5.0 out of 5 stars Non slip Oil Filter Wrench
The original 3” inch oil filter on my relatively new car was exceptionally tight. The filter is also not very accessible. I couldn’t budge it with a crown or cap type wrench that I have had in my tool box for years. The wrench didn’t fit tightly enough and it slipped as I increased the force needed to turn the filter. I then bought filter/PVC pipe pliers that is described (Bolo) as suitable for small oil filters. I thought it would fit between the pipes near the filter. However, I couldn’t apply the necessary turning force without gripping the filter so tightly that it began to crush. In the past I’ve had the best success with strap type filter wrenches. So I then purchased this wrench (also from Bolo). It seems well designed and made. The gripping surface is metal with some abrasion points that provide for a non-slip grip on the filter. This was essential in my case, because I had to apply such a large force to break the filter loose. The wrench also has a feature that allows the handle to be offset. I found this to be very useful for avoiding the various obstructions. I am very pleased with the performance of this wrench in this exceptionally difficult application.I rated the wrench 5 stars for ease of use, but this is not an easy task. I rated it 5 stars for durability, but I haven't used it long enough to say how long it will last. However, based on its design and my experience with similar items I expect it will last as long as I'll ever need it.

This is perfect for mid to smaller oil filters you can also buy a larger version. Grips tight with no slippage. Well made and simple to use. Very happy with this.

Quality item as expected from Lisle. This filter wrench was used to remove a Mercury Optimax engine fuel filter in a VERY TIGHT space. I broke my strap wrench trying to remove the filter. The next try was to disassemble the port side of the engine fuel system which would take several hours to disassemble/assemble. This filter wrench allowed me to remove (and reinstall) the filter in about 10 minutes. Wow, almost as labor saving as the wheel and the inclined plane have been to mankind. Highly recommend these wrenches. Note: be sure to measure the filter diameter to buy the correct size.

Probably should have checked the dimensions more carefully. This didn't work for the OEM filter on my Pathfinder or the Pennzoil HPZ-37 Platinum I replaced it with. It was slightly too big. I did get creative (well, my wife did...) and was able to modify it with some tape and rubber "rug-grip", and that did the trick. Seems like a very nicely made wrench and my rating reflects this, rather than my not checking properly first.

This particular size is quite frankly SUPERIOR to next smaller size DOWN where the manufacturer decided to save a half a cent by using a 1/2" band. You will have ZERO issues getting ANY filter out that might be more tight than one would like with THIS model I am reviewing that has the 1" band. You will NOT be disappointed. Just as an aside, my Fram filter XG4967 is: ~2.7" in diameter and this wrench grips hold of it with a PHENOMENAL grip and I am VERY PLEASED.

Nice rubber on the handle which makes it a bit easier to use. Works well and a nice upgrade to the one I had for twenty or so years… would buy again.
Excellent device
I had to replace my old one and this was the Only one I found to do the job. The adjustable handle makes it more adaptable than my old one. For the small diameter subaru oil filter I had to put a rag round the filter canister to prevent it from slipping.It works like a charm

Great up to a car sized oil filter
Great filter wrench, had it about a year now and it comes in handy doing oil changes on my ride on mower, atv, street bike&car!On my truck the wrench is too small for the oil filter tho, so beware, a car is basically absolutely the max size as it barely fits, but works very well!
