As a college student, I can confidently say that the IMUSA USA GAU-80305 Electric Single Burner is a lifesaver. When my roommate and I first moved into our apartment, we quickly realized that the stove was in desperate need of repair. We were stuck with no way to cook our meals, which was a problem since neither of us wanted to live off of takeout for the entire semester.That's when we stumbled upon this electric burner. At first, we were a bit skeptical - could something so small really cook a full meal? But we were willing to try anything at that point, so we ordered it and crossed our fingers.When the burner arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by how compact and lightweight it was. It was easy to set up and plug in, and we were ready to start cooking in no time. We decided to make pasta for our first meal, which was probably a bit ambitious for a single burner, but we were feeling optimistic.As we waited for the water to boil, we started to get a little nervous. The burner seemed to be taking longer than we expected, and we weren't sure if it was going to be able to handle the task at hand. But just as we were about to give up hope, the burner suddenly kicked into high gear and the water started boiling rapidly.We quickly added the pasta and were amazed at how well the burner was working. It cooked the pasta evenly and quickly, and we were able to make a delicious meal in no time. I am on my 4th one of these Imusa 1100 watt single burners. The longevity has gone downhill considerably over time. They all look the same, externally, but buyer beware. My previous units lasted about 7 years of thrice daily use, then 3 years, then 8 months. This is good for heating water for tea, scrambling eggs for two, some French toast, heating spaghetti sauce, making hard boiled eggs and smallish tasks. You WILL NOT be able to bring more than 3 quarts of water to boil because the max heat setting is limited and clicks on and off, preventing a steady high heat. The unit will serve you well for maybe moderate usage and then either the red pilot light will conk, but the coil will still heat, or the whole thing will just quit working without warning, probably when you need it most. Based on my and friends' recent experience, this may last you 6 months which equates to a rental of about 9 cents a day. You can decide for yourself if it's worth it. In the future, I may try a different, slightly more expensive brand.Update 3/28/2024: Once reliable brand now utter junk. New one (number 5) quit cold after 2 weeks, possibly 40 total uses tops. Will not buy this brand again!

First, it works, it does get hot. You can, if you have a half hour slow cook a hamburger or a chop with it. The problem is the thermostat. Once the coil gets to the pre-selected temperature it doesn't hold there, it simply turns the current off. There is residual heat in the coil which is why a burger in the pan will get some cooking done for awhile. However mine does not restart until all of the coil has cooled back down to about 105F. When I put a medium sized (1/2 gallon) pot of water on it and set it on High, as in to boil spaghetti or brew coffee or tea, the water in the pot never boils. As soon as the water temperature reaches 180F, the burner says, that's enough, break time. And the heating stops and the water cools. Eventually it will turn on again and run through the exact same cycle. I gave it a half hour and it never did manage to boil the pot of water. Each time the water temperature of 6 cups of water reached 180F, the burner turned off. That is very annoying (and TG I have other heat sources).You can however cook eggs on it, if you start at the low heat setting, then the instant the LED light goes out, switch it to medium, when that turns off, quickly flip your eggs and switch it to high. Your eggs should soon be ready.
