5.0 out of 5 stars A good Sci/Fy fantasy , even for family viewing!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I wasn't sure about this kind of movie, like a Sci-Fy fantasy, but as I kept watching, and noticed familiar actors, like William Atherton who did a well played part like he always does and was a convincing Priest, and also so was Farah Tahir whom I recognized from the first "Iron Man" movie, playing the Uncle of Shawn Walker, played by Dominic Rains who also did very well acting in double parts, i.e., his "doppleganger Jinn, I became entranced with it and really enjoyed it. Other reviewers who have this less than a 3 star were looking for more Action-Jackson type so they didn't like it for its value and plots, which may have seemed confusing at first but if you keep watching it, it gets more easier to understand it, and listen to the beginnings of the story of what a "Jinn" is and where it comes from and what it's purpose is. Look at the beginning credits of the producer and director names and some of the other other production crew's names and you'll begin to understand where, whom and why this story came about. Especially with Farah Tahir and his ancestry nomenclature; could be Pakistani like the Director, Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad who was born in Pakistan but has been an American director. So this movie has Middle Eastern backgrounds and probably was written by Pakistani or other Middle Eastern production members writing the script. Someone had to do their homework about a "Jinn" and the theological implications behind it so look at this movie in that way, not what you expect of some fantasy adventure film that should have had better sets and studio designs.I think this this is worth a watch and even for family viewing as there's no sexual scenes per say, just when the husband-wife team, Shawn and Jasmine Walker, were in bed but not performing a sex scene either. It does have it's violence not for small children but even the violence is not so violent, and same with blood and gore - not really any of that to worry about, except for the scene with Shawn seeing his wife supposedly was attacked by the Jinn, which was a lie as the Priest told him to ignore. And that scene only lasted a couple minutes, nothing really all that gory about it. So listen to the beginning, watch it all the way thru, even after a few end credits roll by, there is one last scene to know about why Gabriel, played very well by Ray Park, was there for Shawn. And the ending before that was an amazing last minute surprise that'll make you smile 😃 with enjoyment. Take into effect that the producer's and director's Middle Eastern names are why they made this movie enjoyable and you'll understand it better.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best JINN movie ever!!
Most movies like these are outright funny. But this one was serious and nicely made I believe it needed more like in the very last part I needed the Jinn to become Jasmine and make the main character cry but instead, I saw the main character's ass being whooped. I totally recommend this, especially after the Dabbe-Turkish movie. Because usually, Muslim scary movies are not as scary because the character they're depicting is invincible. I loved how they used the three Semitic religions and made a cute emblem showing unity which I really appreciated.
4.0 out of 5 stars Finally a unique movie!
Honestly I could go on and on, but this movie was a very refreshing watch. Yeah it had the good V evil trope which is as old as time itself... but what a retelling. I was curious, however, that no angels appeared. It spoke of men, angels and jinn, but only men and jinn appeared. I don't know about the rest of you but I fully expected an angel or two to show up and go ape on some jinn...I will admit I was skeptical about it, but I said whatever and watched the movie... and I am SO glad I did. Such a fresh take on the battle of good V evil that even I, a non-believer of either of the three faiths involved, was able to enjoy the religious undertones. The fact that it showed cooperation between the three Abrahamic faiths restored a smidgen of my faith in humanity. Apparently there's people who want it as badly as the rest of us who are sick of watching this millennia old family feud...Great movie, wonderful premise. Would definitely watch it again.
3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable fantasy with good effects and jump-scares
Enjoyed this movie more than I expected: pleasantly surprised at the quality of special effects, film score, and general story interest. Rated 3 because at times somewhat confusing as many of the action scenes alternate rapidly between past and present or reality and vision--and really much of the movie takes place in visions ... ? and would have liked a little more clarity of some loose-ends particularly regarding hero's family, priest and guardian characters, and his normal life--a bit unclear. But enjoyable and more than one jump-scare with creepy evil character(s). Also interesting combination of religious texts and myths. And nice to see a hero not totally white-washed.
1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the $5 bin.
I somehow managed to get about halfway through this movie (probably because I distracted myself with my phone for a good portion). It’s by far not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but man... usually I can pull through and make it to the end. I can’t do it.It has an interesting premise, but just can’t reach the goal it set for itself. I hate to say it, but just save yourself the time. This is never going to be anybody’s favorite movie, it will not develop a cult following, and I doubt Walmart ever even dumps it in their $5 bin. Move on to the next movie.
5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't trip my "bad movie" triggers so read the following
I'm the kind that likes finding plot holes. I often tear a movie apart (for others) while watching them to see things that don't make a lot of sense. With that being said, I really didn't find any in this show. The story was good, graphics were excellent and the acting was great. Usually, in most movies, one of these will make me notice how bad all 3 are and it's rare that I can sit and watch a movie without any of these 3 things catching my attention. This really was a good show.
5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and seen from a none main stream religious POV
You see a lot of spiritual movies with the plot wrapped around a Christian or Catholic theme but little reflect a different holy book. I love how unique this movie is it takes themes from the Torah, Bible, and the Quran and turns it into movie gold. If you like supernatural movies that have action and plot twist this is it. It is movie Gold.
