Wald 257 Multi-Fit Front Pizza Box Bicycle Basket, Black

Description:

  • Two-piece legs offer 7.5" of length adjustability and can be mounted to the fork axle or eyelets

  • Gloss black powder coat finish
  • 20.5" x 13" x 2" rail on sides and back
  • Bicycle baskets are the definition of functionality. By simply clamping a bicycle basket to your handlebar or rack, you can easily carry more stuff to and from where ever you may be pedaling. You keep your hands where they belong and can balance the new weight appropriately. They can even help impact your wallet by saving money on gas when running errands. Bicycle baskets help your health by getting you to exercise instead of hopping in the car for a short trip. By using a bicycle basket, you also get the peace of mind bicycling provides. You gain some simple time to yourself while you travel from point A to B giving you time to think or notice some details you simply sped past before.

I installed this very sturdy cargo platform on my 700C hybrid (700x41C) with about a 3 inch steering riser (forward sloped) on my straight bars.OPTIONS: You have 5 cargo options, for your front end. you can get a PORTIER RACK, or a PANNIER RACK or a LARGE BASKET or a HANDLEBAR BAG or THIS !PROS: EXTREME VERSATILITY, You can see and reach this platform while riding ... You can bungee a full sleep system or any sort of basket above the platform and there is even room UNDER the platform to bungee (or velcro) an e-bike assist battery, a Thermorest Z-Pad, or other compact (flattish) items (like tarps or rain-gear). Even the riser (bar mount) can be used to affix instruments, electronics, accessories. ROBUST: Easily will handle any "fork-safe" load (I would draw the line at ~25 max pounds but a fat, 8 year old kid, or larger, *could* sit on it, no problem). AFFORDABLE: Absolutely THE most affordable SERIOUS front cargo option. ADAPTABLE: I can tell you, right now, this thing hooks to your bars and your front axle and it will fit almost ANY bike that is 26 to 28 inches (700C) and will VERY likely fit even a smaller bike or a 29 incher (perhaps with some very minor mods) ... It fits my 700C (28 inch wheel bike) with a 3-inch steering riser, and I could have gone one hole larger (an inch higher). I WAS ABLE TO INSTALL MINE IN UNDER 20 MINUTES USING ONLY THE SUPPLIED HARDWARE AND SOME VERY COMMON TOOLS. SOLID AS A ROCK ! (A mechanic could install it in 5 or 10 minutes).CONS: ~KINDA HEAVY: Definitely hefty (more than an aluminum pannier rack) but way less heavy than a WALD "FULL BASKET" ... But it is VERY ROBUST. ... HIGH CENTER OF GRAVITY: If you are touring, between cities, you may wish to go for a lower center of gravity and less weight, up front BUT, nothing beats this, for the city, (except, perhaps, a ~$100~$250 Portier Rack) for CITY CARGO OPTIONS. The perfect height for access while riding.*** CONS (BOTTOM LINE?) ... It is pretty heavy ... It has a higher center of gravity than other options.ALSO: WHEN PARKED (EVEN EMPTY) I NEED TO TURN MY WHEEL *AWAY* FROM THE KICKSTAND (FULLY TO THE RIGHT) OR THE BIKE WILL FALL OVER (a dinky stand).DISCUSSION:They call this the Multi-Fit "Pizza Box" ... Really, it is a full-blown (heavy duty) cargo-rack and, like I said, you will lose "operable managability" LONG before you could excede the load limits of this rock-stable platform. ... I assure you that it will easily and securely hold a 20 amp-hour e-bike battery AND a USGI ECWS MODULAR SLEEP SYSTEM (winter bivy) and still have room for a folding sleep-pad and lights and accessories. I have not tried to combine a handlebar bag with this rack but it looks like you should have NO problems using a bar-bag concurrently. EASILY bungee a ~70 Litre Duffle (dry-bag, etc) ... full of laundry or a sleep system, large poly tarp, whatever. Any dog you can see over (and steer with) providing that an appropriate basket (or carrier) is securely attached to this rack. You really cannot go wrong, for the money ... I am picky and I hate getting duped by false marketing ... Guess what ? ... I am thrilled ... yup.EVEN IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND (MUCH LATER, I'M SURE), YOU CAN STILL DITCH THE MOUNTS AND USE THIS RACK AS A HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL BUNGEE-RACK, BY ATTACHING IT TO YOUR REAR TOURING RACK, WITH HEAVY-DUTY ZIP-TIES OR OTHER APPROPRIATE FASTENERS.DOO-IT !! NO WORRIES !! (sincere).= END REVIEW =

