5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit and function
About 6 months ago I used this pressure balance valve to repair my Grohe shower faucet, that was about 25 years old. I'm happy to say that it was perfect fit, and it functions like new. Is ~$100 worth it? I'd say absolutely--yes. I'm giving it 5 starts all around because if it had not worked, I was facing an expensive project of installing a whole new faucet system. The part itself looks well made, and identical in size & shape to the old valve. The old valve was totally ruined, with bits of broken plastic inside, and there was no change for repair (I did take it apart to check). It looked like the valve failed just from the age of the internal plastic parts. As for installation, I studied videos on YouTube which helped a lot. I'd say that if you are mechanically inclined, logical and a bit patient, you can install it yourself. Physically, it installed with little effort, but it was a but tricky adjusting it to get the full range of temperature control. I hope these comments help you.
1.0 out of 5 stars A valve that wont last
I bought this just 20 months ago, easy to instal and seemed great, now it is stripped again. Who ever makes this must be making a lot of money when it wont last longer than 20 months. The mechanism is truly flawed, it has metal parts working against plastic, and now the plastic is shredded.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect replacement part
Just what I needed to fix a leaky shower faucet. Not sure if the replacement part was OEM or not because the new part was made in Taiwan and the original part was made in Canada. But there was no 3rd party manufacturer name anywhere as far as I could tell. Also no paperwork with the new part, but it did come with 3 o-rings and some silicone grease. It was a perfect fit, quick replacement job, and works perfectly, which is all that matters to me. Shipping was much faster than advertised on Bolo, which was a bonus.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product.
I had a slow leak from my shower head as many other people here. Just installed this cartridge today. It fixed my problem and I am very happy. I have find that valves that sit on each side for hot and cold water had bad rubber seals. Pieces of it went into the cartridge and probably caused it not to block water flow correctly. Also I could feel some resistance while turning shower handle. With everything clean and new washers on valves my shower works perfect now. Water pressure is much stronger and handle turns with ease. Since I strongly feel that my problem was due to foreign objects in the cartridge I could probably try to assemble everything with original cartridge and see what would happen, but since I already purchased the replacement part I just used it. Also, I want to mention here what a great experience in had with Grohe USA customer service. I purchased a house with system already in place and could not identify the part I needed. Local authorized dealers were totally useless since my system was 20 years old and no longer sold by them which led me to contact Grohe directly by sending them pictures of my shower. Not only they identify the system but also provided me with manual and installation instruction as well as parts reference table. All emails were always answered promptly. Recommend this part to all Grohe owners.
4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
Perfect fit, perfect replacement shower cartridge. Easy to install. Instructions and a small packet of silicone lubricant for the o-rings was included, a plus!
1.0 out of 5 stars weak and breaks easily
I'm one of those people who rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to inform others that this is a very WEAK product. I've ordered two of these valves over the last 3 years, and both have broken. Needless to say, very disappointing. I am now looking for a steel version of this because the plastic is cheap and flimsy. Grohe– do better!
