The backbone is stiff but fans sufficiently and without irritating the face. For its size, this is a superb brush of great design. To work any better, it would have to be bigger, but that would defeat its travel purpose. This is not a daily driver, though it serves well as a travel brush. In spite of its price, which is a bit dear, it is still a very good value. I really love the fact that when in its compact travel configuration, the entirety of the base of the handle/tube is open for drying. I like this brush.

I have bought several Simpson brushes over the years. I have always loved them. This is a particularly trace set up, but the problem is that the shedding of hairs has made it totally useless. I wanted to use it. But I can’t. I threw the brush out and use a cheap substitute for travel, Not as good, but it does not continually fall apart.

If you are in to the utmost in high quality shaving, you owe it to yourself to have one of these in your stable. Since 1919 these handcrafted shaving brushes have been made in England on the Isle of Man. The perfect brush for traveling, this fine brush has just the right stiffness, feel, and tucks away nicely into your baggage. The story about it being made for a major is actually quite a yarn. It was only a sales ploy many, many years ago. If you think about it, who in the name of Winston Churchill is going to be shaving whilst climbing that bloody mountain in the first place? Don’t let the story keep you away from this wonderful hand crafted shaving brush. A must have for the shaving man on the go.

Works great. Indispencable form factor for traveling. Despite proper care started shedding after a little over 2 months of once a week use. Not sure if it can get resolved. Will update this review if something changes. Really bummed that the quality looks iffy for that price.

I love this brush! It's soft, portable, and high quality. A very nice companion to my travel essentials, this is similar to my other Simpson brushes in quality and overall shaving experience. I did, at one point, keep it in the storage "position," which was a problem, as a strange green something (I could only assume it was a kind of mold or something) started forming near the base of the bristles. A short dip in some boiling water too care of the problem, and I now keep it "open" to keep the problem from happening again. Have recommended the brush to several friends, all of which have been pleased.

This is really a nice brush. It is quite small, but it is significantly more dense than more expensive ones from Art of Shaving. I wish it were bigger for daily use, but it is perfect for travel.
