I have tried Claritan, Seldane went off the market), Zyrtec, Benedryl and a host of old time antihistamines.Claritan did absolutely nothing with my heavy ragweed allergy. I loved Seldane but it no longer exists. Zyrtec puts me right to sleep for 24 hours. Benedryl knocks me out for about 16 hours. ALLEGRA! WORKS! It really helps me during Ragweed season. I do not feel drowsy. Sometimes I feel a bit dizzy but it is not severe or constant. I highly recommend this product. Try it--I think you have to see how it affects you. As you can see I have a very severe response to medicine most people can take--Zytrec for example. So I think I am a good guinea pig to see if it really causes drowsiness.

I've been taking prescription Allegra for at least 10 years now. It is the best allergy medication out of all of them.First off because I have thyroid disease, most antihistimines make me tired or put me to sleep. Allegra is the only one that does not. Clariton makes me very tired and Zyrtac puts me to sleep. I actually use Benedril as a sleep aid. But, if I want to be fully awake and functional, it's Allegra for me.Secondly, I'm allergic to most plants. During the spring and fall, especially when the wind blows I desparately need daily antihistimines. I usually cut the 180 mg in half on days when my allergies aren't so bad and use the full doze when it hits hard.Thirdly, I've also used Allegra to dry up swimmer's ear.Fourthly, my skin can become inflammed and itch like it's on fire when I come in direct contact with an allergin like dust mites or raw wood. Allegra calms down the inflammation and eases the itching. Nothing works better.Fifth, it's a great antihistimine for colds. It dries up the sniffles and you won't fall asleep. So, if you have to go to work you won't feel lousy if you take Allegra.I'm so happy that Allegra is now over the counter. It was $80 for a 30 day supply when it was prescription only. So, this is a great buy.
