I like to use the powdered version only to cut back on the amount of pills I take. I do not use pharmaceuticals. If I can get a supplement to do the trick I will. I use L-Ornithine for a more restful sleep though it has so many more uses, Kidney cleaning/efficiency, athletics etc.

This amino acid gets grouped together with l-arginine for HGH production, but it is a wonderful, natural sleep aid on its own. L-ornithine helps you stay asleep by transporting ammonia out of your brain. If you drink alcohol or have less-than-desirable dietary habits, your body naturally produces ammonia as a by-product and is able to get rid of it through the digestive process - except for in the brain. The brain has trouble getting rid of excess ammonia. And when your brain is imbalanced, you don't sleep well.I've used this brand for years and prefer powder over capsules for quick absorption. Don't group this with l-arginine, which can be stimulating to some people. You only need .5 tsp at night (about a half hour before bed). Take it on an empty stomach with nothing but water. This product has an impressive shelf life, about two years, and the bottle will last you a long time. It's a great value and something I can't live without. The added HGH and health benefits are just the icing on the cake.

Let me start with L Ornithine is a great product and source naturals is a fantastic brand. However, buying a product of theirs on Bolo from what shows me VitaminLife sold and shipped it to me - has a usage date of within the next couple months - not so much. There’s no secret that products lose their effectiveness as time passes and they sit on a shelf even if unopened. Most nutrition companies will discount them knowing they’re short dated don’t want to have to know loss them against their inventory and bottom line. If taken as directed, it’ll be expired before I consume all of the servings. Short dated products should be disclosed and generally reduced because of that. Also bothered that the listing says they accept returns then you go to try and do so and it says it’s not eligible for returns. Not trying to be salty but whatever.

I read in a book by Hulda Clark that one of the side effects of taking powerful tinctures like Olive Leaf Glycerite and Green hulls of Walnut to rid yourself of parasites , fungal and yeast issues is sleeplessness which I did experience when I first experimented with both. She suggested that ammonia is one of the by products of the kill off and that sleeplessness can result as the brain has difficulty throwing off the ammonia. She suggested L- Ornitine as a solution.Our bodies are so different. I'm glad when others can use this and don't know why I had problems but let me say this. For 2 days I took the recommended 1/2 teaspoon about 30 minutes before bedtime. I slept beautifully with very pleasant creative dreams. I slept so well I was thrilled. However 3 things happened on day one. First my feet swelled and second, although I wasn't groggy, I didn't get anything done. I had little energy. Third my skin, sheets etc smelled not like ammonia but an unpleasant odor.On the 3rd day I took 1/4 of a teaspoon to see if I could continue to take this and enjoy it's positive effects. Some response - swollen feet, odd odor, lethargic on a very subtle level.So on the 4th day which was 2 nights ago I didn't take it. I slept well, not as well as when I was taking it but well. My dreams were more normal for me. My feet didn't swell as much - it's summer so they still swelled a bit especially if I sat too long, no odor, my normal energy. Last night same thing. Back to normal.I have a whole bottle of this powder and I think I'm going to take it once a week or so but especially when I'm taking the extracts above and see what happens.I'd go slowly if you want to try this. Watch your body. I probably have other medical issues that cased me to have these reactions.

I have read some many great studies that indicate ornithine is a wonderful HGH enhancer and clears out ammonia. I believe it in some ways, when I take it during the day, I get a slight increase in energy. However, taking it at night gives me a slight increase in energy, therefore, I can't sleep!!! If you have a tendency to have paradoxical reactions to "sleeping" aids, this might be on that list for you. I will still take this because I know that the benefits are worth it, but I will only take this in the morning.
