This is a great feeder, after some slight tweaking! Our only available location for the feeder was in direct sunlight in the afternoon hours, so the inverted-bottle style feeder just doesn't work for us (it leaks as the sun heats up the nectar). So we finally switched to this dish-feeder, and the difference was immediately noticeable. No more leaking, no more wasps sniffing around, and less frequent refilling!Some reviews complained about this unit, that the weight of the liquid causes it to tilt to one side.... but that is a misinterpretation of what is actually going on. It has to do with the exact position of the hanger, and is easily fixed. Since the hook has a gentle 3/4" curve (approximately), you can slide the hook back and forth to change the exact point that it hangs from, and it is surprisingly sensitive. So we tried two things to fool-proof the hanging process: first, we bent the hook just slightly so that the sweet-spot for hanging is in the dead-center of the curve of the hook. But we still found that you could vary the position a bit too much after refilling the feeder, and being slightly off-center will cause it to tilt slightly. So, we manually found the sweet-spot again, marked it with a marker, and used a small file to notch a groove in the hook, so it's easy to rehang the feeder over the sweet-spot every time. I know... you shouldn't have to do this yourself. I would suggest to the manufacturer to add a notch to the hook, and (at least) include instructions for bending the rod/hook to center the notch for perfect balance. But anyway, once this adjustment is made, this really is the perfect feeder.The other complaint in reviews was that the decorative flowers aren't yellow, so hummingbirds don't find them as easily. This was absolutely not a problem for us! We decided to hang the new feeder near the old one for a few days, so the hummingbirds would 'find' it, and transition smoothly. But literally seconds after hanging the feeder and taking a few steps away, I heard a hummingbird zip around the corner of the house. I stopped in my tracks, and ever-so-slowly turned around. Sure enough, a ruby-throated hummingbird was hovering at the new feeder. He took a moment to examine it, then proceeded to make himself at home!I was worried whether the NectarGuard thingies (an optional sleeve that attaches to the underside of the feed ports) would prevent the hummingbirds from initially learning how to feed at this new feeder. Since the feed ports are actually a bit large, some small insects could potentially get inside (without the NectarGuards, that is), and ants would have no problem at all! We don't have ant problems, but we have lots of wasps, so we wanted to make use of the NectarGuards. Since the feeder comes with 12 of them (and only four feed ports), we decided to cut a small hole at the tips of the first set of four NectarGuards (you'll understand when you see them for yourself). The hummingbirds seemed to have no trouble at all. We haven't yet switched to any unmodified NectarGuards.On a separate note: if you have ant problems at any feeder, smear a thick dose of petroleum jelly on the hanger. Larger ants will continue to get to the nectar for a few days, but after that they will stop (maybe it kills them after a few days!? I don't know). This worked great on my mom's feeder... she used to have extreme ant issues!

After being disappointed with the complete and utter lack of any bird activity whatsoever with my Perky-Pet 363 Birds and Berries Lantern Feeder, I had low hopes for the Hummzinger's ability to likewise attract any hummingbirds. To my surprise, today I found a female Anna's hanging out on branches on the trees on either side of the feeder and, a few minutes later, caught her perched on the Hummzinger and dipping her beak into it. So it does work! See my picture to see her sitting at it :DAs regards the other stuff, the Hummzinger is pretty much as foolproof as they come. It consists of three basic parts, the trough/bowl area, the lid, and the handle. The bottom trough holds 12 ounces of fluid (btw, the enclosed instructions tell you the appropriate mixture in case you aren't already aware) along its outer section. The inner center (think of them as separated like a donut) is separated by a thin plastic wall that holds water as an ant guard (more on that). The top, red part snaps onto the trough to hold it secure and, in this model, has four "flowers" and perches all around the outer edges. The Hummzinger also comes with nectar guards; for lack of a better word they are essentially little plastic nipples with holes in the center that fit on the underside of the flowers so that hummingbirds can still feed, but insects cannot. Finally, the handle has a hook on the top and can be screwed in and out of the center of the trough. Because this is a potential conduit for ants, the ant guard ensures that any ant that crawls down the handle has to go through the ant guard first to get to the outer rim where the "nectar" is...and subsequently drowns.The Hummzinger is super easy to put together and take apart, and is very easy to clean. Even when it is full of liquid it is not very heavy, so it can easily be hung from small tree branches as I have done in my yard. The instruction manual tells you how to put it together, where to place it, how to clean it, how to make nectar, etc. It is as foolproof as they come, and if you want to attract any nearby hummingbirds to your yard, look no further.Note: the instructions that come with the feeder tell you to mix one cup of sugar to four cups of water. Unless you want to store all of that in your fridge, that's way too much. This feeder has a capacity for 12 fluid oz. I typically brew up a mixture of 1/4 cup of sugar to one cup of water, which comes out to 8 fluid oz. by the time it's cool. Keep that in mind when you go to cook up your nectar solution.

A great hummer feeder that keeps the hummers happy and the bees out! Easy and quick to clean with soapy water and a little brush or pipe cleaner. I have had this for several years and it gets used about 10 months of the year, from May to mid October in Canada and I take it south with me to Palm Springs to use from mid November to April. It has not cracked or faded from all the use. Highly recommend this feeder!

I have been buying hummingbird feeders for years. Some are very hard to clean, some have small parts that fall off and get lost in the grass, and other leak more food than the birds get to drink. All of which are the royal pain in the ass to fill and keep maintained. So over my lifetime I have spent on small fortune on different feeders.I bought one Hummzinger about ten years ago. I still have it today and it is in use every year. It is the best feeder ever made so when I saw them on Bolo at a reasonable price and free shipping I purchased two more to replace my other "crappy" feeders.I now have four Hummzinger and I will be sending my old feeders to the Waste Bin.I will never be using any other brand or model of feeder than this one.They are the best. Easy to fill, can wash and fill them in a few minutes. No small parts to clean or get lost. No leaking at all. A Very well made, good quality product. I know without a doubt that the four will out live me and I will never have to buy a feeder again. Unless of course the hummer population increases in my yard. I'm guessing that I now have more that a dozen hummingbirds coming to my feeders.The best feeder ever made....Oh and did I forget to mention that the hummingbirds love them too. ๐๐๐๐๐

Great product, but the only downside is that it has to be filled almost to the top for the birds to get any nectar... so I always have to waste old nectar when I want to refill, and half-way through the hummer's beaks are not long enough to reach the nectar that's still in the feeder.

I could not wait to put this out, made the sugar and water that is for the feeder, and in just 1 - 2 hours later had a couple come over to feed. I like that this has a ant hole trap in the middle, so no ants can get to the sugar water. I have one now, but if I see that more are coming to feed, I will have to get another one. No mess on the floor, easy to clean, comes with a small brush to clean out the tiny hole.
Birdies are humming along...
After one summer I can report that the hummingbirds love it. They like to perch on the rail while drinking. No bugs or anything else gets into the reservoir. No mess; the liquid stays in the feeder.. Very easy to bring inside to wash with soapy water and refill. The brass hanger is sturdy and hasn't rusted and is secured well into the body of the feeder. I'm continuing to feed the birds during a cold winter after having moved the feeder under the eaves.
