About the Brand
Thai Kitchen was founded in 1989 when Seth Jacobson made his first trip to Asia. It was during this first trip to Thailand that he fell in love with the land, the people and the cuisine. At an outdoor market in the center of a Thai village, he discovered the secret of why Thai cuisine is so astonishingly complex, rich and flavorful. The high quality of Thai cuisine was achieved by selecting and combining only the freshest ingredients without making any compromises. He noticed these authentic Thai dishes were made with an intricate combination of fresh ingredients such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, tamarind, Thai sweet basil, galangal, fish sauce and jasmine rice.
Seth realized the Thai diet (based on grains, vegetables, herbs and spices) was perfectly positioned for the American market where consumers seek new exciting flavors and foods that are healthy. Being raised in the specialty food industry, he immediately saw the potential for this exotic and flavorful cuisine. Realizing this excellent opportunity to combine his knowledge of specialty foods with his newfound passion for the cuisine of Thailand, he began to develop relationships with Thai ingredient suppliers. At the time, there were no domestic suppliers providing Thai staple items like fish sauce, coconut milk and fresh curry pastes. He wanted to create an authentic Thai product line but knew that he could not achieve the true flavors of Thai cuisine by using ingredients found domestically. Therefore, he chose to work closely with Thai farmers to create the true authentic flavors of Thailand.
In October of 1990, Thai Kitchen's first shipment, arriving at the port of Oakland, California, consisted of 8 core items representing the backbone of Thai cooking. Thai Kitchen sought to make Thai cooking easy for American consumers by providing easy to follow recipes, tantalizing descriptions and serving suggestions. Retailers and consumers embraced the product line with enthusiasm, especially with its upscale and engaging packaging.Thai restaurants were cropping up all over California and the West, where consumers were delighted to find that they could recreate the dishes they had enjoyed in their favorite restaurant at home.
Seth Jacobson's commitment to a truly authentic Thai product line and desire to share his love of Thai cuisine & culture fueled the growth of the brand as well as the need to expand the product line. Thai Kitchen, a division of Epicurean International, Inc., has come a long way from the early days when Seth Jacobson sold curry pastes and fish sauce out of the trunk of his car to a handful of Bay Area accounts. Today, Thai Kitchen has over 45 products and is sold in 50 states, and Canada. Thai Kitchen is now found on the shelves of gourmet food shops, natural food stores, green grocers, ethnic markets and grocery stores. Thai Kitchen offers everything the American consumer is seeking: taste, quality, authenticity... the best of Thailand. With offices in the United States, Europe and Thailand, future plans are to continually develop unique and delicious products bringing consumers the sights, smells and flavors of Thailand.
In 2005, Thai Kitchen opened Epicurean Kitchen - an intimate, non-for-profit, hands-on cooking school in the heart of Bangkok. Epicurean Kitchen is devoted to educating visitors about Thai cuisine and teaching them how to recreate the tastes, flavors and techniques at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Economical way to buy coconut milk
We've been enjoying Thai curry a lot lately. I buy a variety of premixed curry pastes and keep them in the refrigerator so I can make a double batch of curry when the spirit moves me. It's a quick, delicious meal I can prepare in less than an hour, even with frozen protein, which I usually keep on hand, such as chicken breasts, shrimp, pork, and fish. The Thai Kitchen Unsweetened Coconut Milk makes for an excellent main course. I like these aseptic cartons; they are more economical (and environmentally friendly, I *think*?) than cans. One carton equals (almost) two cans you commonly find in the supermarket. It should be noted (although the manufactur makes NO mention of this on the Bolo product page) that the product in cans includes guar gum, whereas the seemingly identical product in these cartons does not. Honestly I don't really think it matters. Not sure why the difference, but I've made curry many times with each version of the coconut milk, and never noticed a difference.I like the cartons because they're slightly more economical than the cans, and I like to make a double batch so we can eat one for dinner and refrigerate or freeze the other half for later. When I freeze some, I just move it back to the refrigerator a day or two before we use it and it's thawed (sometimes not 100% if it's the next day, but always if it's been 48 hours).By the way, I stopped buying Thai Kitchen curry pastes in the supermarket. Although we enjoyed them and there's nothing wrong with the taste or quality, they are quite a bit more expensive than the ones I buy here on Bolo. I recommend Mae Ploy curries in four "flavors:" yellow, Massaman, panang, and red.Yellow (our favorite): https://www.Bolo.com/gp/product/B004AOFZPW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Massaman (a close second): https://www.Bolo.com/gp/product/B004AOLH9U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Panang (also very good):https://www.Bolo.com/gp/product/B000EICJWA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Red (honestly, way too hot for our taste buds, but you can just use 1/2 or 1/4 as much to tone it down, or it can also be used as a supplement to the others; I add a little (1:10) of this to the Massaman paste to give it little more oomph and complexity):https://www.Bolo.com/gp/product/B0091UW4QS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1If you really get into this, you might want to consider buying a small container of tamarind paste, which the Mae Ploy Massaman curry paste label directions suggest. We really enjoy it! Adjust quantity to your taste. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Delicious, Sumptuous, Dairy Alternative!