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price, great quality - add a wheel stabilizer to take it to the next level.

Awesome rack. Looks great, built to last. I recommend picking up one of the Velo Orange Wheel Stabalizers as well. The rack can make the front end of the bike “floppy” especially on sharp turns or when stopped. The stabilizer keeps everything tight and takes it to the next level!

1.0 out of 5 stars Can I please return item for refund.

Easily loosen pieces while riding. Screw holder fell off while riding and is now gone.

I'm not a "biker" by any means but I wanted a rack that was not only large enough but sturdy enough to handle transporting my drone and it's large carrying case through downtown El Paso. I purchased this rack after reading reviews that used phrases like "bomb proof" when describing it. All of these reviews also mentioned that it was HEAVY. Again, I'm not a biker, but don't let the word heavy discourage you from purchasing this rack, I've noticed no difficulty while riding through the congested streets of downtown, even with the drone case in the rack.I put this on a standard cruiser and it fit perfectly. The rack is adjustable and looks like it can fit to almost any configuration/size bike. Simple install, less than 15 minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly enough, would definitely recommend.

Big, heavy, and unwieldy, this rack is a big point of contention with most bikes. I can load this with upwards of seventy pounds of stuff (I can actually carry a passenger on one of these NOT ADVISED), but most bike frames cannot handle this kind of weight by any means. I had an old '87 Schwinn cruiser that would literally try to pretzel with the front and rear weighed down heavily. Could see that the front and rear wheels could wind up a few inches off track from each other. The fork would like to flop to one side or another when parked. This would have been EXTREMELY easy to handle with a single strap to tie one side of the rack to the frame when parked, but I was lazy and just dealt with it. Also added a lot of inertia to steering, which served to slow steering down.Really, if you want to carry dozens of pounds of textiles, chopped wood, or other strange utility stuff, there is little better. Just make sure you are okay with fork flop and some handling strangeness. Oh, and make sure to own a sturdy frame for god's sake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product.

it's a great product. Exactly as advertised. It's a bitchin option for our tandem cruiser, perfect for a cooler of beer!Wish the mounting hardware were stainless though. It completely changes the balance of the bike when parked. On the kickstand the front end becomes very heavy and it's hard to keep the bike balanced on the stand. I opted for a center stand to help offset the added weight... just a heads up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy as a rock. Heavy as one, too.

I work as a bike courier and I strongly suspect that if I ever get hit on my bike again and my bike is totaled that this rack will still be in impeccable condition. I don't have a fancy chrome frame bike nor cheap lightweight aluminum one-- in fact my bike frame is a hunk of steel and there is nothing lightweight about it-- and still this rack attempts to rival the weight of my entire bike. If you are looking for a front bike rack that can both carry a pizza and potentially survive a bombing then this is the one to go with. If you are looking for a bike rack that you can make it up a steep hill with when loaded up (or not loaded-- let's start small here) without taking a few breaks or barring that suddenly growing a third lung and/or abruptly gaining superhuman strength then this is not it. The good news is that while it may give one's bike an odd center of gravity, it will still be in excellent working order after it causes you to wipe out. I want to love this bike rack but I due to it's weight I curse every time I have to make my way up Lombard or Union Street. Not that I don't curse normally going up those streets but biking up those hills with this racks leaves time for me to curse for a good while longer.
