My husband is Japanese. He was born in Nagasaki and raised in Tokyo. Mochi is very important in our home. With that said...we purchased these at the last minute after we decided to enjoy a lovely dinner outside under the full moon (Harvest Moon). Asians eat “moon cakes”. They arrived the afternoon of the day we needed them, which was perfect. They were very fresh and delicious. There are three different styles in the box. The red bean mochi was my favorite. Soft white on the outside, slightly chewy. The other flavors are a peanut butter, but with more of a delicate flavor than what you’d think as peanut butter, and sesame flavor. The sesame was our least favorite, because it’s not as sweet.We both ate one of each cake, but the next day I notice there were 2 more missing from the box. When I mentioned it to my husband he actually thought he could get away with blaming it on our cat! LOL! (Uh no! The cat can’t open the refrigerator and reach the top shelf) I should know better than having an open box of mochi in the house with him. We plan to serve the remainder at dinner with friends this weekend.I highly recommend you buy these. The only thing I saw that could be improved was the presentation. For something so delicious it could be packaged prettier.

I think mochi is an acquired taste. The red bean was by far my favorite as it was slightly sweet and went well with tea, but for those that have never tried it they might want to start with the peanut since it would probably be a familiar taste (or so my mother said when she tried it). I wasn't a fan of the peanut butter, but I think its because of my personal preference versus it being of bad quality. My little brother liked them and he's a picky eater. The sesame wasn't bad, but it was a bit strange. The paste was grainy as some of the reviews said, but I would think that since it was made out of ground black sesame seeds that it would be expected. It was interesting, but I wouldn't buy that flavor again.Seeing as the rating was a bit lower than what I was looking for I read through most of the other reviews first. I ordered mine around New Year's which might have affected the quality. They didn't have a new shipment till the third of January which was fine considering some of the accounts of the product coming in stale or moldy. A new shipment should be fresh after all. The weather here keep them cool which might have helped. They came in good condition and were wonderful. I would definitely buy from them again.

I've never had this before so I'm not quite sure how it is supposed to taste. I chose to buy this because it was the cheapest one that I came across at the time, I don't know if that affects the quality of the product but here is my personal experience with this product. This will be a long post so bare with me. Your experience may differ.To start out, I read everything I could about this particular product, the good and the bad and the one thing everyone said more than anything was that the peanut confectionary was very pungent, and I thought 'I love peanut butter, so that wont really be a problem.' so I bought them.Regular/Red paste: Ok in flavor, a little grainy. Not disgusting but certainty not appetizing.Brown/Peanut butter: Little to no peanut butter taste or smell. Not pungent at all and just not good.Sesame seed/Black paste: A lot of seeds. I couldn't really taste the paste inside. Over all a dull smoky flavor.They all had: A spongy texture and complete bland flavor.To be fair, the peanut butter smell was on the box after I opened it but only for a minute or two and the package itself wasn't peanut butter smelling either, the confectionary didn't even have that much of a scent.I think that perhaps, living in America, I've been surrounded by a large quantity of rather overly sweet foods and snacks so perhaps my tasting is a bit sewed on this which could reason why they tasted dull. I realize that this is the Japanese style confectionary made in Taiwan so this may have something to do with the taste also, aside from the fact that I've never had much, if anything, like this.The confectionary in general seemed a bit like it had been frozen, a cool and thick paste, nothing like the spilling, more runny look on the box. This I can understand for shipping reasons, otherwise it would be rotten, so nothing wrong there. I thought I would leave them out a bit, to soften up but it didn't really work, so I thought I would put them in the microwave, to heat them a bit. (HUGE mistake on my part, I have no patience at all!!) Long story short: 20sec is too long and will melt everything, making these, if it's even possible, way more inedible than they were previously.To wrap this up, I would say that this is a one time buy for me but certainly worth the experience. It seems like a lot of people love this so don't be discouraged on buying them just yet. This wasn't something I was totally into but it was worth the money to find out.

If you like your mochi, this is definitely not it. This was dry and firm. Tasted old. So bad we actually spit it out. Save your time and money, do not purchase this mochi. You'll be so disappointed if you do.
