I wear a 14 or 16 and the L-XL is too tight on me. My son wears a 34 - 36 waist and it's almost to small on him, so it will work well if you're quite thin or take a small size. I was disappointed because this is a very nice back brace.

and it is too tight! I have lumbar stenosis/scoliosis that runs (ruins) my life. I've shrunk in height and my waist is what it is but the measurements are a bit off. So mine has to go back but the return process is not helpful, I have to buy it again instead of swap, grr.
