Description:
De Cecco gently grinds the heart of each grain, mixes it with cold spring water, then kneads the dough slowly. This results in pasta with the exceptional de Cecco aroma, flavor, and consistency. Pasta easily cooks to perfection, has a great firm texture, and a delicious “fresh” pasta taste. It has a rougher surface, which helps the sauce stick to it. Since 1886 we have liked our pasta to be bronze drawn and slowly dried because we like it to fall into the plate full of taste, rough and always "al dente". Even though our taste has not changed, as we feel the same love for tradition, we have continued to improve our production technologies. Make de Cecco pasta the secret ingredient for your most amazing dishes.Buon Appetito! Penne Rigate are part of the short, diagonal cut, ridged pasta family and are one of the most well-known type of pasta, as well as being the most versatile in the kitchen. In Italian, the term "Penne" refers to the goose feather which was used historically to write with and was cut on a diagonal to achieve a really thin tip. The shape, obtained from a pasta tube, can be smooth or ridged, of varying length and has the typical diagonal cut of a quill. Penne are one of the few types of pasta for which there is an exact date when it was created. Indeed, in 1865, a pasta-maker from San Martino d'Albaro (Genoa), Giovanni Battista Capurro, requested and obtained a patent for a diagonal cutting machine. The patent was important because it meant the fresh pasta could be cut like a quill without crushing it and in different lengths from 3 to 5 centimetres (mezze "half" penne or penne). The document preserved in the Central Archive of the State of Rome reads: "Up until now, a diagonal cut could only be made by hand with a pair of scissors which, in addition to being slow and time-consuming, also resulted in an irregular cut which flattened the pasta". Penne Rigate are perfect for preparing oven-baked pasta or pasta dishes served with meat sauces made from pork or beef. This pasta is equally as good with vegetable based sauces and more in general, due to its versatility, for any recipe from the Mediterranean tradition, such as the classic condiment with tomato, basil, extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkling of parmesan. A classic combination is with Arrabbiata sauce. Available in 16.0 oz and 5 lb.

The pasta holds its shape beautifully after cooking and has a nice, firm texture that's perfect for salads, casseroles, and creamy sauces. I appreciate that it cooks evenly without sticking together. The packaging was secure, and there were no broken pieces inside, which is sometimes an issue with other brands. One minor downside is that it takes slightly longer to cook than the instructions suggest for al dente, but it’s worth the wait. Overall, a reliable pantry staple I'll keep buying!
5.0 out of 5 stars top notch
De Cecco has a well-deserved reputation for quality pasta, and their Penne Rigate is no exception. From the moment you start cooking it, you can tell the difference. The pasta holds its shape beautifully and cooks up to a perfect al dente texture – it's firm with a satisfying bite. The ridges (rigate) are excellent for grabbing onto sauces, ensuring every bite is flavorful. Whether I'm making a hearty meat ragu, a creamy pesto, or a simple tomato sauce, this penne holds up wonderfully and coats evenly. While it might be a bit pricier than some other brands, the quality is worth it. The 16-oz package is a standard size and perfect for a family meal. If you appreciate pasta with superior texture and the ability to hold sauce well, De Cecco Penne Rigate is a fantastic choice. It elevates any pasta dish!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality bow-tie pasta for quick and tasty meals
I bought this bow-tie pasta on a whim, and it turned out to be a great choice. The texture is perfect—it holds its shape well after cooking and doesn’t get mushy. It pairs beautifully with creamy sauces or light veggie sautés. The packaging is sturdy and resealable, which is a nice touch for storage. My only minor complaint is that the cooking time was a bit longer than stated on the package. Still, the flavor and quality more than made up for it. I’ll definitely keep this pasta stocked in my pantry!
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality product

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect bow-tie pasta for every meal!
This bow-tie pasta is a delight to cook with! It holds its shape beautifully, even after boiling, and the texture is perfect—firm yet tender. The unique shape makes it ideal for catching sauces, whether creamy or tomato-based. I’ve used it for pasta salads and warm dishes, and it always impresses. The packaging is sturdy and ensures the pasta stays fresh. On the downside, it takes a few minutes longer to cook than some other brands, and the price is slightly higher. Still, the quality makes it worth it for anyone who enjoys pasta dishes that look and taste amazing!
5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good Pasta
Orrichette is my favorite pasta for soup. The name means little hats and the hollows hold the broth and De Cecco makes a very good pasta. It does not get soggy or fall apart after a day in the soup. My soups do not last much longer. I love soup so I make very good ones. As always, Bolo is much less costly than the stores. Sometimes I feel guilty that I am not supporting local business, but who can afford that anymore?
5.0 out of 5 stars Great value
I was looking for a good large type of rigatoni. This was it. Good price and wuality
