Length of blanket and width are just right. wrapped all blanket around tank. Only cut made was for pressure relief valve. taped down as suggested. it installed great on my whirlpool tank. could use more tape to seal down , in my opinion . Has to help in long run for energy savings, cant hurt. cost is reasonable. would buy again in future if needed to replace tank in future. Highly recommend.

This blanket is the same as the one I installed 30 years ago. Couldn’t find it locally. The vinyl covering is the best. The vinyl tape is very sticky, but ran out at the end, so used HVAC foil tape for the long seam.I had little clearance on one side, so I ran strips of foil tape on one end to compress the fiberglass and make a sharp edge. Used duct tape to make a top and bottom pull. With help, I pulled the blanket through the narrow gap to completely wrap the tank. Used the strip I cut off the end to wrap the pipes and the foil edge made that easy.

As you can see there isn't a lot of space between the heater and the sheet metal shed containing it. It was difficult to wrap around the heater because one side of the insulation is not wrapped in plastic which would have made it much simpler. You do need to wear long sleeves and a face mask to avoid getting scratched or breathing in fibers. I purchased it because it was the least expensive so you get what you pay for. I think it will do the job but haven't received my first gas bill yet. The directions say to clean the heater before installation or the tape won't stick. You really only need to make sure the top is clean as the tape along the sides will be sticking to the outside of the insulation, as seen in the photos.

After waiting and waiting for this to arrive it did. It is packaged well in a heavy duty box, and in a plastic wrapper. It is folded and refolded and rolled. very little by way of instruction is included. I would advise you to watch a U-tube video on how to install one of these. This does NOT come with any kind of tape and you have to have tape to put it on your water heater, so be sure you have some good duct tape.The insulation seems pretty squished when you open it up and it is just covered with plastic sheeting on one side, so be prepared for the inevitable contact with the stuff.First clean off the top of your water heater, you need to be able to stick duct tape to it to hold the insulation on. When you unroll this be advised that the length of it goes around the water heater and the shorter section will cover top down to the controls. Have two people doing this to make it easier. Use disposable gloves, wear long sleeves and pants and it possible a mask. The insulation is horribly itchy. Unwrap the blanket, insulation side against your water heater and pull it around the back side and towards the front. DO NOT cover the vents or controls at the bottom. DO NOT cover the top of a gas water heater. Cut a slit from the top of the blanket down to allow you to slide it under the drain coming from the top and side. Use strips of tape about 6 inches long to connect the sides of the blanket to each other as you pull it snug. Cut out the area the controls are in so they are not covered. Don't worry that the blanket doesn't go below these controls, all the water is above them and below is just the heating apparatus and vents to allow it to breathe properly. Use the tape to make the blanket fit snugly along the slit at the side and use several pieces of tape to secure it along the top edge. Dispose of all excess pieces and wrappers and gloves/mask etc. Wash your clothes and take a shower immediately.Even though this blanket is pretty scruffy looking when you take it out of the package, being squished and folded etc. I think it will do a pretty good job in helping insulate the hot water and give you better results. It may seem expensive for what you get, and you could just buy a roll of insulation and wrap it around and tape it on, but that may be hard if your water heater is tucked in a tight spot like many are. Plus taping all the edges together would be tedious. This does at least provide a seamless blanket and really was fairly easy to put on.

So far, installation was simple. I have a 40gal nominal size tank. Blanket was huge so had to cut some off (as the instructions said I would). Just put it on, so all is well for now. Water heater looks comfy and warm.

When I read in the description that this would fit up to a 60 gallon heater, I figured the dimensions were accurate without double checking. Our wh is 5' (60") tall and nearly 6' circumference. I just assumed since it would fit a 60 gallon heater, the 48" dimension would cover the circumference of ours. What kind of 60 gallon water heater only stands 4' tall??? Frost King is a good brand and these are good insulating covers, but whoever wrote the ad for this needs to lose the 'up to 60 gallon' description. Seems there are a lot of buyers who had the same problem. This one's going back.

Hint: the tape is folded up on the inside of the blanket.Hint 2: the blanket is a rectangle, depending on your water heater height and weight you may have to rotate the blanket to fit all the way around.Hint 3: watch the Frost King YouTube video on how to install, On a gas water heater you do not want to cover the burner area or the flue.Hint 4: It is recommended to write your water heater info on the outside since you are coving it upIt is much easier if you have an extra set of hands to help you install this. And it is proven to help retain heat. and save money on your energy bill, so take your time and make sure it is done right.

Over priced plastic wrap
This is just a cut off piece of plastic outer lined cover with inner fibre wool - not even a blanket just a sheet. For the price I paid its totally over priced and useless - the tape isn't even tape that is supplied which it came with, just same sort of plastic tape for what reason its used for who knows well it does show usage on the pictures but its not tape to secure in anyway. I could of bought this for a third of the cost at my local hardware if I knew this is all it was. Its just installation ceiling wool. Total RIP!!!. Oh and I bought 2 as well ......
Perfect but itchy
It fits my 60 gallon tank perfectly. It insulation is fiberglass, exposed on the inside and plastic sheeting on the outside. Wear gloves and a mask when you install it. I followed the instructions step by step. I installed it myself in about 20 minutes.
Basic but all you need and good R rating.
You will need your own tools, protection, and tuck tape to complete this installation but in the end, this is all you need. Ensure to wear glasses, glove, mask as this is open fiber glass on one side and although you can mostly manipulate from the vinyl side, it is safer. If doing a gas tank, like ours, ensure to keep the flame and control clear, the over flow valve and do not block your blower inlet on the top.Before opening ensure to tear the bag on a clear spot, as the instruction and details are on it. Installation is roll it around, tape the top a bit to help hold it. Clear the important bit, in our case our take is high so we could just stop before the flame mechanism. We setup the joint near the overflow so we could leave that clear and take under the tube. Installation was a couple of minutes even though in our case the space is tight.