3.0 out of 5 stars O Rings Round Trouble
Unless your Grohe 35000 series valve is really old and won't turn properly or operates rough, the leaks can be stopped with new o-rings. Same with the Tempress II's. Even if the valve is replaced, and this is a replacement valve, there are sleeves and o-rings in the housing that are not replaced by changing the valve, and those can cause leaks also. The large O ring behind the cover plate is a 2" ID 2 1/8" OD 1/16" width. It's a Buna-N 70A No 033 O-ring. They cost a dime, but you'll likely have to buy 25 of them for $2.50. Grohe wants you to pay them $50 for an entire valve body when the leaking from the middle of the housing is caused by a bad O-ring. And they don't sell the O-rings! They won't even tell you what O-ring it is. Thanks Grohe.Home Depot doesn't carry these large O-Rings either. You'll have to find them on line or buy them at a plumbing supply house--if they carry them. Often you can find the right ID/OD but the O ring is thicker. Do Not Make the Mistake of using an O ring that is thicker than 1/16". If you use a thicker O ring, the housing won't seat properly. If the leaking is coming from the brass body of the valve, then this O ring is the problem. On the valve, the two smaller O-rings on each side the valve look like #209 O-rings I believe--Home Depot has those. But O-ring numbering isn't consistent from company to company so bring the O-rings with you to be sure you get the right ones. And again, not only does the OD have to be the same but so does the thickness. An O ring that is 1/32 smaller will still leak. If the O rings on the left and right side of the valve are the wrong size or thickness, then the shower head will drip. For Grohe valves, there's also an O-ring on the shaft and one inside the nylon body that the shaft goes through on front brass plate. I didn't measure those. But they are common sizes so they be found at home improvement stores also. The nylon bearing has to be taped out from the front of the housing in order to change the inside O ring. That O ring is important so don't overlook changing it. Tap the nylon bearing out slowly, taping a little all the way around. You'll have to insert a screw driver or a flat tap into the valve shaft to reach the nylon bearing, so take your time. If that bearing gets messed up, you'll have to buy a whole new valve body. If the leak is coming down the valve shaft, then it's because of these two O rings.Anytime one of these valves that has been installed for a few years is taken apart, all of these O rings should be replaced. The O rings should be lubricated before installing them. A good silicone lube is the best. Some petroleum based greases cause O rings to fail. The lube helps the ring stay in place when it's being installed and to seat properly.New valves can also leak because of an O ring's failure to seat. You just have to work with the O rings until they are all correctly seated and positioned. I had to replace side o-rings in brand new valves before they would seal properly. Not everything is plug and play with these valves.

Grohe 47080000 Pressure Balance Cartridge
The most difficult task associated with the purchase of this cartridge was figuring out which model I required. In my case the fixture was manufactured by a small company with no web site, and the only information I had to work with was the name "Tempress II" on the brass valve body. Information provided on the Tempress web site indicates there are two versions of the "Tempress II" - the more common "TII", and the less common "TIIEF". These two versions use different cartridge styles, and the main distinguishing feature is that the "TII" cartridge has two small pegs on the rear of the cartridge, whereas the "TIIEF" cartridge has two small "wings" on the sides of the cartridge next to the water inlet ports. The cartridge does have a part number molded on its body (which many reviewers here have provided) but that is of little help, since there seem to have been many part numbers assigned to this same part during its manufacturing lifetime. Suffice it to say that if you have a Tempress II valve body, and you are looking for the "TII" cartridge, then Grohe 47080000 is what you need. If you are looking for the "TIIEF" cartridge, then Grohe 47157000 is what you need. There is a very helpful review previously posted here which points out "leaky valve" problems that will not be fixed by installing a new cartridge, specifically (a) water leaking around the shaft of the cartridge where it exits the brass valve body or (b) water leaking from around the sides of the brass valve body. These problems require other fixes, which that reviewer has described in detail. The most common problem people need to fix is that the shower faucet continues to run after being turned to its full "off" position - and replacing the cartridge will solve that problem.Installing this replacement cartridge is straight forward. During installation be sure to (a) apply silicone grease provided with this product to the o-rings on the sides of the cartridge, (b) replace the large o-ring behind the brass cover of the valve body with the new o-ring provided and apply silicone grease, and (c) apply silicone grease to the cartridge shaft where it passes through the brass cover of the valve body.
GROHE product
I had leaky shower head problem so I googled then found this GROHE replacement. Works well with my GROHE shower valve. No more leaking. Should have bought this three years ago instead of calling plumber to fix another show head in my house. The installation steps are exactly same as Youtube video described. Perfect DIY project for handy home owner. The only thing I noticed was the water flow from the shower head was slower than the original one. Not sure if the Cartridge is slight different design causing that.
it leaks from the middle
waste of money. it started leaking after one week.
Excellent
It was extremely complicated to find it at traditional plumbers - sadly - but again… Bolo got it. Worked perfectly . Extremely pleased .
