5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice pen worth the price
Long ago, my lovely dog, in a fit of loneliness, ate my MontBlanc fountain pen. Not having the cash to buy another, this pen was my choice. Not cheap but it writes very well, cleanly, and feels good in the hand.
5.0 out of 5 stars EF Nibs Write Like a Medium
Love the pen, it is beautiful, extremely well made and I'm glad I purchased. Writing with it is as smooth as glass. However, what everyone says is correct--Pelikan Fountain Pens write thick and I hate it. I am a XF user and really love a very sharp, thin line. I ordered the XF nib knowing this but was hoping it wasn't as thick as everyone said it was. I'll have the nib worked on when I get the opportunity, until then its just a nice thing to look at.
5.0 out of 5 stars Aside from prestige and class, it writes beautifully!
This is a classic design, very much like its main competitor, for the hearts of fountain pen users the world over. However, it's not as pretentious or obvious as the Montblanc. They both write smoothly and are made well. In my opinion the Pelikan Souveran, especially the black with green stripes, succeeds as an aesthetic object, while the MB is nothing other than big and clunky. Captains of Industry showoff their MB; creators and scholars write with their Pelikan.
5.0 out of 5 stars Pelikan Fountain Pen M200 Black
This Pelikan fountain pen has a broad nib.I’m familiar with Pelikan for many years now quality and am happy with this pen.I have a Pelikan fine nib pen in marble and I’ve had it for quite a few years now and I’m still very happy with it.I’m sure this broad nib pen will be a great addition to my pens.I use these pens more to draw with than write, but either way, they’re a pleasure to use.
4.0 out of 5 stars Pelikan M600: Not too big, not too small, just right for everyday use
One of the best fountain pens ever made. Heck, all the Pelikan Souveran fountain pens are great and it just depends on the style/size that you want that makes a particular model best for you. I had the M1000 which is HUGE but sold that online because I didn't get much use from it. I also have the M800 which is over-sized as well, just not as big as the M1000 and that one was one of my favorite pens. But again, it was so large I hardly found it all that practical. Then the M600. This pen is the perfect size for throwing into a shirt pocket, writing for long periods of time, and for holding roughly the same amount of ink as its big brothers. The nib is soft and beautiful. It writes wet and feels like it glides on paper. The piston filling mechanism works like a charm - just dip the nib and part of the section into the inkwell and twist the knob at the end of the pen to fill it with ink. While I make this pen sound like a 5-star pen, there is one thing that actually holds it back from getting all 5 stars. That's that these pens write rather broadly. If you're used to gel pens, then even the EXTRA fine of a Pelikan might lay down a thicker/broader line than a 0.7mm Pilot G2. A fine point will write closer to a broad point gel pen. For some people this may be desired, but I find this to be impractical a lot of the times because some paper I write on may not be that fountain pen-friendly and because it causes the pen to empty faster. This is not just Pelikan's problem, but many other Western brands (mainly German I found) seem to make their fine points write like mediums, their mediums like broads and their extra fines like fines.Other than that one issue (which might not be an issue for most people), this pen is perfect in nearly every way. You can't go wrong with a Pelikan fountain pen. My daily writer till recently was a Pelikan M215. Pelikans are so reliable, so pleasant, so stylish. I'd highly recommend it. And don't just take it from me. There's even a picture of Einstein with a Pelikan in his jacket pocket ;), so you're buying a pen from the same brand the smartest man in the world thought was a good purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best fountain pen
The ink reservoir is large and easy to fill, the nib writes smoothly, the ink flow is excellent (unlike some of my other fancier more expensive swiss black rounded end pens--they won't let me name names). Don't waste your money on cheap fountain pens, a M tip Pelican is all you need. I have Broad nib too and it is nice to use with thick stationary or for notary signatures. I use with Noodlers polar blue or Harbin dark inks. If you want to use light inks, get broader nib pen.
2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing When You Meet a Celebrity
This is a pen I heard about growing up in a fountain pen household. It was held in the same esteem as the Montblanc LeGrand for God's sake! I was excited to finally get one, but I guess it is true when they say you shouldn't meet your heroes. Pelikan's medium nibs are closer to a "fatter" fine. The nib is rather dry and I seem to be getting weird line variation. The pen is super light and honestly feels cheap. I don't think this is a knock-off, but their QC or 'recipe' must have changed. However, it is a gorgeous pen and the fact that its a piston filler means huge ink capacity. I'll change my review if I can fix the nib, but for the price it should have come writing ready.
Writes smoothly
It would have been nice to have a range of nib sizes that can be changed. Other colors to choose from would have been nice.
Overall, a good pen to write with
It is a pleasure to write with this pen. The ink always flows well, never slips or scratches. the nib does not need any kind of break-in.I did not expect the pen to be so small, but it is less noticeable after a while and is comfortable to hold.I like the way the cap stays firmly on the pen.I was disappinted that one could not use cartridges with this pen, but my experience with the ink filler on the pen is that it works very well and hold a fair bit of ink.
