I’ve been perming my own hair for many years - several years on top of bleach blond balayage, but I wait at least 2-3 months in between each. Was using another perm that’s been discontinued and found this for “color-treated” - not bleached hair. I did do test curls since new to me. I have always conditioned my hair before perming (this one comes with pre-perm conditioner - Yay!) and slightly dilute the curl lotion with filtered water. Super happy with the results!

I've always trusted these perms due to the fact that I have thin hair and it offers an opportunity to have a little volume without burning my hair. I haven't even taken it out the box but I look forward to doing so and I trust after all these years that the quality of the perm will suffice.

My 9-year-old wanted curly hair like Patrick Mahomes for Halloween, so we decided to try a perm. Our first attempt was with a different kit, and while it had everything I remembered (including the bad smell), it didn't include the curling papers. We bought some separately, but they were too thick, and the result was only semi-curly hair.Three weeks later, I purchased the Ogilvie Home Perm Kit. It brought back memories of my childhood home hair salon days, but this kit stood out for its easy-to-follow instructions. The process was straightforward, and the results were fantastic—my son's hair came out perfectly curly and looked great.I'm thrilled with the Ogilvie kit and will continue to buy it for any future perming needs. DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT! The first box in the photo is what I ordered, the second box is what I got. OK, so I figured maybe they changed the box. The thought did cross my mind that maybe this was just a really old perm that they had around for years and years and just sent me to get rid of it but I went ahead and tried it anyway. I am very experienced at perming my own hair. I have been doing it for years and years so that was not the problem. I should’ve known better from looking at the box. I ordered two boxes. I permed my whole head with the first box. Went through the whole process, hours of work. My hair was perfectly straight afterwards. SO I thought well I’ve got a second box I’ll give it a second try. So 2 days later I re-permed my whole head over again, with smaller rollers, thinking maybe that would help and once again it was a huge waste of time. My hair was again perfectly straight. So don’t order this. They will send you some old crap that is no longer any good and will not work on your hair.

It's an okay product.My hair takes perms easily, so I left the product in for the least amount of time suggested and still got some frizzing. The pre- and post-conditioning probably helped to minimize this though.I had noticed in another review, however, that others complained about the drip guard being missing from the box. I specifically reread the product description before purchasing and it said the product comes with a drip guard. The box that I received also said it contained a drip guard. It did not. So I just worked carefully and used a lot of towels to catch the drips. Whether I was able to do a work-around, though, is not relevant to the point that the box does not contain a drip guard even though the online description and the box description clearly state that it does.

I have fine, thin hair, so perming my hair can be fatal to my hair. I've had quite a few perms in my life. Some done professionally and some home perms. Almost ALL of them were terrible. They ended up a frizz, no nice curl at all and my hair ended up fried, breaking off etc. I have used this product twice now. There is no itching, no burning at all. I've watched a YouTube video about proper rolling technique for spirals. I've been using biotin for a few months now which helped my hair growth IMMENSELY therefore I could do a spiral. The perm turned out exactly they way that I wanted. I love it. It will not last as long as the stronger ones but that's fine with me. I would rather have a soft, non-damaging perm that I have to redo every three months than an scalp eating one that leaves me with broken off hair and frizz. Ladies, PLEASE sleep on a satin pillow. I thought that it was nonsense when I read that this is best for your hair. Let me tell you. Sleeping on a satin pillow will leave your hair smooth, shiny, bouncy and you won't wake up with a birds nest on top of your head. It was a game changer for me. Also, you're not supposed to wash your hair for the first 48 hrs after the perm (all ladies know this) So, when you get up in the morning, just spritz your hair with water from a spray bottle and you're good to go. I recommend this product and will order more just to have it on hand.

This worked very well on thin, grey, elderly hair. Hair stayed soft and didn't burn hair or skin.
