These Wharfedales fit the bill and sound very good. I was lucky to find them. They look beautiful as well.

Very nice speakers. I have them paired with PS Audio Sprout and a laptop full of FLAC. It took about 60-80 hours to really burn in the system, but then the speakers disappear. When you close your eyes, all you get is the music. On well recorded tracks, the system is a dream a,d not unexpectedly, with badly recorded, over-compressed crap such as mp3s, the system unfortunately shows it, lighting up with sibilance on the high end and muddiness on the low.This setup is particularly wonderful for jazz recordings. Wow... Like sitting in a club while the music plays. Sufficiently detailed for classical. Not the best I've heard, but that's an unfair comparison against a larger, more sophisticated system. In a small room, these will make Solti's Wagner recordings really sing.The real surprise was with rock recordings. These speakers pack some serious oomph for their size. Yes, you can crank up "Smoke On the Water" with these and happily air guitar along. The bass is well extended and pretty tight.Didn't bi-wire, even though they're wired for it. Honestly don't think I could tell the difference if I did. As far as price/performance goes, these are some serious bang for the buck. I've listened to far more expensive speakers that didn't sound half as good.For the money, I couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't ordinarily go for expensive imported speakers, but these are used for my near field listening at my home office. I listen here for hours a day and I wanted really exceptional sound quality - not little plastic computer speakers. The price on these was reasonable for such a well regarded brand, and the reviews for these 220's have been stellar. So I took the leap, and haven't regretted a thing. They sound flawless. Rock, jazz, and classical, I just smile when I listen with these. Quick transients, crisp midrange, smooth treble. I also purchased the small subwoofer from Wharfedale, the 10.SX, to accompany these, and I'll admit that it gives them the lift in the low end that they need. So all in all, larger than typical desktop speakers, but worth every penny.

was going to use these for games and EM music... speakers sound good for games very detailed mid-range driver, tweeter on music cracked in the highest regions... and sound soft on top.. they do not show up the definition of EM music ... They do a great job on dialog in movies ... watched Hannibal and voices were perfect.. near field background noises were distinct.. hannibal standing at a phone booth could hear everything and the sound of rushing car noise people walking everything in place... sounds excellent on vocals... guitars.. but subtle timbre on EM music did not sound distinct.. and on some music tweeter would break up with some high freq. sounds playing music.

Have been using this speaker for 20 hours, it haven't fully break in yet. Anyway, great sound, I like the warm characteristic of this speaker. The speaker just getting better and better from hour to hour. Besides, the look and construction are great as well, feel luxury. Am happy i purchased it.

These British-designed, Chinese made speakers do a fine job for speakers at this price point. Skins are vinyl, enclosures are solidly built and components are weighty enough to avoid unwanted vibrations and to provide fine, clear sound. They make a handsome pair for bookshelf or table top display. I took the word of audiophile reviewers whose 'ears' are more demanding than mine about the quality of this set and I have been very well-pleased with my purchase, which I am using with a combination stereo radio/amp/phono/cd player base unit by Yamaha. My kit would blow the windows out of my senior community apartment and still would provide high quality sound. As it is, the setup delivers a full range of quality sound at low volume levels as well.

