ( And I would buy for you a diamond or myself some gasoline) Ecoutez The Funeral ou Whole damn town ou Long hot summer day et vous apprécierez j'espère cette excellent découverte qui mérite plus de reconnaissance.
