5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line scooter for your one legged needs!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } First of all, I'd like to start by saying I deeply sympathize with anyone checking out this review due to a recent leg or foot injury. As of 3 months ago, I was unlucky and broke my left foot in not one, but two places! When the ER handed me a pair of crutches, I honestly looked at the nurse and thought to myself "there's no way I'm going to use those things and not break something else." So, several x-ray, cat scans, and a taxi ride home later, I hobble onto my couch and immediately begin to search Bolo.com for ANYTHING that would end this suffering. A miracle to find this thing called a "knee walker/scooter." I've never even heard or seen one of these before! After consulting with my *doctor, he suggested that knee scooters can be dangerous and that I would be better off in a wheelchair if I needed to walk long distances. Well, after 2 weeks of researching all of my options, I decided that the Roscoe Knee Scooter would be my best choice. Oh, how I made the right decision. Roscoe saved my summer!*Note: Doctor saw my Roscoe scooter and said he's never seen one so well made before, thus approving it!PROS:1. This scooter is SOLID. It glides like a charm and is pretty easy to use. After about an hour of trying it out around the house, it became second nature for me. Oh, and you can go fast! In fact, my family and friends beg me to slow down when I'm in public places so they can keep up.2. After using this scooter daily for 2 1/2 months now (yep, my foot is taking its full 12 weeks to recover), I can honestly say that I never once felt like I was off-balance, or unsafe.3. The brakes work well. Even on steep ramps.4. You get a lot of attention (this may be a CON depending on your personality), but I did get a lot of head turns and made some new friends while taking this scooter out on the town.5. It's small enough to fit into tight places, and most importantly, a small car trunk.6. It's light enough to be picked up by myself! However, I don't recommend doing it, but it can be done.7. It looks cool! While this seems silly to post, I have to say that having a handicap device that makes it look like you're not handicapped is worth every penny.CONS:1. Assembly is HARD. The instructions are not very helpful, but I recommend visiting the Roscoe video tutorial on YouTube. I also recommend several friends/family members to help since it would have been impossible for me to do myself.2. This is more of a safety issue and I'm not complaining, but thought a future buyer should know. The scooter has a very small turning radius. It can be frustrating when you're trying to turn a small corner, but I've learned to just pick up the wheels and move it in the direction you want to go. I'm sure this has prevented many accidents from turning too quickly.3. 2 weeks for delivery even as priority/rush order? Those 2 weeks felt like an eternity!TIPS:1. The cushion for your knee is good quality, but your knee will begin to hurt after using this for long distances. If you are using it (ex: in a mall), you may want to look into small kneepads.2. Check the brakes at least once a week. Any bicycle shop can assist with this too.3. I flew cross country with the scooter twice and it survived perfectly while in special cargo. Take the basket separately though, since I learned the hard way that it's not a durable as I would have hoped it would be.4. When going down a ramp, hold the hand brake ON and take your time. This was probably the part my doctor was worried about. It's not worth the risk to go too fast, but definitely much easier than trying to go down the same ramp with crutches.5. Stairs trick: When you need to go up or down a small step, you can move the scooter to the level you want to go to and carefully rest your knee on it. Poof, then you're on the next step without hopping.6. Good luck!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great scooter
To start off, when I was reading all kinds of knee scooter reviews, I wondered how old some people were, how tall they were, how much they weighed, etc. I’m 20, 5’6” and weigh 145lbs.I broke my ankle in 13 places in June, so at the end of September it will have been 3 months of not bearing any weight. Due to pain from my injury and surgeries, I had been stuck in bed for about a month and a half, which got pretty depressing. After being able to get up and move around, crutches were great and all but this scooter was absolutely worth the buy and a life saver. I could not decide on what brand or what scooter but for the price it’s nice. All the reviews I read about other scooters just didn’t match up to this one.I’d go with black if you don’t care for color since it’s cheaper. I needed it by a certain day and white was able to ship faster. It’s a nice quality scooter. It’s heavy enough to not feel like you’ll fall over but it is still light enough to be able to stand on one leg and be able to turn it around. The turning radius isn’t the best, so you kind of have to manouver your way around, which is why it’s good to be able to turn it around.A lot of reviews I read were about people falling over due to uneven ground or carpet. The only way you could go flying off would be if you were going way too fast or just being careless. You do have to take caution when it comes to driving this thing. Be cautious and go slow over concrete cracks and when transitioning to carpet. I haven’t fallen but that’s because I’ve been too scared to even go over a certain speed. It also does pick up speed very quickly. It’s very sturdy. Reminds me almost of a bike, with how well built it is. If you ever had a razor scooter as a kid, it’s just like that but you ride with your knee (luckily it doesn’t have to ability to swing around and whack your ankle). 😉The basket has helped me so much when getting water or food or even putting stuff in to carry around. The one break is good, although I wonder how two would’ve been. It does break really well, so if you’re going fast (you shouldn’t anyways) it will jerk you if you randomly stop. It doesn’t have a lock break so it has the ability to run away, if away from it, or on uneven ground. It runs so smoothly over laminate flooring, such as tile or wood, it’s almost satisfying.Be aware that your knee will be sore and the day after your thigh will be extremely sore, or so mine was after 2 months of not using the muscle. The fuzzy wool cover is worth paying an extra $10 for it. It made the seat a lot comfier. It’s soft and doesn’t get hot. It does shed a lot as pictured with my boot. It always sticks to the velcro! HahaI was extremely happy with this purchase. It’s a life saver from crutches and it gives you more independence.Hope this helps you make a decision!
5.0 out of 5 stars Far better than crutches
I purchased this scooter while being treated in the ER for a broken ankle - primarily due to features and short delivery time. I am terrible with crutches and saw scooters being happily used in our city. I find this to be easy to use, strong, and very adjustable to different size people. The biggest negatives are a moderately uncomfortable pad after long use and a very wide turning radius. (Make sure the right end of the pad is facing forward - it’s designed to switch around depending on which leg is injured. Also, either carefully pivot by lifting the front wheels off the ground in small steps -or- expect to do 25 point turns in tight spaces.) The wheels work reasonably well indoors and on hard surfaces. It’s not for “off road”. CONTRARY TO OTHER REVIEWS - this scooter DOES have a parking brake. You push the brake handle AWAY from the handlebar and it clicks into position. Pull it back to the handlebar to release.
