    About the Brand

Bob Moore's secret to life may just be "work hard and keep it simple." Living this philosophy, Bob literally puts his nose to the grindstone every day. Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods is an Oregon-based company that utilizes simple, old-world technology to mill hundreds of all-natural whole grain products.

Bob's Red Mill is dedicated to the manufacturing of natural foods in the natural way. In their own words: "With all the sophisticated knowledge of recent times, no machinery has yet been developed that grinds grains into flour quite as well as our flint-hard quartz millstones quarried in France and used by discriminating millers since early Roman times."

"Our well-dressed (sharpened) sets of millstones turn the highest quality wheat into a finer, better baking bread flour than all the hammer mills, steel roller mills, steel buhr mills, or pulverizers ever built! These slow turning millstones grind the bran, endosperm, and germ (containing its nutritious wheat germ oil) into flour in a cool natural way, creating a more assimilable food."

Bob's Red Mill stone grinds all common and most uncommon grains into flours and meals on its over 100-year-old mills. They mix them into an astounding array of unique cereals, pancake and waffle mixes, machine and hand-made bread mixes, quick bread mixes, gluten-free mixes, and specialty grain products.

Tastes incredible, much much better than the store-bought GF bread from Canyon Bakehouse. I'd recommend this any day of the week, I'm not going back to buying from the store - but it is a little more expensive!

I have been GF for 2 years and finally being diagnosed correctly literally saved my life. That said, I went in search of GF breads. Those frozen loaves and vacuum sealed loaves went right in the trash. I then tried BRM mixes and love most of them.I used this mix in my bread maker and had failed results. I then tried the oven method and have used this method ever since. As I never was a big bread eater before GF, sandwiches were not a crucial part of my diet but my PBJs are a craving that never went away. I am 59 yo now and not being diagnosed in the prior 10 years resulted in lactose intolerance and eventually egg problems as well. I can tolerate moderate amounts of both in recipes.OK, my review. As with most GF bread mixes, the batter climbed my hand mixer blades and was difficult to work with. My son bought me a Kitchen Aid mixer and what a difference! I follow the directions on the bag but use 3 whole eggs instead of the eggs/ egg whites combo. OK so far. I have used lactose free milk and found this works best for me. Soy milk is also ok. I use spray cooking oil in a dark pan and also use it to spray my spatula and mixing blade. No more climbing the blades and easy to clean and my bread comes out of the pan very easily. just flip over and it falls out. On a few occasions, no variations in prep, my loaf collapsed in the center. I think it may have been the temp of the milk when I added the yeast. I now heat my milk to 120 degrees and so far so good.As I do not normally eat sandwiches, I seldom use this bread for that. I do toast it or when sliced thicker, makes great garlic bread slices. The bread flavor is good. The texture is good. I slice the entire loaf and freeze them in 4 slices to a baggie. This bread rises perfectly when a longer pan is used. I also create an aluminum foil " tent" over the bread when baking for the entire time inthe oven. This makes the crust lighter in color and not as tough on the edges.I order this product utilizing the super saver option every 2 months and find it a little less expensive than even Walmart. As I also use other GF products for other breads I like, that option is sufficient. I may change my option and order more often but am testing the frozen mix and resulting bread after thawing. I put a package of the mix in the freezer and will keep for a year before baking the bread. I have not found a review of this process as yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Gluten-free bread, has some packaging issues

I use a bread maker, and this bread mix is wonderful for my daughter who has celiac. Stays nice and moist, and making one sandwich a day, will last about a week before it starts to dry out and crumble when you attempt to cut it. It tasted great, and smells better. Can't even tell it's gluten-free.My only issue with this mix is the packaging. I order this through subscribe and save, just to ensure that I always have a stockpile. The last few packages that I've received have been thoroughly messed up. One box had three of the four bags improperly sealed, so the corners were wide open. I'm not brave enough to use it anyway, so 75% of my mix was thrown away.Another box I received had two of the bags sealed without the yeast. No yeast = No bread. The main reason I'm complaining is mostly my fault. I don't check each box that I receive, when I receive it. I put it in the pantry and use it when I need it. That usually happens just soon after the return period ends. My bad.Fix the packaging issues, and this is definitely a 5 star product from me!***UPDATE***Packaging continues to get worse. Unevenly sealed bags, yeast missing, etc. Seriously thinking about changing brands, as it's getting very frustrating to continue to throw bags of mix away. Picture that's attached is a sample of the issues I'm running into. Sometimes worse. They've also removed the instructions for using a bread machine, luckily I've memorized them before they were removed. I'll share what I do, it turns out well every time.Mix together these, ensure they are at room temperature.1/4 cup vegetable oil1 tsp cider vineger1 egg, and enough egg whites to equal 3/4 cup400 ml milkAdd to bread machine first, then add mix on top. Form a small "crater" in the middle of the mix, and add the yeast. Use the preprogrammed gluten free setting, and there you go!

Having been mostly gluten free for a few years now, what we missed most was good bread. Gluten free quick breads are easy enough and can be tasty, but for sandwiches and toast not so much. Our local markets have a variety of gluten free breads, but we haven't liked most of them. For one thing, they usually have lots of seeds that make life difficult for denture wearers. This mix by Bob's Mill is easy to prepare, tastes fantastic, and slices about as thin as you want to slice it. Grilled cheese sandwiches made from this bread are divine. You know the bread is fresh when you pulled it from the oven yourself. I slice the bread the day after making it and freeze it in two slice packages. Then when I want to make a sandwich I microwave the slices between two plates for about 30 seconds to thaw it. The crusts are easy enough to eat but still have a crusty texture. This bread is a game changer for us. Fair warning though - not for vegans - the recipe requires 3 egg whites and 1 whole egg. Also, it won't suit you if you don't like butter. The sorghum flour gives it a sweetness no sugar could duplicate.

I tried and failed to make GF bread from scratch and tried this thankfully because it works so much better. Much less of a mess also. Makes very tasty gluten-free bread in about 2hrs. The wife is extremely satisfied. It makes the kitchen smell like McDonalds french fries for better or worse. Works well with sandwiches, french toast, etc. Cuts well in thin or thick slices. You won't be disappointed. Store-bought GF bread loafs are just too expensive and small.
