If you're a fan of red beans and rice and don't have time to make it from scratch, this is by far the best box version out there. Add some diced chicken thighs or some andouille sausage for a great meal. Maybe serve with some cornbread if you're feeling fancy.

The product itself is great; it's the beating it gets before delivery that's at issue. It looks like someone ran over it, wrapped it in shrink wrap and then played hot potato with a dozen people. The box can't stand on any side anymore.

It's fine with no added meat or veg. Add an extra quarter cup of water. (The instructions used to say to add a quarter cup more for saucier rice, but now don't. But really, it comes out best if you do.) The secret I've found to reducing the issue of it sticking to the pan is to use a thick bottomed pan, medium high to bring to a boil, then seriously low (like level 1) heat for the simmer phase. Yes, it keeps cooking just fine.I cut up polish sausage and ham and add it sometimes. I have also been known to commit the heinous act of adding cut up fresh Roma tomato to it, towards the end of cooking, for a different taste, particularly if cooking it for someone who finds it a bit salty prepared per the box instructions, because the tomato somehow balances the salt