Mi sono deciso per le Wharfedale 220 dopo avere letto diverse recensioni entusiastiche, soprattutto su What HiFi. Le casse sono piccoline e appartengono al segmento basso del mercato, ma il suono è quasi incredibile. Ascolto soprattutto musica classica, ma altri in famiglia ascoltano pop e rock, così le abbiamo provate in diversi modi. La potenza è tale da riempire senza problemi un ambiente di 9mX5. La finezza di dettaglio è ottima, i diversi strumenti dell'orchestra sono nitidamente separati; il suono è pieno e ricco. La sorpresa principale viene con i bassi, potenti, nitidi ed equilibrati. Occorre però tenere le casse ad almeno 5 cm dal muro di fondo della stanza, altrimenti i bassi rimbombano un pochino. Ho avuto due o tre volte un sospetto (appena un sospetto) di resa un po' stridula negli acuti durante i fortissimo dell'orchestra, ma riascoltando i brani non ho più notato niente del genere. Se noterò qualcosa di particolare, tornerò a correggere la recensione.DOPO QUATTRO ANNI E MEZZO (gennaio 2020): le casse sono splendide.
Una excelente relación calidad precio
Comprar por internet unos altavoces sin escucharlos me daba muchos reparos, más si cabe, porque tengo un buen oído musical. Pero la falta de tiempo y de tiendas de sonido como las de hace años, donde podía uno probar diferentes parejas de altavoces, me llevó a decirme, no sin antes leer un montón de opiniones. Después de unos días con ellos y probarlos con todo tipo de música, moderna y clásica, puedo calificar su sonido de excelente, sin distorsiones, claro, con muy buenos bajos (aunque recomendaría aumentar el rango de frecuencias desde 35Hz) y unos agudos cristalinos. Destacar que el puerto bass reflex en la base es todo un logro, perfecto el resultado sonoro y permite colocar el altavoz donde quieras sin tener que alejarlo de la pared. El acabado es muy bueno, si bien, me vinieron los altavoces sin las patas de goma, pero MP3 me confirma que las han solicitado a Whaferdale y las tengo en camino. Felicitar a MP3 por su calidad de servicio: se anticiparon a los plazos de entrega estipulados, el embalaje perfecto, atención al cliente muy bien también. El único pero, el de siempre: a pesar de que solicitas la entrega por la tarde, la compañía de reparto se presenta cuando les parece bien y sin previo aviso, por lo que se exponen a que no haya nadie para recoger el pedido.

Mit dem richtigen Receiver und die richtigen Einstellungen liefern sie einen Super Klang. Würde ich auf jedem Fall weiter empfehlen.
Le "nec plus ultra"...
Cette commande "revient de loin". Cherchant "une paire d'enceintes" pour améliorer le "rendu" de ma chaîne HiFi je me suis, au début, pas mal focalisé sur l'esthétique (l'apparence). Via ce critère, rien n'a retenu mon attention sur Bolo.fr. J'ai donc plus largement prospecté et suis "tombé", sur un autre site ("boulanger.com") sur une jolie offre (extérieur bambou), mais assez chère (368 €). J'ai, malgré tout, passé commande. A réception, j'ai regretté de ne m'être décidé que sur les apparences. J'ai donc réouvert Bolo.fr et, là, suis "tombé" sur cette offre assez extraordinaire. En premier lieu, la marque (Wharfedale) : c'est une marque britannique de grande qualité que je connaissais depuis longtemps et qui est donc très fiable ; en deuxième lieu, les caractéristiques techniques, et en particulier le fait d'avoir un terminal "à deux voies" (grave et aigu), ce qui garantit une meilleure restitution de l'ambiance sonore. Deux dernières données, enfin ; je suis, tout d'abord, tombé "incidemment" sur une petite vignette un peu dissimulée, mais précisant que le prix d'offre de ce modèle avait été ramené de 333 € à 184 €, ce qui en faisait une vraie affaire à ne pas manquer ; enfin, s'agissant d'un article dépassant les 100 €, j'avais accès aux quatre mensualités Cofidis qu'Bolo.fr pratique depuis quelque temps, et avec raison. J'ai donc fait un retour et abandonné ma première commande ("boulanger.com") et fait l'achat sur Bolo.fr à ces conditions "imbattables". Je viens de recevoir le matériel : aucune déception, bien au contraire ; seule remarque : Wharfedale - inexplicablement - ne fournit pas le câble (fil à deux conducteurs) nécessaire à la connexion des enceintes à la chaîne. Nul n'est parfait...

Wharfedale c'est du costaud, très bon rapport qualité prix, les meilleurs dans le milieu de gamme !Son merveilleusement équilibré ,dynamiques expressives, intégration fine, débordant de détail, des basses profondes et contrôlée.Et le tout très soigneusement fini.A acheter les yeux fermé et les oreilles grande ouverte !
