I build furniture and builtin cabinets. I use Cherry, Hard Maple, Walnut and other hardwoods. Almost all of my lumber comes from a saw mill so I use this planer both for roughing down, and for final thickness. I had a 12" Delta for about 20 years, and this DEWALT is superior in every way. Its not that the Delta performed poorly, Just that the DEWALT is much better. Here are the positives and limitations in my experience:1. Three blade cutter is fast, and leaves a very smooth finish. Minimal sanding needed before finishing (220 & 320 grit with a clear finish) when using the slower feed rate.2. Motor is 120V, but very powerful. Even in full width planing of hardwoods, it does not bog down.3. Dust collection is very efficient when hooked up to my 4" shop DC. The planer has a builtin fan that blows chips out the chute even when not hooked up to DC. This prevents chips from getting crushed into the wood when it goes under the feed roller. There are none of the annoying little crushed chip marks that require extra work to get the wood surface ready to finish. (By the way, if you do not hook up a DC, and just let the chips blowout of the dust port, you'll have a trail of chips 10'-15' away from the planer! This little puppy BLOWS!)4. I get no detectable snipe even when planing long boards, as long as I support the out-feed end. This model includes the extension in-feed and out-feed tables. I did not expect these to be enough to prevent snipe, but they work great.5. Comes with an extra set of knives.6. Machine weighs a little under 100 lbs. It can be moved fairly easily (even by an old fart who's not as strong as he once was) but still has enough mass to be stable when planing larger boards.7. Thickness and depth of cut adjustments are easy and accurate.8. Overall build quality is excellent.9. Not cheap of course, but well worth the money if you are doing enough work.Limitations:1. The machine is fairly noisy. IMHO good hearing protection is an absolute must.2. There is an aftermarket spiral, individual carbide cutter head available (about $300 at Grizzly). I wish that was an option on this model when new, rather than as an aftermarket item. It would be a big advantage for those of us who have a higher workload for the machine.Overall, I am very satisfied with this machine.

This planer is amazing. I had a Delta 22-540 prior to this and the Dewalt was a HUGE upgrade. This planer has virtually no snipe. It works great on figured wood. I love the cut depth gauge, the outfeed tables, the two speeds. Its just a great planer.EDIT: I wanted to expand upon my previous review as I'm now in front of a computer and not on a cell-phone.I've had the Dewalt DW735X for about a month, and I've had the opportunity to plane oak, pine, and poplar. Most of it from rough sawn lumber.For the positives: it is easy to setup. It weighs a ton, but most planers do. I put it on a home-built stand, and it works just fine. The infeed/outfeed tables fold up, and they work great. There's no need to add your own tables. I use an outfeed stand if I'm planing really long stock. There's virtually no snipe, or at least nothing that a little sanding won't take care of. Compared to the 20-year old Delta planer I had before, which would take giant gouges out of the ends of the board, the Dewalt is perfect. There is also very little tearout, even against the grain or around knots. Even with new blades on the Delta, I still had significant tearout. The Delta planer still did a great job, doing things I would've been doing by hand or not be able to do, but the Dewalt still does a much better job.For the negatives: There really aren't any, this really is a 5-star product. But I feel required to list the cons, as some people really want to read this stuff. The dust port is directly above the outfeed table, in the middle. You just need to snake a dust collection hose from the side and above to make sure it doesn't interfere with the exiting of the wood. I'm also not sure you would ever want to run the planer without dust collection. The hose fell off once, and my entire shop was covered in statically charged wood shavings. Also, you may feel your innards rattling when the planer is running. I felt literally felt the air in my lungs vibrating when I turned it on.All in all, it's great. It's pricey, but definitely worth it.

I've had a 12" planer for 30 years and decided that my son could use it; and I needed a new one. After some research I chose the DeWalt 13" planer. Since my son only planes very occasionally, this worked out well.The DeWalt, with the 3 blades and the two speeds is perfect for me. I am a wood turner and most often construct blocks for turning rather than turning natural chunks. This requires wood slabs to be planned, sanded and glued. Though all power planers can cause some snipe, I find that with this machine, I can control it much more easily. I use a drum sander to touch up any snipe. The wood surface is smoother than I can ever remember with my 2 blade planer (even with new blades) and with less chipping. Also... I really appreciate that it came with an extra set of blades. This is one of the best replacement machines that I have ever purchased.The controls are great and basically... I like everything about this bench top planer.
Excelente herramienta
Tardo un poco en llegar, poco más de un mes. Es bastante pesada, se debe cargar entre 2 personas. Al abrir la caja, la maquina tenía una abolladura en la base de aluminio, y en la caja de cartón se notaba el golpe, no se si llegó así a mi casa, o le pegue yo, pero afortunadamente ese golpe no afecta en nada su desempeño. Es una maquina que te da gusto ver, de esas de las que te sientes orgulloso de tener, y trabaja muy, muy bien. Espero que me dure muchos años, ya solo me falta la canteadora, para obtener maderas completamente a escuadra. Lástima que en este modelo no se incluyen los accesorios de extensión y los tendré que comprar por separado, pero fuera de eso, 10/10.
This thing is a beast!!!
Absolutely the best bench top thickness planet on the market. It’ll chew through pretty well anything with ease. The blades do a great job right out of the box. I also got the infeed/outfeed tables, and they’re easy to put on and work great. I’d like to see how it does with a helical cutter head, they’re supposed to be quieter(this is loud!). But they cost as much as the planer in some cases.

La marca es buena el equipo cumple su funcion ademas de tener la posibilidad de actualizar las cuchillas a un nuevo diseño; el vendedor cumplio con su responsabilidad.LO unico malo fue la paqueteria por la cual fue entregado al domicilio (UPS), son pesimos a la hora de entregar y nada honestos en sus comentarios. Bolo busquen una mejor logista para sus entregas, esto no les da una buena razon para habalr bien de ustedes mismos.
