So, I was down to my last filter and overdue for a filter change. Bolo offered a ‘home improvement purchase’ credit and I set out to find my replacement here as opposed to another online vendor I’d been using for the 14 years my side-by-side has been alive.As I always start with the 1-star reviews while shopping, and after reading those and Bolo customers’ comments, I hesitated in buying this filter from Bolo. Perhaps the warnings were right (change in size; change in end prongs; change of color to purple being the bad ones; plastic taste, etc.). I thought: ‘Maybe the transition from Kenmore to Whirlpool to Pur to Every Drop over the span of 14 years has caused a compatibility issue with my older fridge and it will be risky to buy from somewhere different after all’. Then I remembered that Bolo’s returns aren’t too difficult, so I gave it a shot.I recalled reading in the gripes: people had bought this filter, waited several months to attempt to change their filter, discovered there was a problem with the new one only after the period for returns; winding up out $45 bucks. Several suggested trying this new one immediately just in case you ran into any issues, you’d still be able to send it back. Sage advice to keep my spare — that I KNOW will work — as a spare!New filter arrived yesterday. It was white like the one pictured. Water is odorless and clear. No weird taste. The size and prongs were identical to the filter being replaced. The only differences I noticed were: slightly faster flow and a loud clicking/banging sound upon installation which had NEVER happened with the previous 20 filter changes.Hoping this helps someone else who, like me, has an older-model fridge and reads too many 1-star reviews.

This is the new model of water filter replacing the previous PUR brand water filter for my Whirlpool refrigerator. The product looks good, packaging is great, and the unit itself is identical to the previous PUR brand. However, after I removed the old filter I installed this new one and water would not flow anymore. I thought I just installed it wrong so I took it out and double checked. The housing of the unit is such that it's IMPOSSIBLE to install it incorrectly. I installed it again making sure it clicked into place and water still did not flow. I put the old filter back in and water flowed without a problem on the first try. I should also mention that when I remove the new filter there's always a rush of air and a small amount of water that comes out, as if it was pressurized when I tried to turn the water on. It's like water goes in the filter and builds up pressure, but nothing comes back out.After doing this same process multiple times with no solution I went online and looked up any information I could.Check to make sure the pump is working: check, it's working fineCheck to make sure the reservoir isn't frozen: Check, it's cold but water flows freelyCheck to make sure all electrical connections are secure: Check, everything is connectedCheck motor to make sure it's pumping: Check, the motor hums along as if it's trying to pump water but nothing comes out.The only conclusion I could come up with is that the filter is defective. First unit, first try, and it's defective. I realize these things happen, no product can be made with 100% perfection so I know there will always be a few here and there that aren't up to manufacturing standards.I've utilized Bolo's return policy and am now waiting for a replacement. If the replacement works just fine i'll update this review to something better than 1 star.****UPDATE****Having received my replacement filter I installed it and everything worked perfectly fine. I'm updating the "stars" to 4-stars (would have been 5 if original wasn't defective) but i'm leaving my original review from the first filter so others can read that as well.I'm happy with the product, works like it should, but couldn't give 5 stars due to original defective product.

A Positive Purchase!
A great filter. No issues with purchase, delivery, installation, and use. Had preliminary concerns after reading some of the comments on the Bolo.com website with relation to it being a downgrade from its predecessor model and the bad taste of its water. However, this is not the case as the filter was of good physical quality while water dispensed had no noticeable undesired taste or scent. Using the water for my drip drop coffee the next day had a marked improvement of my brew! Would recommend, especially I had previously tried (and subsequently returned) generic replacement filters - a night and day result. Also note that it is also compatible with Kenmore side-by-sides that uses 9030 (which is also the Whirlpool 4396710).
It does exactly as promised.
It makes the water taste like water, no weird tastes from my experience. I would definitely recommend for anyone else who has the option to get this filter, just follow the instructions and it should work just fine.
