5.0 out of 5 stars Rosemary Clooney at Her Best - Super Enjoyable
Glad we bought this album (CD). Soft, sultry, strong, clever, has depth - all those wonderful attributes connected with the "I get it" jazz music crowd of this era. It's Rosemary at her best, with sound quality/orchestration that meets modern standards with perhaps a couple of nostalgic exceptions - and that's no reflection on Clooney. I was skeptical when I saw the price, but super delighted when I played/listened. The CD contains a long list of songs, and there are two or three songs/arrangements that are not my favorite, but even then Clooney is good and I just listen through it till the next number. Clooney is shines in the more intricate, somtimes syncopated jazz rhythms. Her voice is strong, dynamics are interpretive and effective, and she pronounces words clearly, so the listener can enjoy the message along with the melody.
5.0 out of 5 stars WAHH!
I will say that I am very biased when it comes to Rosemary Clooney. Rosie is one of my top favorite vocalists. And this collection gets me all giddy. Benny Goodman collaborations like "Hey Baby" and "Memories of You"?! C'mon. There are other great songs like "Come Rain or Come Shine" which many know as being popularized by Ms. Garland. Lastly, Rosie's vocals are ridiculous, soooooo super jazzy, I can't even explain. She really is divine on here, allowing her mysterious, sensual side shine. But she still has the girl next door personality hint throughout.
4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it!
Good to hear Rosie doing some old standards - very well! Benny Goodman joins in - sings too!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great cross-section of Ms. Clooney's well picked tunes from her early career yrs
A Great mix of early (American pop. songbook style) Jazzy songs sung by a rather underrated, classic American singer of her era (early 50s thru mid 90s). She had a smooth, feminine, style, and was brave enough and had enough smart helpers/mentors to choose lots of cutting edge, poppy songs that reached the same audience as did Dean Martin, Sinatra, Ella Fitzerald (& numerous other black female singers), Nat King Cole, etc. This is a nice cross-section of her vocal work & song choices over at least a 15-20 yr period of her earlier career. A must have.singer2
5.0 out of 5 stars Must addition to your music collection
Quality of sound is superb. Rosemary Clooney's voice is even better. Good addition to any collection of fine music.
3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted more upbeat music
It wasn't quite what I was looking for as the tempo of the songs were slower then i wanted. She has such a fantastic voice that I still enjoyed the album and will continue looking for another album by her that fits what I am searching for.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice compilation of Clooney's 50's jazz recordings
Quite a few of Clooney's early jazz recordings in one place. This CD provides convincing evidence that Clooney sung jazz in addition to other types of music, if there was any doubt. The songs are from at least seven other previous "albums". Vintage Clooney!! It is very enjoyable to hear the Clooney style in a jazz setting. This CD also shows that early on her talents were way beyond the pop tunes she sang in the fifties. One can compare her renditions of "Sophisticated Lady" in 1956 and 1977 (Concord Jazz Heritage Series, 1998) and see the influence of additional life experience. I feel her rendition of "I'll be Around" in 1951 is pretty amazing for someone in their twenties.
5.0 out of 5 stars Older recordings that sound great
These recordings were made in '55, '56 and '57 with name big bands and they sound great, almost like they'd been made yesterday. There's no Mitch Miller songbook here and Rosemary's voice is strong and sure --- no sign of the wavering of later years. To date, this is easily my favorite Rosemary Clooney recording.

Not Jazz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, change the title of the CD. Only three numbers here could be called jazz....if one stretches the point. There is more blues, but some very regular ballads dominate. But Rosie is Rosie, and she sounds good in these early recordings, though why they included numbers in which the chorus dominates and poor Rosie sounds just like a soloist for a few lines before the chorus is back again. The album is fine at this price, but not a penny more. To get early Clooney, this is a reasonable way. But it doesn't stand up to anything else out there by Rosemary Clooney. In a sense, buyer beware. And if Michael Feinstein put this together, shame on him for not knowing jazz from other musical forms.
