One of the first polymers ever created, cellulose nitrate is made by reacting cotton fibers with nitric acid. Cellulloid was substituted for natural toroise shell picks in the early 1900s and is still one of the most popular pick materials available today. They are available in a wide variety of thicknesses, shapes, and colors, and provide a natural feel and warm, fat tone.

D'Addario/Planet Waves Guitar Picks
Guitar picks may seem like a simple tool but with varying materials, shapes and colors to choose from, D'Addario/Planet Waves has made it easier than ever to help you find the right pick for your playing style. The following guide will help you differentiate between varying shapes, materials and tonal characteristics.Pick Shape:
D'Addario/Planet Waves offers three different pick shapes, each having their own advantages: Standard - Perfect for picking or strumming, the standard shape is by far the most popular as it offers enough area for a firm grip but also has more defined tip for good note articulation. Many players also turn the pick around and use the rounder edge for a softer attack and warmer tone. Wide - Wide picks are easy to hold and offer multiple picking areas by simply rotating the pick as one edge begins to wear. Jazz - Jazz shaped picks like our are the ultimate for pick control and articulation. The small size and sharp shaped tip allows the pick to have a fast response and bright tone with excellent note definition. This pick is a favorite among jazz, progressive rock and metal guitarists.Pick Material & Tone:
Try this experiment. Take some picks of different material and drop them onto a counter top. Notice how they all sound different when they hit the counter. The same rules apply when they strike a string as well. The material and thickness that your pick is made out of can have a dramatic effect on your overall tone.- Celluloid is one of the most popular guitar pick materials today. Available in a wide variety of shapes, colors and thicknesses, celluloid is known for providing a natural feel and warm, fat tone. A man-made material, celluloid was first introduced in the early 1900's as a substitute for natural tortoise shell picks. Our are a top-selling choice. - Duralin is a unique material with an extraordinary combination of strength, stiffness, dimensional stability, fatigue resistance and low friction. Normally used as a replacement for metal bushings and bearings in industrial applications, this extremely durable polymer is ideal for picks. Duralin picks are known for their bright clicking sound when hitting strings and are preferred by many soloists for their clear articulation on fast single note passages. - Cortex picks are precision molded to eliminate grain structures, allowing for dynamic pick response. This unique material closely resembles actual tortoise shell in feel and sound yet offers high strength, durability and heat resistance. Cortex long lasting picks offer excellent attack with a clean, crisp tone for superior note definition, allowing notes to leap from your strings. Attack, control, clarity and durability...Cortex Picks! - Inspired by the revered nylon picks of the 50's and 60's, the D'Addario/Planet Waves Nyflex is the first nylon pick to capture the flexible feel, warm tone and molded grip pattern of the original, delivering an authentic, vintage playing experience in its entirety. Now you can finally experience the feel and tone that was so eagerly sought out by now Hall of Fame guitarist during the birth of rock-n-roll. Nylflex, the modern pick for vintage tone! - D'Addario/Planet Waves puts a new twist on celluloid picks. Now you can still have the natural feel and warm fat tone of celluloid in a "glow in the dark" pick. Simply pre-charge the picks in natural sunlight or under a light bulb and you have a pick that not only sounds great but looks great too. The Cellu-Glo picks add a new visual element to your playing and are also easy to find on dark stages.
Experiment and have fun with the tonal variations that can be achieved by simply changing your pick. In fact, many guitarists and studio musicians will use different materials depending the guitar and style that they are playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast delivery
Not much to say here. Great price fast delivery works like it should. Wish that was the case for all my orders.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Picks. Even Got a Bonus One!
These D'Addario celluloid picks are just right, comfortable to hold, great looking, not too thick or thin, and they give off a nice warm tone when playing. The medium gauge works great for both strumming and picking. I was surprised (in a good way) to find 26 picks in the pack instead of 25, thanks to the seller for that little extra! No complaints at all, just a solid, reliable pack of picks.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Medium Prick
Couldn't have picked a better pick. Reasonable price for the package of pricks. Mediums.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Picks!
Okay, I just ordered a new guitar (Fender FA-100 Dreadnought Acoustic Sunburst) and the guitar package only came with a gig bag, and I need picks. Now while it is true that you don't need a pick to play guitar and in fact, finger picking actually can give you some better sounds, but, I knew I still wanted some picks because I am not a finger picker. So when I bought this cheap brand made picks, I was really amazed!First off, really fast shipping. It claimed to be delivered by Tuesday, Feb 25 to Friday, Feb 28. While it came in today on 2/22/14! That was really fast. Another thing I liked were how the picks looked and feel. These picks may be at a cheap price, but they are really made with quality. It has a plasticy, but NICE feel to them and the different colors in the Pearl texture look great! What more can I say? They're picks, they're cheap, and once my guitar gets on (Monday, Feb 24), I'm sure it will serve its purpose. Also, these things are not easy to lose either since they stick out a lot if you drop one on the ground in your house, street, ETC. and the colors are really a great addition. And hey, if you do manage to lose one, then you still have 9 more to use!So get these picks today, they are awesome and they are the cheapest you can find!
5.0 out of 5 stars Best All Around Mediums
They are great as an all around beginner or pro pick. Of course, different thicknesses suit different styles. That being said, I find that these break and split less often. I have found that newer composition picks last longer than the old Fender picks. (Sorry Fender, not really) Perhaps they've changed but these last at least 50 -100% longer. I like new picks. I don't like splitting mine mid song and having to fudge while I pick up another pick. You all know that feeling. It's rare to see that happen with these. It's not impossible but it's rare. It's also noteworthy to mention that as you get small nicks in them, smooth them out with a piece of 800 grit sand paper. That will avoid premature ripping them and prolong the pick life. Eventually they get too small and you throw them out...
5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for the (potentially) no-longer 100% celluloid Fender 351
After reading somewhere that Fender stopped using pure celluloid in their 351 style picks (which, in medium, is my favorite guitar pick), I began checking out other companies' celluloid 351's. These, and the D'Andrea 351's (D'Andrea was rumored to have actually manufactured Fender's 351's for years) are a perfect replacement. Celluloid has a certain "give" when you hit the strings and it's one of those things you do as a guitarist, finding your own personal balance between the give of the pick versus breakage of strings, and the tone variations that come with different picks and strings. I prefer the give of a medium 351 celluloid. And celluloid smells a certain way when it gets warm (from the friction of playing with a celluloid pick), which is a strong sense memory of my early days learning guitar. Now, the Fender 351's don't break or crack the way they used to when they were pure celluloid, but we no longer live in a world where your only source for picks was the creepy fat guy who ran the only local music store and sold picks for $0.99 each. More outlets and more choices means lower prices, and you're no longer ever in that situation where you're down to your last pick and can't buy more until you get paid again. I'd rather break a few more picks to get that feeling I prefer. The only thing I wish D'Addario would do is sell these buy the gross in one color. I'd much rather buy more at once, and of the same color. But these picks are so good I'll likely buy them no matter what.
