5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, Uniform, Clean Lentils!
This is a great brand from which I've bought several other bulk food items. The lentils arrive very clean, uniform in color & shape, & are quite fresh. They look & smell like something edible. Spanish brown lentils have a nice "meaty" flavor & heavier mouthfeel, so cooked lentils can easily replace 50%+ of the ground hamburger required in any recipe if you're looking to cut the cost & the fat. I also love how the lentils can replace 25% of the beans in any chili or refried beans recipe if you want to add some different nutrition. Lastly, I like to add different colored lentils & green & yellow split peas to rice pilafs for added protein & nutrition. I have always been impressed with Palouse purchases & continue to repurchase pulses from this company. Very pleased with this buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real brown lentils, great flavor, loaded with folate
Just like the real delicious mini brown lentils we ate in my European childhood - stay put, barely need any seasoning if at all, GREAT FOR MTHFR gene anomaly folks or those needing extra folate (NOT MANMADE FOLIC ACID CRAP). JUST LEARNED THROUGH $$$ ALCAT intolerance test what my body already knew - orange mushy dal lentils are bad for me because and these are great/safe. I toss handfulls in soups, even cook them fresh in mini rice cooker on picnics with a car cigarette lighter power converter and take along when travel. Easy to cook, great comfort food and loaded with benefits. Palouse is unparalelled and affordable via Bolo delivery. Forget stale Whole Foods bins of dubious origins. These don't even need rinsing. Yes, added to food gift baskets many times with positive feedback. I don't work for the company or received anything for this review.
5.0 out of 5 stars These Make the Best Lentil Soup!
I love these lentils and have been buying them bagged for several years. It was time to level-up and get the BIG bucket! Great taste, high quality, fast delivery.

Perfectly beautiful lentils. I am finishing my 1st 25 pound tub and WILL ABSOLUTELY ORDER ANOTHER SOON. Very clean and firm. We love these.
5.0 out of 5 stars Grain Mixture: Quinoa, Lentils, and Rice
I have been making the lentils in my rice cooker, and have been mixing them with Alter Eco Fair Trade Rice, and then also Alter Eco Fair Trade Quinoa. So both my grains and my cooking apparatus came from Bolo. My refrigerator also was ordered from Bolo (the seasoning however that I put in is from Yah's Best that I bought over at the North Carolina Farmer's Market).Panasonic SR-G06FG 3.3 Cup (uncooked) Automatic Rice Cooker, SilverAlter Eco White Jasmine Rice, Scented Thai Grains, 11-Pound BagAlter Eco Fair Trade Pearl Quinoa, 25-PoundAlthough no gourmet by any means I enjoy the mixture. As a person who does not eat animal products lentils are a good source of protein for me.So -- there was a person who gave one star because the lentils are more expensive than what one finds at a supermarket.I haven't been buying from the local supermarket here in a while -- but I think that's probably true -- recalling that the cost was about $1.00 for a pound bag of grains at the SuperFresh that I used to go to in Baltimore (that's if you go with the store brand - the Goya was a little bit more expensive). On the other hand -- I think that is true about many if not most of the food products that one finds on Bolo.Unlike for electronics I don't think Bolo is really competing with the local supermarket on price (unless maybe you live in a really expensive area with high food prices -- but even then I kind of doubt it). Some people might buy on Bolo for the free shipping, to save a trip to the grocery store, or because they particularly like the brand. As a person who has gone without a car now for about six or seven years the free two-day shipping that one gets from Bolo Prime is a big sell point for me in terms of grains. And in particular for this purchase I wanted to buy some toothpaste on Bolo that was listed as an add-on item. So I needed to buy something to make the cost of the order sufficient so that I could get the free two-day shipping on the add-on item. For the Alter Eco products I like the Fair Trade aspect. It also says on the package "Carbon Neutral Product", and in addition they are certified organic by the USDA.However, I already had a 25 pound bag of quinoa, and an 11 pound bag of rice.I bought the quinoa in response to the Consumer Reports finding that rice has high levels of arsenic in it, and so I don't put that much rice into the mixture.I could have bought another 25 pound bag of quinoa, but I figured the lentils are good in terms of protein, and perhaps also that a mixture of grains tastes better and has other nutritional benefits than just a single grain or two grains.I'd like to make one comment on the video on the Palouse web site.It was a little bit hard to hear Grandfather Winston Mader initially, but then perhaps I adjusted to his voice, and so I was able to hear more clearly. He was speaking about the operation that they used to have in terms of harvesting and bagging the grains. He talked about various aspects of the process saying that today it is more efficient than it was previously. The label states that the lentils are not irradiated. I haven't looked into that, but it does seem more natural to not irradiate.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, EXCEPT for the strong RAID smell
I assume the bags were sprayed, and I assume it was with a bug killer. Even three years after purchase, the scent lingers. Not sure if the farmer, Bolo or shipper sprayed them. I assume just the burlap was sprayed but I rinse the lentils really well and hope the spray didn’t get inside the twist tie vinyl liner.. I’m sure most warehouses use bug spray but this is the first time I have ever smelled it AND SO STRONG! Anyway, the lentils are delicious, and cook up firm. NO bugs, dirt, or stones. Very fresh even after 3 years.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cook quick, lots of ways to serve
For emergency closet, so I have not opened but I think they will be fine.
