It's less messy than peanut butter. I use it in a feeder with shallow coin-shaped holes and it gets a lot of use. The Chickadees think it's tasty and the Downy Woodpeckers are especially fond of it.

I bought this in hopes that it would attract red-headed woodpeckers. It worked immediately. Old Woody is out there every morning.Con: It comes with a wooden spatula like the ones we used to use for ice cream cups. It lasts about 2 days. I have a Lodge scraper for cast iron pans and it works wonders.

I love this product but the price literally doubled in the past 6 months, went from being a great deal to now looking for alternatives.

I got this for my cedar log with holes in order to feed the woodpeckers in my neck of the woods. They love it. What I did not expect to see besides the Downy and Red Breasted Woodpeckers feeding from the cedar log were the Yellow Rumped Warblers, Carolina Chickadees, and on occasion, Tufted Titmouse. Those were a pleasant surprise. The cedar log I have contains 8 holes/cavities. I have found that one 1.75-pound of Tree Icing fills the holes 4 times with a little left over. I have also discovered that if it is not at room temp, the Tree Icing is too stiff to use easily. Also the wooden spatula is a nice touch, but I decided to dedicate one of my butter knives to do the job.
