I was getting EVAP error codes on my '03 Matrix, and I thought it might be related to the gas cap (a common cause of such codes), as my original gas cap o-ring had numerous cracks in it. But after trying this new cap for a while it didn't fix my code issues. I reinstalled the original cap for diagnostic purposes.Eventually I found the leaks in the evap system using a smoke machine. With the leaks repaired - it fixed the error codes. So even though the original cap still works ok, I reinstalled this cap to test it out - and it works, no error codes after over a week of driving. Given the very modest price of this cap, and especially that it functions well with my car's evap system - I think it's very easy to recommend this cap.

Fixed P0456 Code on my 2009 Prius!Note: If you have a 2009, check the gas cap to make sure it is the screw on type. 2005-2008 and some 2009 have a non screw gas cap.This cap fits well, and solved the P0456 (Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) small leak detected) code.This cap does not have the retaining strap, but you can simply set the gas cap in the clip of the gas access cover.V

This cap fits perfectly on my vehicle, just like the original part, and provides a secure seal to prevent fuel spill . Materials feel like they’ll hold up over time. The design is straightforward, and it’s very easy to install. no tools or hassle required.One thing to note is that while it works well for standard use, it doesn’t feel as robust as some more expensive options. It gets the job done, but it lacks a bit of the premium feel you might get from an OEM replacement. But for the price point, it performs as advertised.

I had P0441 & P0455 error code on my Lexus ES350 that would not go away even after replacing the gas cap with new OEM cap. I thought something else was wrong in the EVAP system but it turned out what was advertised as OEM gas cap that cost me $25 was leaking when smoke test was done. So I replaced it with this $5 generic cap and it fixed the problem right away. I am glad I tried this one. Otherwise, I could have replaced other expensive parts in EVAP system to find the problem. If this fits for your car, there is no need to buy expensive OEM cap. This is as good or even better than OEM.

Had an evap code so I changed the purge valve and hoses and got this in case it was the OEM gas cap. Seemed solid good construction, but within 1 fill-up started getting the code again and the car's other alert system said "gas cap not on". When I switched back to the old cap-thank god I kept it- both check engine code and gas cap alert went away. Not sure it closes tight enough despite the "click". Turns out original cap was fine and this one wasn't
Good Honda Gas Cap Replacement
The gas cap started failing on our Honda CRV. Tried soaking the cap to soften/restore the seal which worked on another vehicle but not this time. Engine light kept going on and iff as well. Started at Honda dealership but at $75 plus tax was just too expensive. Know Gates products to be good so decided this more affordable route. Arrived quickly and is a good quality oroduct restoring the pressure seal. Light did go off for a while. Interestingly in further research did find out we had neglected to change our in cabin and engine filters after getting the vehicle (which we always do) and going thru a summer of fires in our area didn’t help. They were really dirty and unfortunately the vehicle manual doesn’t but should tell you to check your filters with the engine light issue. Bad filters also affect gas consumption as does a poor condition gas cap as affects pressure in the tank. Anyways stopped at an Autozone on a trip, who has the machine to test and get the Code for the engine issue, and came up with the CO2 sensor failure which is an easy replace so that’s next to address. Assume this happened with the overly dirty filters so check your filters as well when your engine light comes on. Good to have a good functioning gas cap at a reasonable price.