I discovered Thai Kitchen Unsweetened Coconut Milk while searching for a non-dairy alternative to my favorite coffee additive: heavy cream. I like to add two tablespoons of heavy cream per cup of coffee. With Thai Kitchen Unsweetened Coconut Milk, I felt I'd achieved the same luscious creaminess by adding three tablespoons (one additional tbsp). And what amazed me most was that this product has only two ingredients: water and coconut! Just about every other coconut milk I'd tried had myriad ingredients from sugar to guar gum. So I now truly wonder what is the point of many of those other additives. I also love how it comes in cartons, as opposed to cans. I can store the cartons in a cupboard and only need to refrigerate it once I've opened a carton. This product is also a great dairy/milk substitute for making things like keto yogurt or pudding. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that for simpler uses such as coffee creamer, it gives your coffee a strong, distinctive coconut flavor whether you sweeten it or not. So, you really have to love coconut flavoring if you decide to use this! Though I still love and use heavy cream, there is nothing I recommend more highly than Thai Kitchen Unsweetened Coconut Milk as a dairy alternative.
1.0 out of 5 stars Sour tasting coconut milk product by Thai Kitchen
I normally by Embe coconut milk, but I wanted to try this one to see if it was as good as Embe so I could just buy it online. I bought the Thai Kitchen carton coconut milk and it is awful, and that is not an understatement. I shook the carton vigorously, opened it and it was watery and cottage cheesy looking, and that was after shaking the carton, so I poured the liquidy part into my food processor, then I cut open the package and found a huge clump of, I guess, coconut at the bottom of the container and put that mess into the food processor. Then spun it on purée to mix it. It turned creamy then. I then poured it into a mason jar, lidded it and refrigerated it. This morning, I shook the jar, and tasted it, yuck! It tasted like what sour milk tastes like, there was no coconut flavor whatsoever. What a disappointment and I am going to complain to Bolo for selling such a disgusting tasting product. I will also let Thai Kitchen know as well. Don’t buy this in the carton, maybe their canned product is better, but I’m not going to take a chance on that.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product at a great price
I was a little concerned at all the reviews about spoiled and separated product but decided the vast majority of customers must be happy or Bolo would discontinue the item. The shipment was perfect: unspoiled, within date, and very well packaged. Because the boxed product has no guar gum like the cans, the milk is not as thick. My curry turned out much thinner than I am used to, but I can always add a thickener. A very economical way to purchase one of my favorite staples.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR THE PRICE!
Decent Coconut Milk, But Not the BestI’ve used Thai Kitchen Unsweetened Coconut Milk for a variety of dishes, from curries to smoothies, and while it gets the job done, there are a few things to consider.Pros:✅ Widely Available – Easy to find in most grocery stores. ✅ Organic & No Preservatives – A cleaner ingredient list compared to some brands. ✅ Consistent Texture – Blends well into recipes without separating too much.Cons:❌ Thin & Watery – Not as rich or creamy as other brands. ❌ Guar Gum Added – Some people prefer coconut milk without thickeners. ❌ Slightly Bland Flavor – Doesn’t have the deep coconut taste of premium brands.Overall, it’s a solid choice for everyday cooking, but if you’re looking for authentic, rich coconut milk, there are better options out there.
