(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } It's so frustrating to see this album be rated 3, 2 or even 1 stars, and it's specially bad because I'm sure a lot of people out there decide whether to give something a try based on its average ratings.I'm sure there's hundreds and hundreds of other morons who can't get over the fact that this album's not constantly as fast/relentless/chaotic and sort of one-dimensional as Calculating Infinity (which I honestly find somewhat redundant), but then again, who cares about them?I remember putting on Miss Machine, and while I more than enjoyed the intricate fretwork and mindblowingly technical drumming, I always thought to myself that it'd be amazing if they ever delved a bit more into the eerie, groove-oriented sounds ala Phone Home. This album is a wish come true. It's a mixture of both the extreme metal urgency expected from the band, and electronic sampling that ranges from dominating to beautifully subtle, often on one same track. From the start, skinsman Gil Sharone makes sure to clear any possible doubt that he's not up to the task with both Fix Your Face and Lurch, and he continues to prove himself throughout the whole album (other drum stand-outs being Nong Eye Gong, 82588, Party Smasher and Horse Hunter).Though not all tracks are as traditionally 'brutal', he never stops flaunting his amazing sense of groove and rhythm, which leads most songs; and in this aspect he's much more skilled than Chris Pennie. It's almost impossible to listen to the entire CD without doing some air drumming at one point or another.Liam Wilson's bass lines are also more noticeable and relevant this time around.Kind of a vague review, I know, but i honestly don't have the patience to sit here and write about every single track individually. However, there's one song I couldn't possibly NOT single out. Sick on Sunday is surprisingly my absolute favorite. It's not good in that traditional epic metal song sense. Nor is it good because it's extremely fast or has a blistering solo. Some would say that at 2 mins 10 secs in length, it's not even an actual song. But there's something in the pulsating electronic immediacy of its first half, and the verse and ambience after the first minute manage to send chills down my spine with every single listen.I don't think I'd ever been so infatuated with an album before.Oh, and to the one-star reviewers.. you bother me so much I honestly hope bad things happen to you. Really. The end.
5.0 out of 5 stars I had no idea what to expect...
I am no good at writing reviews. I'll start with that. Anyway I had no idea what this album would be like. Never listened to DEP before and just kinda picked it up on a whim based on the fact that they are "mathcore" on wikipedia. I got something so much better. This to me is amazing Technical/Experimental Rock/hardcore/metal (whatever). I love the album starts off quickly with Fix Your Face and Lurch then slows down into Black Bubblegum and Sick on Sunday (old school fans apparently hate that? heh, too bad). The pacing is pretty much amazing like that all the way through...hardcore into awesome industrial-esque? into another hardcore song.On first listen I was like "wtf everything is so short with these weird parts in between the songs". Second listen "this is sweet". Third listen, no thoughts, just rockin out.I can't speak to old school DEP fans...I can't speak to fans of whatever genre this is supposed to be in. But if you are like me that you like hard stuff and like it when an album changes pace on you and keeps you on your toes while still delivering some amazing technical guitar work and awesome screams (yes with, god forbid, SINGING mixed in as well), then I would most definitely check this out. I can foresee this being in my car's cd changer for quite a while.
5.0 out of 5 stars It's Dillinger!
Usually regarded as the least best Dillinger album, but I think this one is great. Ire Works is a very moody affair but it's Dillinger through and through!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly diverse and experimental DEP
DEP takes the MISS MACHINE template and pushes it hard in an experimental direction with IRE WORKS. There is proportionally less mathcore pummeling and more Mike Patton/FNM-style noir pop. In addition, there are altogether novel electronic elements. The overall effect is fantastic, a brilliant *album* that adds up to more than the sum of its parts. The band made it clear it was not going back to its mathcore roots to please the purist fan base. As far as I know, the band has continued to grow in popularity, so this artistic direction has proved viable in that sense, while a hit single has not yet materialized...One review of this album claimed that DEP had become the new FNM, with Patton-esque vocals and a wildly and fearlessly eclectic and adventurous style (my adjectives). Of course that's not exactly right, but it's an interesting point, particularly since none of Mike Patton's recent projects or albums have been nearly as good as The Dillinger Escape Plan with Greg Puciato!
5.0 out of 5 stars This Is A Badass Album
This is a badass The Dillinger Escape Plan album. My favorite songs from this album are "Black Bubblegum", "Sick on A Sunday", and "Milk Lizard". This album is definitely worth checking out. Buy it, listen to it, and enjoy it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy and delicous
After buying BTBAM's Colors, I was telling a friend of a friend about how I really like it and he expressed his disgust for them saying they were too Mathy, like Dillinger Escape Plan. After I told him I had never listened to them, he quickly responded with "Yeah... DON'T." I'm glad I didn't listen to him, because this CD is AWESOME! Some of the songs are a bit crazy, and take a few listens to get used to, but alot of them are straight up amazing. My only real gripe with this CD is that the tracks are often quite short, and the CD as a whole is short too. Although compared to Colors, alot of CDs are.
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it so much I bought it twice.
I love their music. I had the cd, but I either lost it or it was stolen, so I bought it a second time. The perfect balance of sound and silence.

(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } In case you didn't get the memo, the Dillinger Escape Plan are freakin' AWESOME. 1999's Calculating Infinity is one of the most influential hardcore/metal albums of all time, and while it may still be the last word in ultra-complex aural punishment, their subsequent recorded output has ensured they've kept the bar suitably high. 2004's Miss Machine is still a personal favourite, despite the fact that in many people's eyes it lacked the sheer, uncompromising brutality of its predecessor. Nevertheless, it marked a step forward in the evolution of the band - not least because it was their first release with new frontman Greg Puciato - and was followed by a download-only EP featuring 3 covers and 2 re-recorded tracks from Miss Machine. However, following the departure of drummer and founder member Chris Pennie, the emergence of a new DEP full-length appeared to be in doubt until autumn last year...And so to Ire Works. Well, if you haven't heard it already, there is one track in particular on this album that sums up exactly where Dillinger are at right now. That track is called 'Black Bubblegum' - a stunning, impossibly catchy pop/metal number that features the muscle-bound Puciato snarling like a constipated pitbull one moment and crooning, Justin Timberlake-style, the next. As one reviewer has already noted, this isn't the DEP that fans of Calculating Infinity will know and love, but to disown a band for being this inventive, this ballsy and this capable of side-stepping any silly labelling (spazz-core? What does that actually MEAN?!) would be just plain stupid. Make no mistake: Ire Works is a masterpiece of creativity, the band unafraid of virtually any undertaking (as the aforementioned Black Bubblegum illustrates) and - what's more - pulling it off with style and panache. So, whether they're tipping their hat to My Chemical Romance on 'Milk Lizard' or working in passages of restrained, sonic creepiness, you're guaranteed of a surprising, enthralling listen throughout. That's not to say they don't go full tilt on Ire Works in the old, traditional DEP style (see opener 'Fix Your Face', 'Lurch' and 'Party Smasher') but what marks this album out as something special is the fact that the band can deliver a damn good tune along with the requisite technical wizardry - a simple pleasure, for sure, but one that far too many bands of the Dillinger Escape Plan's ilk forget about.Matt Pucci
Every question that never had an answer!

DEP qui in splendida forma.

Pink Floydの「The Dark Side of the Moon」を思わせるアートワークに興をそそられる。
