4.0 out of 5 stars Works well
Works well but requires a lot of light to use it
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, if you have equipment with big diesel engines.
This a must have for people to check their antifreeze in autos. My truck just had coolant replaced with store bought 50/50 mixture. The floating ball testers showed 2 balls to float (+5) from the leftover mixture I had in a jug. When I followed the directions on the refractometer, the mixture was at -38 degrees (50/50 mixture).
5.0 out of 5 stars super accurate. trust it with my life
use it on 4 cars about 4 -6 times a year.super accurate. trust it with my life.it is so accurate that I can tell you that in -27F weather, my antifreeze didn't freeze because this tool helped me set the coolant to -30F!should last a life time.

Awesome, works well and saves time.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is a lab instrument and feels like it: yes it costs $$ but you will get what you pay for!
Most people I've spoken to tell me "why spend this much for a glycol refractometer when you can get Chinese ones for like $20 or so?" After trying both, I found yes, the CTX-2 is expensive compared to the cheap imports, but it is a way better built tool. First off, it measures Fahrenheit, not Centigrade. Not a showstopper for anyone with a calculator, but a convenience nevertheless. Secondly, the viewfinder is VERY clear and bright with a sharp scale, something my old eyes greatly appreciate. To me, sharper and brighter than my $20 knockoff. Thirdly, it measures ethylene glycol temperatures with a resolution AND an accuracy of 2 degrees Fahrenheit. The cheap Chinese knockoffs only measure with a resolution and accuracy of 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Fourth, it comes perfectly zeroed in from the factory, but if you need to adjust calibration, it has a rotating ring around the unit that makes it EASY. And lastly, the thing feels and IS built like a tank. Look at the weight of the units and see for yourself, the CTX-2 weighs 235 grams. The Chinese knockoffs weigh less than half that, around 87 grams. The difference in weight is significant and attests to the unit build. You can feel this the minute you pick up the CTX-2, it is meant for serious professional use and comes with a 1 year warranty from Vee Gee (a US manufacturer of laboratory testing equipment) which includes the unit's accuracy.OK, so bottom line, this one works great, the cheap knockoffs also work. But if you are a professional and are looking for a unit that can take daily usage, you will be hard-pressed to find a better built analog refractometer than the Vee Gee line. About the only other one that I found which is in the same ball park is the Reichert Duo-Chek, which costs more.

GLYCOL TESTER
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Worked well. It helps me to determine the temp rating for the coolant my home boiler system that also has an underground run to my garage. We get some very low temps. in the winter. The only problem I found was that the eye piece is not functional when wearing glasses. You would need someone without glasses to do the reading.
