5.0 out of 5 stars One Stop Shop; Authentic Thai Iced Tea!
This brand is the real deal; tastes authentic & delicious!!! I purchased the 4-pack (cheapest, on Bolo)... I've made 3 batches already, using a recipe by Foodnetwork: Jet Tila (Thai Chef). I'm a real tough critic and this brand & recipe, are definitely worth the $ and efforts, if you're looking for an "authentic" Thai Iced Tea; one where you'd find at you're local Thai Restaurant!"Jet Tila's Recipe":(*Makes "approx." 3-12oz cup/servings IF you use Half&Half, to top off drink)-4 cups of Water; Bring to a boil on Medium-Low heat, before adding Tea...-1/2 cup of Thai Tea Mix; Steep for 5-10mins....-1 cup of Sugar; Add, directly into pot, stir until dissolved...*At the end of the "steeping" process & once sugar has dissolved, Tea is ready to be strained then, chilled before serving w/ "Half&Half" creamer. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED brand of tea & recipe! My husband (Caucasian/Native) and I (Cambodian/American), really enjoyed it; (+/-) "the amount of Sugar"; Slightly, too sweet for him but, perfect for me b/c this is how I remember it tasting, growing up in MD! I forgot to mention how good the tea smells & fills up the kitchen when cooking it; My mother-in-law "can't" stand any other smells of food, other than typical American foods (ie: hamburgers, hot dogs, cigarette smoke, and alcohol...) BUT, she awoke to the smell of "chocolate"(!?!?) cooking vs. the actual fragrance of "VANILLA", from the tea!!! Goes to show her degree & knowledge of ANY OTHER types of "good" foods in the world, besides the typical all-American cuisine; not to mention, she (and her Husband) doesn't even use "salt/pepper" in ANY of her non-existent cooking!!!???
5.0 out of 5 stars It tastes really good!
I decided to order this brand because I saw this brand used in the popular youtube thai tea videos. People on Bolo also say it tastes exactly like the tea in the thai restaurants. Then I saw reviewers saying it contained yellow 6 and causing them migraines. I did some research and found that because of the red food coloring scare in 1970, people started becoming more aware of their health to food coloring. But there is no reason to be scared of yellow 6, there has been studies saying it causes ADHD, but with mixed results. The FDA approves of yellow 6 because there is no conclusive evidence it's bad for you. Yellow 6 is in Doritos, orange sodas, and pretty much everything artificially colored yellow. If no one said anything, no one would be scared to order this because it contained yellow 6, it's just myths saying that it's bad for you. The reason people got migraines is because they were allergic to it, if you are not allergic to yellow 6 then there is no reason to be scared. It's kind of ridiculous people make those type of reviews, that's like saying you are allergic to peanuts and yet you order it and then rate the product a one star because you are allergic to it. It's not like it was a hidden fact that this contained yellow 6. If you were really concerned with food coloring, a little search would have revealed that.
5.0 out of 5 stars Review + Recipe
This is a very good deal and it tastes just as good as any restaurant! Here's the recipe I found works best. You can add more sugar if you prefer it sweeter or just use less milk.1. Boil 8 cups of water.2. Add 1.5 cups of sugar, stir until dissolved.3. Once the water is boiling again, remove heat source.4. Add 1.5 cups of Thai Tea Mix.5. Steep for 30 minutes.6. Strain and mix with 2 cups of milk.7. Enjoy!Makes a total of 8 cups (6 cups tea + 2 cups water). You can also use the leftover mix as compost!
5.0 out of 5 stars Tastes just like Thai restaurants.. just avoid using as much as they advise!
I love this tea. It tastes just like restaurants make when you add sweetened condensed milk (also easier to stir into iced tea than sugar). My only caution is that this stuff stains VERY easily. I used an iced tea maker with a bucket-style coffee filter to brew my tea and spilled a little bit on the counter while I was working and I had giant orange spots where the tea landed within a couple minutes. Also, the bag tells you to use 4 Tbsp per cup of water- that means if you are making a gallon of tea you need to add about 4 cups if you follow the bag! This didn't sound right to me, and I do tend to like my tea strong. I decided to add 1/2c. of the tea per quart of water and it still turned out pretty strong.
4.0 out of 5 stars but it smells like there are flavorings added
After trial and error I now consecutive brew this tea, reusing the tea leaves for at least 3 servings from the package directions and brewing the first brew for no more than 40 seconds, then no more than 60, and so on.The ingredient list is a bit confusing because it only says green tea (isn't it black? I tried preparing it as green once out of curiosity (cooler water temp) and it wasn't good) and food coloring, but it smells like there are flavorings added. I normally don't even buy things with food coloring, but Thai tea is a special treat anyway.I use the water bubbles method for figuring the water's temperature to 195-205 degrees F. I recommend adding a combination of condensed milk, milk and sugar, otherwise I don't quite get the right flavor or end up making it too sweet. All together they work perfect. I usually drink it hot. It's a very enjoyable tea, but I still prefer my local Thai restaurant's version since I feel a bit... clearer? after drinking it, and wish the ingredient list made sense. I may test different types of sugar or additions as I go. The leaves get really crammed together and trap lots of liquid.
3.0 out of 5 stars having no taste of Thai tea
It tastes not like a other brand that I have bought before. It has tons of yellow color in tea.
5.0 out of 5 stars after a few years in Thailand I can say this is pretty much the real deal
Have gotten this before. What can I say, after a few years in Thailand I can say this is pretty much the real deal, right down to the artificial color. Really though, this is what you will get on the street corner in bangkok in a bag, it is indeed the real thing and I think quite tastey. And a bonus in this case it was pretty darn cheap, even cheaper than the local Asian market.
